"I have to get my shoes because there's something in them. Even if we run out of here, we won't escape the Golden Triangle," Yingzi said firmly, leaving no room for negotiation.
Fei Hu, feeling a bit impatient, whispered angrily, "This is nonsense. We don't have time. It's pitch black, and we can't even tell east from west. Where will you find your clothes? Hurry up, or it will be too late." Fei Hu was very anxious.
"I know the way; just follow me," Yingzi said as she disengaged the safety on her gun and stepped out first.
Ye Xiaofei said nothing and quickly followed her. Fei Hu shook his head in frustration, but what could he do? He had no choice but to hold a towel in one hand and his gun in the other as he hurried after them.
Yingzi first looked up at the starry night sky, then gestured and confidently walked forward. Fei Hu shook his head skeptically; what good was looking at the sky? Although the stars were twinkling, there was no moon, and surrounded by mountains, it was just darkness all around—looking was pointless.
After turning left and right, Fei Hu felt they had passed two rows of houses when Yingzi suddenly stopped in front of a dark door. Fei Hu hurriedly approached and asked, "Is this the place? I wonder if anyone's inside."
"Don't worry; this is just a storage room," Yingzi said as she gently pushed the door open.
Fei Hu felt a surge of joy and stepped inside. He turned on his flashlight and shone it around; indeed, it was a storage room filled with piles of old clothes, worn-out shoes, and tattered blankets. Yingzi climbed inside and started rummaging through things. Suddenly she whispered, "I found it." Fei Hu was taken aback to see her holding two shoe soles. He couldn't help but curse inwardly—was all this trouble just for two soles?
As soon as they stepped out, a shadow lunged at them, making a chaotic noise. In a panic, Fei Hu pressed the towel over her mouth. The shadow raised a gun and pulled the trigger several times, but unfortunately, the safety was still on. The woman soon fell silent; the drug powder really was remarkable.
Fei Hu bent down and dragged the woman to a corner before leading the way outside. Ye Xiaofei seemed startled earlier and quickly caught up with him, instinctively grabbing the hem of his shirt.
Just as they reached the tightly shut wooden door, two women with guns suddenly appeared from somewhere, shouting incomprehensible words. There was no time to think; almost simultaneously, Fei Hu and Yingzi lunged forward like lightning. Before the two women could react, Fei Hu pressed the towel over one woman's mouth.
Yingzi was different; she locked her hands around one woman's head and twisted sharply. With a crack sound, the woman fell limp as Yingzi's target collapsed. Perhaps the effect of the towel's drug had worn off; the woman struggled fiercely and suddenly pulled the trigger, sending flames shooting from the gun barrel with a loud bang that echoed through the night sky. Fei Hu was terrified; seeing this, Yingzi swiftly struck down on the woman's neck with her palm, finally bringing her down.
In an instant, lights flooded the yard; two floodlights seemed to have eyes as they shone toward Fei Hu and the others. Yingzi raised her hand and fired several shots at them; the floodlights shattered into pieces. Unwilling to stop there, she sprayed bullets toward where the flashing lights were coming from. Amidst screams, darkness enveloped the yard once more.
Fei Hu felt regret for his kindness because it nearly led to disaster; everyone had worked hard for nothing.
"Quickly grab their guns and run outside! Are you waiting for them to send you off?" Yingzi scolded angrily while firing wildly at approaching shadows. The sounds of screams echoed as her shots found their mark without fail.
Fei Hu, as if awakening from a dream, shot down two women and called out to Ye Xiaofei before rushing toward the main entrance. At that moment, the guards around finally understood what was happening, and they all turned their guns toward the entrance. Fei Hu could only hear the whistling sounds around him.
Fortunately, Yingzi was accurate with her shooting and had combat experience; she shot at the source of the gunfire while retreating. When Fei Hu reached the entrance, he saw a large iron lock hanging on the door and thought to himself that it was over—how could they get out?
Just as Fei Hu was in a dilemma, Ye Xiaofei fired her handgun, producing a long flame that created a large hole in the wooden door. Fei Hu kicked it open, and the three of them quickly squeezed through.
Shouts and gunfire erupted behind them. Fei Hu angrily raised his hand and fired several shots in the direction of the shouting. Yingzi shouted loudly, "Run into the mountains! Don't go on the road; there might be ambushes. We need to conserve bullets!"
After saying this, Yingzi glanced at the sky and led Ye Xiaofei into the woods.
Fei Hu dared not linger and quickly followed. The three of them held hands and ran desperately through the forest. However, as they ran, they noticed that it became increasingly bright ahead.
