In the empty alley, a Zombie was desperately fleeing. Suddenly, a figure appeared at the intersection ahead, causing it to come to a screeching halt and turn around to run. However, it saw a dagger hurtling towards it at an unavoidable speed, piercing its eye and driving deep into its brain. It could only stare wide-eyed as it fell backward, and in its final moments, a woman vaguely appeared in its vision before everything faded away.
"Finally caught this speedy Zombie," Liu You'er sighed with relief, thinking to herself. "Good thing I cornered it in the alley with Liu Yue; otherwise, it would have escaped!"
She slowly bent down and forcefully pulled out the dagger embedded in the Zombie's head, splattering black blood everywhere. After dodging slightly, she took her time to put on a pair of disposable gloves from her space before using the handle of the dagger to smash a hole in the back of the Zombie's head. With delight, she retrieved a small Black Crystal from the hole. Ever since yesterday's incident at the convenience store, she had been overwhelmed by a strong desire for slaughter, making her feel quite excited about this scene while maintaining a calm facade. She thought to herself, "This isn't good; I can't be losing my sanity too! No way!"
Shaking her head to suppress this urge, she washed away the filthy blood from the Zombie with well water and swallowed it. In no time, she felt a familiar warmth coursing through her veins, expanding her meridians. Her Mental Power also surged due to the increased space, making her smile slightly.
Yesterday at the hotel, after asking Liu Yue why he attacked her, she learned that high-level Zombies possess a Virus Crystal in their brains, which is an absolute evolutionary tool for Zombies. Of course, if someone were to accidentally swallow one... they could only be congratulated for joining the beloved yet deadly family of Zombies.
Liu Yue knew this because when he was still a Common Zombie on the verge of evolving, he witnessed two first-tier Zombies fighting each other and wondered why they attacked their own kind. It wasn't until one killed the other and extracted its brain Crystal that he realized there was something more delicious than human flesh! But in the next moment, the victorious Zombie noticed him; this Zombie had six eyes that all fixated directly on Liu Yue, leaving him—this Zombie who had just regained some sense—too frightened to escape. Fortunately, that Zombie deemed him just a worthless Common Zombie and calmly swallowed the Crystal before leaving.
After Liu Yue broke through to first-tier status, he discovered he had gained the Ability to control his kind. Thus began his hunt for other Zombies. Unfortunately, Common Zombies had nothing in their brains; he could only seek out first-tier Zombies. After devouring several Crystals and nearly breaking through to second-tier status, he encountered Liu You'er...
"Master..."
"Hmm???" Liu You'er looked at Liu Yue approaching her with a threatening gaze that made him hesitate in his steps. He weakly said, "Sister!"
"Okay, go ahead," Liu You'er replied generously.
"Can I eat the next Zombie...?" Liu Yue cautiously asked through his mind.
"Do you think it's appropriate for an older sister to be weaker than her younger brother?" Liu You'er squinted at Liu Yue and asked.
Liu Yue looked at Liu You'er, swallowed the words she wanted to say, and quickly shook her head.
"That's right," Liu You'er said as she stepped over the corpse, roughly ruffling Liu Yue's hair. With a cheerful turn, she crossed over the unfortunate Zombie that had died, secretly thinking, "She wouldn't want to break their mental link just because she's too weak!" However, she was overthinking it; her mental control was different from Liu Yue's. Liu Yue's Ability was mental manipulation, which allowed her to control anyone whose Mental Power was lower than hers. In contrast, Liu You'er's ability was soul manipulation, which made others genuinely submit to her after being subdued. Even if the other person eventually reached a level ten times higher than hers, they would still listen to her. However, she couldn't manipulate across levels.
As Liu You'er walked, she felt a headache coming on. She recalled that when she checked the time yesterday, a whole month had passed since she woke up. She wanted to cry; who would have thought she spent a month in the cold storage? She had come out of the supermarket only to find it was December 6th! This made her feel quite disheartened. If only she had come out earlier... maybe she could have saved Liu Yue. Unfortunately...
Looking at Liu Yue, who was no longer downcast and wore her signature smile, Liu You'er smiled and shook her head. She thought, "Fortunately, fate has given her another chance to make amends. What's done is done; this time, she won't let him get hurt again! Moreover, if she continues eating Crystal, she believes she'll evolve to the second tier soon!" Unfortunately, she was overestimating things; imagining was beautiful, but there were two forces within her body that needed energy...
Unaware of this, she happily walked out of the Alley while silently estimating how many more Crystals she needed to level up. Before she could figure it out, a fierce-looking female Zombie suddenly jumped out in front of her and let out a menacing roar. Before their gazes could meet, the unfortunate Zombie was sent flying by a punch from Liu Yue behind her, landing five meters away on its back.
This left the Zombie bewildered. How could humans possess such strength? Looking up, it realized that there were actually two first-tier Zombies! It displayed a surprisingly human-like expression of shock and quickly prepared to crawl away.
Liu You'er was taken aback and thought, "A first-tier Zombie just delivered itself to me?!" Although surprised, she approached the Zombie only to see it scrambling away on all fours without fully getting up. In a panic, she wanted to block its path immediately. However, in the next second, she saw the Zombie running towards her with an astonished look in its eyes and unintentionally grabbed it.
Liu You'er was completely stunned: "What just happened?" Meanwhile, ten meters away, Liu Yue was also confused. She stared at the air in front of her, unable to comprehend how her master had suddenly moved ten meters away in an instant. This created an odd atmosphere at the scene until the next moment when the captured Zombie stuck out its tongue and collapsed onto the ground with a thud.
Hearing the thud sound and looking at her position, Liu You'er finally realized that she had seemingly teleported just now. She quickly sensed the power within her body and discovered that about one-fifth of her Mental Power was gone...
She actually had Teleportation ability? This made her feel overjoyed; even the female Zombie lying in front of her suddenly seemed much cuter. She found herself not wanting to eat it anymore. Just as this thought crossed her mind, the Zombie immediately got back up, dusted off its dirty clothes that were unrecognizable in color, stared blankly at Liu You'er for a moment before turning to leave. Unfortunately, it hadn't taken two steps before Liu Yue grabbed it by the collar and threw it back in front of Liu You'er.
The Zombie's strange behavior piqued Liu You'er's curiosity. A flash of inspiration crossed her mind as she thought incredulously: "Could this Zombie have been playing dead to trick me?!" To her surprise, it seemed like the Zombie heard her thoughts and immediately shook its head vigorously with wide eyes.
Well, Liu You'er had already confirmed in her heart that this Zombie was trying to deceive her. However, she saw the Zombie immediately rush over and hug her thigh, expressionless, rubbing its dirty face up and down against her. Disgusted, she kicked the Zombie to Liu Yue's side and thought suspiciously, "Is it trying to please me?!" But then she saw the Zombie crawl over again, desperately nodding its head, which finally made Liu You'er certain of her guess...
