"How much?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked.
"One golden finger," the system replied.
Hearing this, Zhang Xiaoxiao's expression instantly darkened.
"One golden finger? You really dare to ask for that," Zhang Xiaoxiao said through gritted teeth.
"What's wrong with that?" the system responded matter-of-factly.
"You..." Zhang Xiaoxiao was at a loss for words.
"What about me?" the system said innocently.
"A golden finger is equivalent to the system points I earn for completing a task," Zhang Xiaoxiao said indignantly.
"Are you saying it's too expensive?" the system asked, puzzled.
"Yes," Zhang Xiaoxiao admitted.
"You can't say it's too expensive; this price is very reasonable," the system insisted seriously.
"Reasonable? How so?" Zhang Xiaoxiao retorted.
"Think about it, if you could understand animals talking, how much gossip would you hear?" the system tempted her.
"This..." Zhang Xiaoxiao hesitated.
"Just say it, do you want to exchange?" the system asked directly.
"I do," Zhang Xiaoxiao replied promptly.
"Then that's settled," the system said happily.
"I'll exchange it," Zhang Xiaoxiao decided.
"Great, I'll process your exchange right away," the system exclaimed.
As soon as the system finished speaking, a blue screen panel appeared in front of Zhang Xiaoxiao.
The panel had two switches for golden fingers: one was "Gossip Sense," and the other was "Beast Language Translator."
"Dog Language Translator, exchange successful, one system point deducted," the system reminded her.
"Got it," Zhang Xiaoxiao responded.
"Go ahead and try opening it," the system urged eagerly.
"Okay," Zhang Xiaoxiao replied.
After speaking, Zhang Xiaoxiao reached out and clicked the switch for the Dog Language Translator.
As soon as the switch was turned on, Zhang Xiaoxiao began to hear the sounds of dog language around her.
"Big brother, why hasn't our owner come back yet?"
"I don't know."
"I'm so hungry."
"Me too."
"Big brother, can you think of a way?"
"What can I do?"
"How about we go outside and find something to eat?"
"No way, if the owner comes back and can't find us, they'll be worried."
"But I'm really hungry."
"Just hold on a little longer."
"Alright."
Zhang Xiaoxiao was momentarily stunned upon hearing the dog language.
"How is it? Can you understand?" the system asked impatiently.
"I can," Zhang Xiaoxiao replied, regaining her composure.
"I told you this golden finger is great," the system said proudly.
"It is indeed," Zhang Xiaoxiao agreed.
"What were they just saying?" the system asked curiously.
"They were talking about how Guangcai hasn't come back yet," Zhang Xiaoxiao translated.
"I see," the system responded with understanding.
"Since Guangcai isn't home, they must be hungry," Zhang Xiaoxiao speculated.
"That's possible," the system agreed.
"I'll go out and tell them," Zhang Xiaoxiao decided.
"What are you going to say?" the system asked curiously.
"Wait for Guangcai to come back, and let them find Guangcai," Zhang Xiaoxiao replied simply.
"Do you think they will understand what you say?" the system doubted.
"Of course," Zhang Xiaoxiao affirmed.
"Then hurry up," the system urged eagerly.
Zhang Xiaoxiao walked out of the house and into the yard.
The five dogs saw Zhang Xiaoxiao and immediately grabbed her pant leg, not letting her leave.
" Da Fu Da Gui, let go," Zhang Xiaoxiao commanded.
Upon hearing her words, Da Fu Da Gui immediately released their grip.
Seeing Da Fu Da Gui let go, the other three dogs followed suit.
"Are you all hungry?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked.
The five dogs wagged their tails wildly in response.
"Guangcai has gone far away and won't be back for ten days or half a month," Zhang Xiaoxiao said.
Upon hearing this, the dogs' faces wrinkled in dismay.
"If you miss him, you can go out and find him," Zhang Xiaoxiao suggested.
The five dogs looked at her with conflicted expressions.
"Alright, go play," Zhang Xiaoxiao said.
Hearing this, the dogs obediently ran off.
Zhang Xiaoxiao watched the five dogs leave, feeling a bit sad inside.
A dog's life is short, lasting only a little over a decade, while Zhao Guangcai is an eternity for them.
Their separation is brief, but it feels long for the dogs.
"Sigh!" Zhang Xiaoxiao lamented.
"What's wrong?" the system asked with concern.
"Nothing," Zhang Xiaoxiao concealed her feelings.
"Are you unhappy?" the system guessed.
"No," Zhang Xiaoxiao replied stubbornly.
"Don't be sad; life and death are fated, and wealth and nobility are determined by heaven," the system comforted.
"I know," Zhang Xiaoxiao responded.
"I'm glad you can think that way," the system said with relief.
"I'm going to cook," Zhang Xiaoxiao said.
"You're going to cook yourself?" the system asked in surprise.
"Yes," Zhang Xiaoxiao replied.
"You can cook?" the system asked in amazement.
"Of course I can," Zhang Xiaoxiao said proudly.
"Have you cooked before?" the system asked curiously.
"No," Zhang Xiaoxiao admitted honestly.
"Then where does your confidence come from?" the system asked disdainfully.
"I..." Zhang Xiaoxiao hesitated.
"What is it?" the system questioned.
"I have no confidence," Zhang Xiaoxiao confessed.
"No confidence, yet you dare to cook?" the system exclaimed in disbelief.
"I..." Zhang Xiaoxiao hesitated again.
"What’s wrong now?" the system asked helplessly.
"Guangcai didn't leave me any leftovers," Zhang Xiaoxiao said awkwardly.
"Why didn't Zhao Guangcai leave you any leftovers?" the system asked in confusion.
"Every time he finishes cooking, he eats all the leftovers," Zhang Xiaoxiao explained simply.
"Why does he eat the leftovers?" the system asked curiously.
"He worries that leftovers will spoil by the next day," Zhang Xiaoxiao understood.
"I see," the system acknowledged.
"What should I do now?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked for help.
"You can buy a lighter," the system suggested.
"A lighter?" Zhang Xiaoxiao replied, confused.
"Yes," the system confirmed.
"I can't start a fire," Zhang Xiaoxiao admitted.
"I'll teach you," the system said cheerfully.
"You can start a fire?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked in surprise.
"Of course I can," the system replied proudly.
"If you're so capable, why don't you start a fire?" Zhang Xiaoxiao joked.
"I'm a system; I can't start a fire," the system said helplessly.
"Why not?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked, puzzled.
"Because I don't have hands," the system lamented.
"I see," Zhang Xiaoxiao understood.
"Just as long as you know," the system said, feeling down.
"How much is the lighter?" Zhang Xiaoxiao inquired.
"It's not expensive, just one system point," the system replied casually.
"You're trying to earn my system points again," Zhang Xiaoxiao said helplessly.
"I am not," the system denied.
"You are," Zhang Xiaoxiao insisted.
"I'm just giving you a suggestion; whether to buy it or not is up to you," the system argued confidently.
"You..." Zhang Xiaoxiao was at a loss for words.
"What?" the system asked innocently.
"Fine, I'll buy it, okay?" Zhang Xiaoxiao compromised.
