The security captain turned around, ready to curse, but upon seeing that the driver was Vice President Wang Qian, he instantly deflated like a punctured balloon, standing there with his hands down in silence. Team Leader Wang let out a cold laugh and pressed the remote control. The gate slowly opened halfway, and a red Porsche rushed in, making a sharp turn to stop at the entrance of the building.
As soon as the car came to a halt, Wang Qian jumped out, the annoying sound of her high heels striking the floor echoing from near to far.
"Bah! Just because she's the Vice President, she thinks she's something special. Does she think she can run someone over just by driving? What a nuisance," the security captain spat towards the building, cursing under his breath.
Team Leader Wang couldn't help but laugh at such a ridiculous scene. "Captain! You usually have a good relationship with Vice President Wang, don’t you? Haven't you been getting along well? Why are you acting like this now?" Team Leader Wang shook his head in confusion.
"Hmph! People like her only know how to exploit others and drain my hard work. Do you know? A few days ago, she called me in for a talk and said the company is struggling. Not only are they planning massive layoffs, but they also want to cut salaries. And guess what? I'm on that list for salary cuts! It's bad enough not to get a raise; now they want to lower my pay. Can you believe it? I’m not going to work for her anymore," the security captain vented his frustrations, kicking the Iron Gate twice for good measure.
Team Leader Wang smiled lightly and said nothing. Everyone knew that the security captain and Vice President Wang Qian had always been close, colluding together to do plenty of bad deeds. It was surprising to see their relationship strained now; it seemed Sheng Wei was really in trouble.
In Ye Wei's office, smoke filled the air. Ye Wei was half-reclining in his swivel chair, feet propped up on the desk, eyes tightly shut as he took one drag after another from his cigarette, clearly very displeased.
Suddenly, the office door swung open, and Wang Qian stepped in briskly. She paused for a moment before turning around to close the door behind her. With an angry expression, Wang Qian opened the glass window and shouted, "Smoke all you want; just die from it! The company is struggling, and you still have time to lounge around here!"
Wang Qian then plopped down on Ye Wei's desk.
Ye Wei blinked his small green bean-like eyes and looked Wang Qian up and down. She wore a light green floral dress that hugged her alluring figure perfectly—especially her ample chest and curvy hips—along with two long, fair legs exposed beneath her skirt that made anyone who glanced at her feel invigorated.
Ye Wei swallowed hard and pulled his feet off the desk. Leaning forward slightly, his hefty hand reached under Wang Qian's skirt. She didn’t move at all, allowing Ye Wei's hand to roam beneath her dress.
Seeing that Wang Qian showed no reaction at all, Ye Wei withdrew his hand with a hint of disappointment. He chuckled and said, "Miss Wang, I didn't realize you cared about the company's survival. I thought after your trip you wouldn’t plan on coming back."
"Cut the nonsense; sign the layoff notice immediately. Not a single one of these old employees can stay. Once we finish replacing them, our goods from Hong Kong will arrive. With those goods, we'll have money and won't have to worry about keeping the company afloat," Wang Qian said confidently as she crossed her arms and paced back and forth in the office, clearly feeling troubled herself.
Ye Wei heard Wang Qian pressuring her to lay off employees again and said anxiously, "We can't replace everyone! For example, Miss Li from the Administration and Human Resources Department has done a lot for us, and I really appreciate her work style. It's better to keep someone like her." Ye Wei spoke to Wang Qian in a tone that sought agreement.
"No way, we definitely can't keep her. Ugh! Why are you being so nice to her? Have you slept with her? It's pathetic that you're interested in such a young woman; your taste has really hit rock bottom," Wang Qian said to Ye Wei without any hint of compassion.
Ye Wei shot a fierce glare at Wang Qian and shouted, "Just replace them all! You tell me how to do it, and I'll follow your orders. Honestly, your mind is even messier than I imagined. What kind of nonsense are you thinking about all day?" Ye Wei appeared somewhat angry, but Wang Qian ignored him completely.
The disappointments in business, coupled with continuous losses, had significantly dampened Ye Wei's enthusiasm for Shengwei Group. Now, he didn't want to deal with many matters; almost everything was handled by Wang Qian, making him feel like a puppet.
Before long, Wang Qian had Ye Wei's secretary prepare the layoff list. She personally brought it to Ye Wei, who signed his name on it. A smug smile appeared on Wang Qian's face.
Watching Wang Qian hurriedly leave, Ye Wei felt that this woman exceeded his expectations; she was shrouded in mystery.