They had reached the mountain peak, which explained why their view had opened up significantly. The three of them sat on a large rock, panting heavily. Ye Xiaofei was so exhausted that she couldn't even speak; it was truly remarkable for a pampered young lady who was used to having everything done for her to endure this.
"This place isn't safe; it's still within their controlled area. If we wait until dawn, we're all finished. We should move quickly," Yingzi said before looking up at the sky again. Fei Hu couldn't understand what she was staring at.
Yingzi led the way while Fei Hu kept close behind her with Ye Xiaofei in tow. The tropical rainforest was vastly different from the Great Forest in the north; it was densely overgrown with shrubs. In some places, it was incredibly difficult to forge a path. Fortunately, Yingzi seemed particularly experienced; she held her gun in her right hand and a stick in her left, constantly sweeping it around.
Fei Hu understood that Yingzi was scouting ahead. He had heard from others that such places were filled with venomous snakes, and at night, if one didn't use a stick to clear them away first, stepping on one would be disastrous.
"Fei Hu, you and Yingzi go ahead; I really can't walk anymore. I don't want to hold you back. If you manage to get back safely, tell my grandfather that I don't blame anyone and to live well. His retirement and final days are up to you," Ye Xiaofei suddenly stopped walking and said emotionally while holding Fei Hu's hand.
Hearing Ye Xiaofei say this made Yingzi a bit angry as she whispered fiercely, "Sister Xiaofei, stop joking around! Who do you think we're doing this for? If we don't rescue you, why did we come here?"
Fei Hu remained silent; he bent down and said sternly, "No more talking; get on my back. You've done well tonight; we've already covered more than twenty kilometers."
"Don't lie to me; I couldn't have walked that much," Ye Xiaofei asked in surprise.
Fei Hu glanced at his watch in the darkness and sighed with relief, "When we escaped, it was just past eleven o'clock, but now it's already past five. Even if we were slow, we've definitely covered over twenty kilometers."
Yingzi stepped over and pushed Ye Xiaofei onto Fei Hu's back. Feeling a bit embarrassed, Ye Xiaofei lay still on his back. With a beautiful woman on him, Fei Hu felt invigorated as he followed closely behind Yingzi and charged forward with big strides.
Yingzi was incredibly clever; she led Fei Hu along the ridge. This way, the light was bright, and the trees on the ridge were generally sparser than those below, which was beneficial for traveling.
"Stop for a moment, let me listen," Yingzi suddenly said to Fei Hu.
Fei Hu was taken aback and hurriedly stopped. In the silent forest, only unknown insects were chirping incessantly, along with the distant sound of water flowing in a stream. Suddenly, a rustling noise came from afar. Fei Hu listened carefully; it was the sound of people stepping on leaves. The noise came in waves, and based on his experience living in the forest, he estimated that there were quite a few people—at least twenty or more.
Yingzi whispered to Fei Hu, "They might have discovered our tracks; otherwise, how could they follow us so accurately? It sounds like they've reached halfway up the mountain. If we don't pick up the pace, they'll definitely catch up with us in half an hour." Just as Yingzi finished speaking, two barks from dogs echoed nearby. Although the sounds weren't loud, both Fei Hu and Yingzi heard them clearly.
"See, I knew it; they brought dogs. We need to find a way to throw off their scent," Fei Hu said with some experience.
Yingzi paused briefly before saying to Fei Hu, "You carry Sister Xiaofei and head straight along the ridge. I'll think of a way to draw them away and will catch up once I do."
"Okay, you must be careful. I'll wait for you ahead," Fei Hu replied. He adjusted Sister Xiaofei on his back and at that moment, he no longer felt like he was carrying a beautiful woman but rather a heavy stone.
In this urgent situation, Fei Hu had no time to think too much. He strode forward with Sister Xiaofei on his back. After a while of running, he felt dizzy and drenched in sweat; he was truly exhausted.
"Fei Hu, put me down; you should rest too. You'll wear yourself out like this," Sister Xiaofei struggled a bit before climbing down from Fei Hu's back. He sat down on the ground, feeling completely drained as if he had fallen apart; he had never felt this tired before.
At that moment, intense gunfire erupted not far away. The sounds were frantic; it was likely that Yingzi had engaged with them. Initially, there were barks from dogs as well, but soon those sounds ceased. Fei Hu felt a surge of joy; Yingzi was quite remarkable—had she even taken care of their dogs?
Suddenly, a dark figure rushed towards him. Fei Hu raised his gun and softly shouted, "Who goes there?"
