The display on the phone still showed "Private Number." Fei Hu pressed the speakerphone button without hesitation, and a woman's voice immediately came through the receiver: "You need to get ready quickly. Fly to Vietnam the day after tomorrow, and wait for our call once you arrive in Vietnam. Remember, you must come alone, or we will take action."
"Hmph! Don't try to scare me. If you want to take action, go ahead! I never agreed to come," Fei Hu said, his initial nervousness fading as if this matter had little to do with him.
The woman on the phone clearly did not expect Fei Hu to respond this way. She paused for a moment and tentatively asked, "You really won't come? Then don't blame us for being rude. You know better than we do that Ye Xiaofei is Ye Cheng's granddaughter. If you stand by and do nothing, do you think you can still be the boss of the Dragon Tiger Gang? Besides, this girl is almost at death's door, yet she keeps calling your name. Think about it!" The woman's tone shifted from aggressive to a more manipulative approach.
But Fei Hu seemed resolute. He slowly replied, "That's fine! If I can't continue, I can just leave the Dragon Tiger Gang. As for women? I have plenty around me. I've realized that you women are petty and timid; why should I play this meaningless game with you? It's no different from having a gun pointed at my head to make me do something."
"Bastard! How dare you talk to me like that? What do you want? How can I make you happy?" The woman on the phone shouted angrily, clearly provoked by Fei Hu's words.
Yingzi, who was beside Fei Hu, nervously nudged him with her hand. She feared that if Fei Hu's words upset the other party, they might really take action, which would only escalate the problem further and halt many things.
"The Golden Triangle—I know it's between Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand, a place full of drug lords. I don't want to go alone; I want to bring my girlfriend. Otherwise, this is off," Fei Hu stated firmly.
The woman on the phone thought for a long time before coldly saying, "Fine, but let me tell you in advance: if she is truly your girlfriend, then it won't be a big deal. However, if she turns out to be an undercover cop, we will find out her identity as soon as we meet, and the result will be sending her on her way early." After saying this, the woman impatiently hung up the phone.
Fei Hu wiped the sweat from his forehead and let out a sigh of relief. In that earlier confrontation, he had been playing a risky game with the other party. He knew that one wrong word could cost Ye Xiaofei her life. However, he felt he had no choice but to turn the tables; perhaps that would give him some initiative instead of being led around by them.
Yingzi gave Fei Hu a thumbs-up and said, "Not bad! Your ability to adapt is impressive. This way, they will fear that you might end this unfair game at any moment; they will have to make some concessions on certain issues."
Fei Hu nodded and replied, "I was just taking a gamble; I didn't expect to hit their weak spot. But it makes sense—if I have every reason not to go, then capturing Ye Xiaofei would truly be meaningless."
"No! Capturing Ye Xiaofei is just the first step; there will be new problems arising later, such as extortion and so on. Think about it, these people have no deep-seated hatred towards you or the Ye Family; it's all about money. So ultimately, this matter will still come down to money. But don't worry, as soon as we make our move, Ni Ling and the others will follow suit. Things definitely won't escalate to that point," Yingzi said, pouring a cup of tea for Fei Hu. The earlier phone confrontation had left Fei Hu feeling drained.
Fei Hu leaned back on the sofa, eyes tightly shut. What he needed now was to calm his nerves; otherwise, if the other party called again, he wouldn't know how to handle it.
Just then, the phone rang again. Fei Hu jolted as if electrocuted and glanced at his phone. It was a private call, and those words sent a shiver down his spine. What did they want?
Yingzi gently urged, "Answer it quickly! Don't raise their suspicions."
As soon as he picked up, a woman's voice came through: "Where did Ye Cheng and his little lover go? I told you to be honest and not play tricks; otherwise, I won't be polite."
Upon hearing this, Fei Hu nervously scanned the living room. This was getting a bit too scary! Did they have eyes everywhere? Was there an informant among the maids? The more he thought about it, the more terrified he became. Still, he pretended to be angry and shouted into the phone, "Aren't you going too far? Don't forget our agreement not to involve the police, but that doesn't mean everyone has no freedom of movement!"
Fei Hu's voice was loud and filled with emotion. There was a long pause on the other end before the caller chuckled, "You've got quite a temper, huh? If you're annoyed, I won't call you again. But if I find out you're being dishonest in any way, just wait for Ye Xiaofei's ashes!" The call ended abruptly.