Life had become unbearable; even going out felt impossible. Around noon, Fei Hu returned the hotel room key at the front desk. He intended to call Sun Li for a ride but suddenly felt very uncomfortable. Sun Li's attitude towards him was colder than ever. Since he left yesterday, Sun Li hadn't called him once or even asked where he had been. Was this what they called a romantic relationship—just seeking pleasure in being together?
The world of fast food was indeed fascinating. Standing at the hotel lobby entrance, Fei Hu watched one sexy girl after another walk past him, especially their long and fair legs, which captivated him. If those legs extended further up under their skirts, the view would surely be even more enchanting.
Just as Fei Hu was lost in thought about where to go next, his phone suddenly vibrated in his pocket. He pulled it out to see that Xia Yan was calling him; it seemed he finally had a destination.
"Hello! Xia Yan! How have you been lately? What made you think of calling me today?" Fei Hu asked deliberately to mask his excitement.
Xia Yan chuckled on the other end before scolding him, "You heartless person! You come back to A City and don’t even come to see me. Have you forgotten about me because of some new woman?"
"What are you talking about? I could never forget you! How did you know I was back in A City?" Fei Hu asked curiously. He hadn't seen Xia Yan or called her; something seemed off about the situation.
Xia Yan paused for a moment and said, "Yesterday, a few thugs stopped me at the entrance of my neighborhood. They asked why they hadn't seen you recently and threatened me, saying that if I had any news about you, I should tell them, and they would reward me handsomely. To hell with them; I don't care about that. However, after thinking it over, I guess you must have returned to City A."
This woman had a bit of cleverness, but she felt uneasy because her situation affected him. Fei Hu quickly said, "I'm sorry, Xia Yan. The reason I haven't come to find you is that I'm afraid some things might involve you. But my absence from your side won't affect you in any way. Just focus on your work, and we'll meet again when the opportunity arises." As he said this, Fei Hu felt quite awkward; he had originally planned to go see Xia Yan, but now it seemed impossible.
"You bastard! You don't care about me at all! I can't go to your place; can't we just meet at a hotel? City A is so big; I refuse to believe they have such power," Xia Yan scolded angrily over the phone.
Fei Hu thought for a moment and realized she was right! Why was it impossible? Booking a hotel wasn't difficult at all. After all, he wasn't short on money for a hotel stay. Feeling excited, Fei Hu shouted into the phone, "Alright, Xia Yan! You're absolutely right! I'll book a hotel right away, but when you come, don't drive your own car; it's too conspicuous. Taking a taxi is much more convenient."
"Okay! I'll wait for your call," Xia Yan said before hanging up.
Fei Hu felt incredibly excited. He rushed out of the hotel and hailed a taxi, instructing the driver to head straight to the northern suburbs. The driver was a middle-aged man who glanced at the cheerful Fei Hu and smiled, saying, "Young man, the northern suburbs are quite large; you need to give me a specific address; otherwise, I really won't know where to go."
Fei Hu thought for a moment and smiled as he asked, "Driver, are you familiar with the northern suburbs? Is there a decent hotel around? I want to book a room in advance for a friend coming from afar." As he said this, his eyes sparkled with excitement.
"Haha! Is it for your girlfriend? You look so happy! You've come to the right person; I live in the northern suburbs and know this area well. Let me give you some advice: if you're meeting your girlfriend, there's no need for anything too fancy. After all, everyone is working hard for their money. We don't need to stay at five-star hotels like Sheraton or Hilton; just a three or four-star place will do. How about Love Island? It's perfect for young couples like you—less than two hundred bucks a night and not bad conditions," the driver analyzed while driving.
Love Island didn't seem to fit their theme at all; it was just for sleeping anyway. Fei Hu chuckled and replied to the driver, "Great! Let's go to Love Island Hotel now."
The two chatted and laughed along the way, and Fei Hu didn't even notice how quickly time passed. When the car finally stopped, they had arrived at the hotel. After paying the fare and getting out of the car, Fei Hu realized that this place was quite nice—the hotel's exterior was impressive, and the surrounding environment was also good; there seemed to be parks and recreational areas nearby. It looked like the designer had put in some effort.
Checking into the room went smoothly. When Fei Hu opened the door and saw the facilities inside, he was delighted; a room costing one hundred sixty bucks was already very good. He quickly sent Xia Yan a text message. Just as he was feeling pleased with himself, there was suddenly a knock on the door that made his heart skip a beat.
