“Shut up!”
“You're so shameless.”
“If you admire Island Swordsmanship so much, you might as well go become an Islander.”
The practitioners of Huaxia Martial Arts expressed their dissatisfaction; they were quite united when it came to outsiders.
“He's just speaking the truth.” Amidst the crowd's jeers, a cool voice rang out, calm and unhurried.
It was Yan Xiaotian who spoke.
Seeing Yan Xiaotian defend Hu Yuan, even those who were reluctant had to hold their tongues.
Hu Yuan was also somewhat surprised; he hadn’t expected Yan Xiaotian to speak up for him.
“Huaxia Swordsmanship undoubtedly surpassed that of the Island Nation a century ago, but now, with so many traditions lost, it’s no surprise that it has declined without inheritance or innovation. This is not up for debate. On the other hand, Island Swordsmanship has preserved its traditions well. Just this point alone means Huaxia Swordsmanship has already lost. If martial arts lose their inheritance, can they still be considered martial arts?” Yan Xiaotian said lightly, his voice resonating like a bell in everyone's ears, stirring their hearts.
The practitioners of Huaxia Martial Arts were left speechless; Yan Xiaotian was right. Over the past century of turmoil, Huaxia Martial Arts had lost too many traditions. In fact, many of those traditions had been preserved only because they went abroad. But there was little that could be done about it.
In turbulent times, human life was as fragile as grass, let alone the inheritance of martial arts.
“Young man, your master should be the Island Swordsmanship Master, Ishii Ansei, right?” Yan Xiaotian made the Huaxia Martial Arts practitioners speechless and then turned to Hu Yuan with a faint smile and asked.
“Do you know my master?” Hu Yuan was somewhat surprised.
“Many years ago, I went to the Island Nation and had a spar with your master; we can be considered old friends. I have some understanding of your master's swordsmanship. Just now when I saw you in action, you displayed three or four parts of your master's style; quite impressive,” Yan Xiaotian said.
Hu Yuan felt delighted; he hadn’t expected that Yan Xiaotian was actually a friend of his master.
“Senior Yan, you flatter me! If I can possess even one or two parts of my master's style, that would be enough! I dare not ask for more,” Hu Yuan replied respectfully.
“You and Mary need not fight anymore; your strengths are evenly matched, and continuing will yield no clear victor,” Yan Xiaotian stated.
Mary and Hu Yuan naturally had no objections.
“Senior Yan, I heard that your return to Huaxia is because Hongmen is entering the Huaxia market. My father is Hu Sanxiong, the Underground Leader of Zhejiang Province, and he supports Hongmen,” Hu Yuan said, making his position clear as he sought to align himself with Yan Xiaotian's influential connections.
Upon seeing his son engaging enthusiastically with someone from Hongmen, Hu Sanxiong felt great joy; he had long wanted to connect with Hongmen, and now his son was providing him with support. He hurriedly signaled for their boat to approach Yan Xiaotian’s side.
“Elder Yan, I am Hu Yuan's father, Hu Sanxiong. I have heard of your esteemed name for many years and have always wanted to meet you but never had the chance. It is truly my fortune to meet you this time,” Hu Sanxiong said eagerly upon seeing Yan Xiaotian, showering him with flattery.
The others on the boat couldn’t help but distance themselves from Hu Sanxiong; his obsequious demeanor was quite nauseating but understandable given the circumstances.
Yan Xiaotian glanced at Hu Sanxiong and smiled faintly; flattery was beneficial for anyone, and even in the Divine Realm, it was appreciated by him as well.
"You are quite perceptive. When we take control of the market in Huaxia, I can arrange for you to become the Underground Leader in East China," Yan Xiaotian praised.
Hu Sanxiong was elated and spoke again, "Thank you, Elder Yan! However, there's a young man who spoke disrespectfully of you, claiming that you are no match for him!"
At these words, Yan Xiaotian's interest was piqued. "Where is he?" he asked eagerly. He had come to Huaxia to establish his authority and put down anyone who dared to defy him.
"I think I just saw him board the Peng Family's pleasure boat," Hu Sanxiong replied.
Yue Hui, standing nearby, felt a sense of helplessness. She knew they were talking about Jiang Chen and didn't want to see him get into trouble. However, there was nothing she could do; the Hu family father and son would not heed her concerns. She tried to catch Hu Yuan's eye, but he pretended not to see her.
Yan Xiaotian's expression remained calm, neither pleased nor angry. At his level, a mere young man could hardly stir any emotions within him. "Peng Tianqi, there's a young man who disrespects me. Why haven't you brought him before me yet? I want him to submit!" Yan Xiaotian's deep gaze turned toward Peng Tianqi in the distance.
Peng Tianqi began to feel anxious. He looked at Jiang Chen and saw him calmly sipping tea, nearly losing his composure. This young man was far too composed for the situation at hand. Just moments ago, he had insisted on helping Jiang Chen with his troubles, but now he was being asked to deliver Jiang Chen to Yan Xiaotian. That seemed inappropriate.
"Peng Tianqi, I give you thirty seconds. If I don't see that arrogant young man in front of me within thirty seconds, your pleasure boat won't need to exist anymore. Whether the people on it live or die will be beyond my control," Yan Xiaotian said again.
This left no room for negotiation for Peng Tianqi; he couldn't risk the lives of everyone on board for Jiang Chen's sake.
"Jiang, my friend, I'm sorry, but you need to come with me to meet Yan Xiaotian," Peng Tianqi said as he approached Jiang Chen with a sense of resignation.
"He has no right to ask me to meet him," Jiang Chen replied nonchalantly, completely dismissing Yan Xiaotian's authority.
Seeing Jiang Chen so unfazed made Peng Tianqi momentarily believe that Jiang Chen might actually be a match for Yan Xiaotian. However, reality struck: Jiang Chen was just a young man; no matter how talented he was, he could not possibly stand against Yan Xiaotian.
"Tianqi, there's no need to waste words on this kid anymore. We have no way out now. Since he looks down on Hongmen and is so arrogant, let's show him what he's up against!" Hua Yuedao quickly interjected, fearing being dragged down by Jiang Chen.
"Yes! Tianqi, hurry up and push this kid in front of Hongmen! Hongmen will make him pay! I say he's not worth mourning!" said the legless Yan Lianwei.
"Jiang, at this point, there's no reason for you to hold out any longer. You saw Yan Xiaotian's strength; even we four from the Divine Realm are no match for him. Unless you have a powerful backing that can intimidate him, your life is in jeopardy," Peng Tianqi advised earnestly.
"Why do I need a backing to deal with him? I've already said it: he doesn't qualify to meet me. If he wants to see me, let him come over himself. Old Peng, please relay that message for me," Jiang Chen said casually.
Peng Tianqi frowned; time was running out and he couldn't afford to continue arguing with Jiang Chen.
"Jiang, since my kind advice has fallen on deaf ears, I have no choice but to offend you," Peng Tianqi said in a deep voice as he reached out to grab Jiang Chen and force him before Yan Xiaotian.
