Xiao Yi was also taken aback and timidly whispered, "This isn't mine..."
Faced with this clearly unusual situation, the two exchanged silent glances, and a shared thought instantly arose in their minds: There is definitely something wrong!
In the next moment, they quickly walked out from between the bookshelves toward the door, only to find that the library exit had already been closed.
"How is this possible... I didn't hear any announcement!" The library on the first floor would have the duty librarian check each student lingering among the shelves before closing, but she hadn't received any notification at all!
Moreover, there was a whole hour between the end of school at five and closing at six. She had just entered not long ago; time couldn't have passed that quickly, right?

"I didn't hear anything either..." Xiao Yi said fearfully as she tugged at Xiao Yao's sleeve. "What should we do now?"
Xiao Yao took a deep breath to force herself to calm down and stepped forward to try turning the doorknob: it was indeed locked. Then she knocked hard on the door, making the aluminum door panel thud loudly.
"Is anyone there? We're locked inside the library! Is anyone there? Open the door!" She shouted with all her might.
However, there was no response.
"How is this possible... There should be people studying upstairs, right? Are they all deaf?" Xiao Yao stubbornly continued to knock on the door.
The library had no soundproofing, and the noise from knocking on the aluminum door was extremely loud and piercing; it made no sense that students studying upstairs and the supervising teachers wouldn't hear it.
But no matter how she strained to listen for any signs of someone coming downstairs to check, there was no indication that anyone was coming.
"Open the door! Someone is locked inside!" Xiao Yi also shouted desperately.
Yet no matter how much they shouted until their throats were dry or knocked until their hands hurt, there was still no response.

"Huh? I remember, but..." Xiao Yi showed a troubled expression. "I don't like reading..."
"Whether you like it or not, you have to read. If you can't finish, just borrow them to read later. That person never said we had to finish them on the spot. Let's just try it!"
Xiao Yao, determined to make the best of a bad situation, urged Xiao Yi to find the books one by one.

"...Forget it, come with me." Xiao Yao abandoned her thoughts of saying something else and led Xiao Yi, who was holding a pile of books, to the empty borrowing registration desk.

"I want to borrow books!"

They were back! They had returned!

Xiao Yi quickly pulled out her student ID and handed it over. Under the librarian's suspicious gaze, she borrowed a whole stack of supernatural horror books. After completing the registration, she hurriedly pulled Xiao Yao away.
The moment they stepped out of the library door, both let out a huge sigh of relief—

Suddenly, someone gently tapped Xiao Yao on the shoulder from behind.
"...Classmate, you still have one more book to borrow."
What? One more? Aren't all the books right here?
Hearing this, Xiao Yao turned around in confusion, but froze in shock—
There stood the strange person they had mentioned, holding the very book she had initially placed upright, smiling at her...
"I told you, it's better not to touch books that are placed upside down!"
