Walking at the front, Fei Hu was startled. He thought Cheng Yong had done something harmful to Tang Lan. He quickly turned around, shining the strong light from his flashlight, and exclaimed, "Oh my!" There, wrapped around Tang Lan's calf, was a Large Flowered Snake, as thick as a teacup, raising its head with its mouth wide open, ready to bite Tang Lan's thigh.
Fei Hu was terrified; if it were a venomous snake, what would they do? He raised his hand, and with a flash of white light, the snake's head fell to the ground with a thud. His skills were truly remarkable. Tang Lan trembled as she pulled the severed snake body off her leg and threw it far away. To bolster her courage, she said, "Trying to scare me, huh? This is what you get!" Behind her, Xiao Lan gave Fei Hu a thumbs up.
Xiao Lan took a couple of steps forward, picked up the Swiss Army knife from the ground, and handed it to Fei Hu with a smile. "Your skills are incredible! That throw was even better than Swallow Li San's. You must be his disciple!" she said, chuckling.
"Just a small matter; it's only a snake. Even if it were a wolf, with one strike from me, its chances of survival would be slim. I've practiced these skills since I was young, so I have some ability. But I rarely use them against people unless my life is in danger," Fei Hu replied as he started walking forward again. The group chatted and soon reached their destination—a stone cave that appeared quite clean inside; it seemed the villagers often stayed here.
"Tang Zong, how did you know there was a cave like this?" Cheng Yong asked breathlessly, trying to please Tang Lan.
Tang Lan sat down on a large rock at the cave entrance and reluctantly replied, "I've been here before. Besides, I have a mouth under my nose; I can ask!" Seeing Tang Lan's attitude towards him, Cheng Yong fell silent.
As they wandered around, when Fei Hu stood at the cave entrance and looked down, he realized they had already made their way to the mountain top. No wonder it was somewhat bright here. He could even see faint lights at the foot of the mountain; it seemed there were quite a few villagers living nearby.
Leaning against the cave wall, Fei Hu gradually fell asleep. When he opened his eyes again, he saw Tang Lan not far from him, comfortably leaning against a large rock while sleeping soundly. Inside the cave, Cheng Yong was tied up like a dumpling with his mouth stuffed full of leaves; he too had fallen asleep against the cave wall. Fei Hu stood up and stretched his slightly numb arms. He looked around but did not see Xiao Lan anywhere. Gently walking to the cave entrance, he discovered that the sun had slowly risen. The trees on the mountain appeared even more lush under its rays.
"Awake now? It seems last night really wore you out," Tang Lan suddenly said from behind Fei Hu.
Fei Hu turned around sharply to see Tang Lan yawning and rubbing her eyes while smiling at him. Such an elegant woman had come to this place; without makeup, she looked noticeably haggard. Fei Hu smiled lightly and asked, "What's up? Where did Xiao Lan go? I haven't seen her."
"She went down the mountain to get us some food and also to inform Ouyang Hua about our account so she can transfer the money over. It's also a way to gather information about this woman," Tang Lan said as she stretched her limbs with a relaxed expression; it seemed she had mostly recovered from last night's fright.
Fei Hu took a breath of fresh air. He felt that the trees here, aside from being different from those back home, had an air that seemed the same as anywhere in the world. He found his thoughts amusing. Thinking of the trees at home reminded him of Yingzi and A-Lian, as well as the lingering memory of Ye Xiaofei. He wondered how they were doing now.
Fei Hu couldn't help but take out his phone, only to find there was no signal at all. It seemed they had really ventured deep into the mountains. Just as Fei Hu was lost in thought, he suddenly heard Cheng Yong making muffled noises from the ground.
Feeling a bit angry, Fei Hu walked over and pulled away the leaves covering Cheng Yong's mouth. The guy looked grateful and hurriedly said, "Thank you, brother! Can you untie me? It hurts so much. Besides, being tied up like this is pointless; you’re so skilled with throwing knives, I wouldn’t dare run away." Cheng Yong had a pleading expression, clearly feeling humiliated.