"Yingzi, this place isn't safe; it's like someone has eyes on us. Whatever we do, they seem to know. Could there be an informant among these maids?" Fei Hu appeared paranoid; he was genuinely scared.
Yingzi patted Fei Hu's shoulder and said, "Relax; it's fine. The villa is secure; I had it checked a few days ago. It's just outside that's uncertain—too many people around makes it impossible to investigate thoroughly. We can only be cautious. You should try to get some sleep now; we'll go out tonight and return tomorrow evening."
"Where are we going? And why come back tomorrow night?" Fei Hu asked in confusion.
Yingzi moved closer and whispered, "I'm taking you to practice shooting and familiarize you with various firearms and their usage. Otherwise, if things get serious somewhere else, how will you defend yourself?" Fei Hu realized he had completely forgotten about that aspect.
The day passed unusually quickly; Fei Hu felt like he hadn't done much before night fell. After having dinner with Yingzi, they each went to their rooms, closed the curtains, turned on the lights, and then took the elevator down to the basement level. Yingzi took out some tools she had prepared earlier and opened the ventilation duct in the basement. The two of them crawled out and then reinstalled the exhaust fan from outside.
Ying led Fei Hu down a path they had never taken before, circling around to the west gate of the villa. This was at least two kilometers away from the east gate they frequently used, but for safety, they deemed it worth taking the longer route.
"Hey! Yingzi, what about the plane tickets if we don't come back during the day?" Fei Hu asked with some concern.
Yingzi leaned closer to Fei Hu and whispered, "We don't need to worry about that; someone is handling it for us. If we book the tickets tomorrow, our information might be known to them first." Hearing this, Fei Hu nodded. The rapid advancement of modern technology made her feel somewhat out of touch.
Everything went smoothly. Yingzi didn't mention anything, and Fei Hu didn't dare to ask. She brought Fei Hu to a shooting range filled with real guns and ammunition. Normally, everyone exiting would have to go through security checks, but somehow Yingzi managed to get them through without any issues. When they arrived, there wasn't a single person inside, as if it had been arranged just for them. At that moment, Fei Hu's mind was solely focused on how to rescue Ye Xiaofei and had no thoughts to spare for anything else.
Yingzi patiently explained the usage of each type of firearm to Fei Hu and even let her fire a couple of rounds with live ammunition. She was shocked at how much she struggled; despite thinking she was capable, her aim was far worse than when she used darts.
Determined not to give up, Fei Hu practiced shooting repeatedly until her arms felt sore, refusing to take a break. She recalled a line from a TV show where an instructor told soldiers in training, "Sweat more in practice, bleed less in battle." This resonated deeply with her; she understood well that the Golden Triangle was not a place anyone could venture into lightly.
In fact, Yingzi's intention was simply for Fei Hu to familiarize herself with these firearms so that if the time came when they were needed, she would know how to load a magazine and operate them. Mastering shooting skills wasn't something that could be achieved in just a day or two; otherwise, there would be no need for training at all.
After an entire night of familiarizing herself with guns and practicing shooting, by dawn, even though Fei Hu wore ear protection, she still experienced ringing in her ears that persisted and made her increasingly restless.
Yingzi initially wanted Fei Hu to take a break but seeing her high spirits made her swallow back the words she almost spoke. During this time, several staff members arrived but were sent away by Yingzi one by one. Oblivious to everything around her and focused solely on practicing shooting, Fei Hu thought this was her personal shooting range.
It wasn't until noon that a phone call from Ye Cheng interrupted Fei Hu's practice. Ye Cheng was extremely irritated; although he had told Sister Wu not to let Fei Hu go to the Golden Triangle during their trip to the suburbs yesterday, he hadn't said anything about not allowing anyone to check on Ye Xiaofei's situation. Therefore, his anger stemmed from this issue. From yesterday until now, he hadn't seen hide nor hair of either Fei Hu or Yingzi and hadn't received any calls from them either—how could he not be angry?
In the suburban villa, Brother Dong and Teapot Lid sat beside Ye Cheng with tense expressions while Sister Wu continuously comforted the furious Ye Cheng. Exhausted from their efforts, Fei Hu and Yingzi walked over. Fei Hu shook her head slightly due to the lingering ringing in her ears and sighed, "Grandpa, don’t worry; we’ve already figured out what to do." Just as she finished speaking, her phone in her pocket rang insistently again.
