Zhang Xiaoxiao and Zhao Guangcai returned home from the mountain and saw Xiao Liang sitting alone outside the Wang family's courtyard from a distance.
"Xiao Liang, why are you sitting here by yourself?" Zhang Xiaoxiao walked over and asked.
"Sister Xiaoxiao, I was waiting for you to come back," Xiao Liang replied.
"Waiting for me? Why?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked, puzzled.
"I wanted to play with you," Xiao Liang said.
"Haha, Xiao Liang is so good," Zhang Xiaoxiao said happily.
"Unfortunately, you took so long to come back that I almost fell asleep," Xiao Liang said gloomily.
"I'm sorry, Xiao Liang. Auntie didn't know you were waiting for me," Zhang Xiaoxiao apologized.
"It's okay, I didn't have anything to do anyway," Xiao Liang said generously.
"Xiao Liang, are you hungry?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked.
"Not hungry," Xiao Liang shook his head.
"What do you want to play? Auntie will play with you," Zhang Xiaoxiao said.
"I want to play hopscotch," Xiao Liang exclaimed excitedly.
"Okay, Auntie will play with you," Zhang Xiaoxiao agreed readily.
"Xiaoxiao, you play with Xiao Liang first; I'll go make dinner," Zhao Guangcai said.
"Alright, you go ahead," Zhang Xiaoxiao nodded.
Then, Zhao Guangcai went to the kitchen to cook. Zhang Xiaoxiao and Xiao Liang drew squares in the courtyard, preparing to play hopscotch.
Zhao Guangcai busied himself in the kitchen, washing vegetables, chopping them, and stir-frying, moving skillfully as delicious aromas soon wafted through the kitchen. Meanwhile, Zhang Xiaoxiao and Xiao Liang were having a great time playing in the courtyard, their laughter occasionally ringing out.
"Xiao Liang, it's time to eat," Zhao Guangcai called out after finishing dinner and coming outside.
"Uncle, I'll play with Sister Xiaoxiao one more time before we eat," Xiao Liang said.
"Alright," Zhao Guangcai replied helplessly.
So, Zhao Guangcai stood by and watched the two play.
"Yay, I finally cleared the level!" Zhang Xiaoxiao exclaimed excitedly.
"Sister Xiaoxiao, you're amazing," Xiao Liang praised.
"Haha, of course," Zhang Xiaoxiao said proudly.
"Sister Xiaoxiao, let's continue playing tomorrow," Xiao Liang suggested.
"Sure, Auntie will play with you again tomorrow," Zhang Xiaoxiao agreed readily.
"Then I'll head home first," Xiao Liang said.
"Okay, bye-bye," Zhang Xiaoxiao waved her hand.
After that, Xiao Liang went home.
"Guangcai, is dinner ready?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked as she walked into the kitchen.
"It's ready, just waiting for you," Zhao Guangcai replied.
"Hehe, I got so into the game earlier that I lost track of time," Zhang Xiaoxiao admitted sheepishly.
"You and Xiao Liang seemed to have a lot of fun," Zhao Guangcai remarked teasingly.
"Yeah, Xiao Liang is really cute; I like him a lot," Zhang Xiaoxiao said without hesitation.
"Xiaoxiao, you don't want kids because you want to play with Xiao Liang, do you?" Zhao Guangcai suddenly asked.
"How could that be! Am I that kind of person?" Zhang Xiaoxiao retorted.
"I think it seems a bit like it," Zhao Guangcai said seriously.
"Zhao Guangcai, are you trying to start a fight?" Zhang Xiaoxiao snapped angrily.
"No, I was just saying it casually," Zhao Guangcai quickly backed down.
"Hmph, that's more like it," Zhang Xiaoxiao said contentedly.
"Alright, stop being angry; let's eat first," Zhao Guangcai coaxed.
"Okay." Zhang Xiaoxiao nodded.
Then, the two began to have dinner together.
"Guangcai, if I want to work at the Textile Factory, would you support me?" Zhang Xiaoxiao suddenly asked.
"Xiaoxiao, why do you suddenly want to work?" Zhao Guangcai said in surprise.
"I'm just asking casually," Zhang Xiaoxiao replied dismissively.
"Xiaoxiao, it's not that I don't want you to work; I just don't want you to be so tired," Zhao Guangcai said seriously.
"I know, but I can't just stay at home all the time, right?" Zhang Xiaoxiao said with frustration.
"Xiaoxiao, if you want to work, I'll work hard to earn money so you can have a good life," Zhao Guangcai promised.
"Guangcai, I understand your intentions, but I also want to share some of the burden with you," Zhang Xiaoxiao said.
"Xiaoxiao, I know you care about me, but I've gotten used to this kind of life, and I actually like it," Zhao Guangcai said.
"Alright, since you're so insistent, then I won't go to work," Zhang Xiaoxiao compromised.
"Xiaoxiao, thank you for understanding me," Zhao Guangcai expressed his gratitude.
"We're husband and wife; we should understand each other," Zhang Xiaoxiao smiled.
"Xiaoxiao, you're really wonderful," Zhao Guangcai said emotionally.
"Guangcai, you're wonderful too," Zhang Xiaoxiao sweetly replied.
The two exchanged smiles, and everything was understood without words.
