Su Yuqing shook her head, tears blurring her vision as she slowly said, "They told me that only if I left you could you focus on your music career, have the chance to uncover the truth, and avenge your mother... I didn't want to make things difficult for you, so..."
Lu Yunting released her hand and took a few steps back, as if he had heard something unbelievable. He could not accept this reality; the woman he once loved had chosen to hide the truth to protect him, filling him with immense anger and pain.
"Who instructed you to do this?" Lu Yunting asked, forcing back his sorrow, his voice trembling.
Wiping her tears away, Su Yuqing looked at Lu Yunting with determination and said word by word, "It was... Zhao Tianyu."
Su Yuqing's words exploded in Lu Yunting's ears like a bomb, and the mention of Zhao Tianyu ignited his fury. He realized he had been kept in the dark all along; his mother's death and Yuqing's departure were all orchestrated by Zhao Tianyu! Lu Yunting clenched his fists until his knuckles turned white, his teeth grinding together as veins throbbed on his forehead. He suddenly raised his head, glaring at Su Yuqing with bloodshot eyes, his voice hoarse: "What did you say? What is going on?!"
Seeing Lu Yunting's pained expression filled Su Yuqing with guilt. She bit her lip and trembled as she recounted what happened five years ago: "Five years ago, Zhao Tianyu found me. He told me that your mother's death was not an accident but something he... orchestrated. He also said that your mother left behind crucial evidence that could incriminate him, but he had already sent someone to destroy it. Only if I left you would you not be caught up in this conflict and have the chance to develop your music career, uncover the truth, and avenge your mother..."
As Lu Yunting listened to Su Yuqing's account, his anger flared even more. He slammed his fist against a nearby container with a loud crash. The empty dock echoed with the sound of metal colliding, startling a flock of seagulls that flapped their wings and flew away.
"Why would he do this?!!" Lu Yunting growled softly, his eyes blazing red like a wounded beast.
Su Yuqing shook her head, tears streaming down her face again as she painfully closed her eyes: "I don't know... He said this was between you and him; he didn't want me involved. I was scared at the time; I didn't know what to do but chose to believe him..."
"Believe him?!!" Lu Yunting suddenly grabbed Su Yuqing's shoulders, his tone agitated. "He killed my mother! How could you believe him?!!"
Su Yuqing winced in pain but did not struggle; she simply allowed Lu Yunting to hold her, tears flowing silently down her cheeks.
Seeing Su Yuqing's suffering, Lu Yunting felt a mix of emotions. He took a deep breath, trying to suppress the anger within him, and released his grip on Su Yuqing's shoulders. He stepped back dejectedly, leaning against a shipping container and gazing up at the dark night sky. The dim yellow lights of the dock elongated his shadow, making him appear particularly tall and lonely.
After a long while, Lu Yunting spoke again, his voice hoarse: "Why did you only tell me now?"
Su Yuqing lifted her head to look at Lu Yunting's desolate figure, filled with guilt: "I... I was afraid you would hate me. I was afraid you would give up on finding the truth because of my departure..."
Lu Yunting turned around to face Su Yuqing, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes: "Do you think I would hate you?"
Su Yuqing remained silent, lowering her head and unable to meet his gaze.
"I hate myself for not protecting you well back then, for not discovering the truth sooner..." Lu Yunting walked up to Su Yuqing and gently embraced her. "Yuqing, I'm sorry for making you suffer."
Su Yuqing held onto Lu Yunting tightly, burying her head in his chest as her tears soaked his shirt. She knew that the embrace she had waited five years for had finally returned.
Lu Yunting gently patted Su Yuqing's back, his tone resolute: "Yuqing, don't worry. I will uncover the truth, avenge my mother, and give you an explanation."
"I believe in you," Su Yuqing said as she looked up at Lu Yunting, her eyes shimmering with tears yet filled with determination.
Lu Yunting nodded. He understood that they were about to face an even tougher battle. But he was unafraid because he knew he was no longer alone; Su Yuqing was by his side. Together, they would fight against the darkness and seek the truth.
"What should we do now?" Su Yuqing asked Lu Yunting, her eyes filled with concern.
"I will find Zhao Tianyu and make him pay for what he has done!" Lu Yunting said through gritted teeth, a glint of ruthlessness flashing in his eyes.
Su Yuqing shook her head. "It's useless. Zhao Tianyu's influence is vast, and without evidence, even if we find him, we can't do anything to him."
Lu Yunting fell silent. He knew Su Yuqing was right, but he was unwilling to let Zhao Tianyu go just like that.
"Unless..." Su Yuqing hesitated.
"Unless what?" Lu Yunting looked at Su Yuqing, a glimmer of hope igniting in his eyes.
"Unless we can find the evidence left by your mother."