"One should spare others when possible," was something his grandfather often taught him. Fei Hu thought for a moment and then loosened the ropes binding Cheng Yong. This simple act earned him several thanks from Cheng Yong.
As the sun began to shine directly overhead, Xiao Lan came running up the mountain path, drenched in sweat. She threw her bag to the ground and said, "I’m back! There’s food and water in the bag; you all can help yourselves. This damn weather! It was a bit cool last night when we went up the mountain, but today it’s scorching hot!" As she spoke, she waved a large leaf in her hand to fan herself.
Fei Hu hurried over, opened the bag, and took out some water and food to hand to Tang Lan. This female boss had never endured such hardships; she hadn’t slept well or eaten properly. When she received what Fei Hu offered, she let out a sigh of relief.
Fei Hu hesitated for a moment before also giving Cheng Yong a bottle of water and a piece of bread. Seeing Fei Hu treat him this way moved Cheng Yong somewhat; he choked up as he said, "Thank you. It’s all my fault for causing everyone to suffer like this."
"Xiao Lan, tell us about your call with Ouyang Lan. Did she say anything unusual?" Tang Lan asked after taking a sip of water, her expression serious. In fact, Fei Hu was also worried about this; if that woman didn’t care about Cheng Yong’s life, then their efforts would be in vain since their goal was five million, not murder.
Xiao Lan took a moment to steady her breathing before saying, "That woman was very straightforward today; she agreed immediately that the money would be transferred to our account on time this afternoon. She even said it would be sent by someone within our country. However, she talked a lot today—asking questions left and right—which wasted quite some time. I almost couldn’t hang up; it was like she had become a different person." As she spoke, Xiao Lan frowned as if searching for flaws in Ouyang Lan's words.
Cheng Yong immediately exclaimed, "I knew it! You don’t need to worry about this. Although Ouyang Lan and I aren’t married, our feelings are stronger than that of a couple. Besides, I’ve treated her well; at this critical moment, how could she not remember our past? If I survive and go back alive, how could I let her off easy? That would make me worthless as a man."
"Shut your mouth! Who told you to speak? If you keep talking nonsense, I’ll stuff your mouth with Zeng Xin!" Xiao Lan shouted at Cheng Yong irritably.
Fei Hu wasn’t foolish; his heart sank at that moment. Could it be that Ouyang Lan was stalling for time over the phone to find out Xiao Lan's exact location so she could track her? If that were true, it would be serious trouble. Just as Fei Hu was contemplating this issue, Xiao Lan suddenly stood up with an uneasy expression and said to Fei Hu, "I’m sorry! I might have made a mistake just now and fell for Ouyang Lan's trick."
Tang Lan nodded and said, "You're right, this isn't her character. It's very likely that you've been followed. It seems this place is no longer safe; we should move immediately!" Fei Hu did not expect that Tang Lan was quite adept in the business world, having her own thoughts and understanding about such matters, which was truly rare.
Just as Fei Hu was about to express his opinion, a seductive laugh from a woman suddenly echoed from the forest below the mountain. Following that, Ouyang Hua appeared in casual outdoor attire, striding confidently towards them. She laughed heartily and said, "You might as well stop trying to move; it's a waste of effort. I, Ouyang Hua, have had people waiting at the mountain pass since last night. I finally found you."
Upon hearing this, Tang Lan's expression changed dramatically, and Xiao Lan was furious. Fei Hu hurriedly stepped forward to block the cave entrance and shouted at Ouyang Hua, "Miss Ouyang, are you trying to take Cheng Yong's limbs back with you?"
"Hahaha! It doesn't matter! If you have the guts, just kill him for me. I can take his body back; it saves me trouble," Ouyang Hua shouted with a laugh.
Inside the cave, Cheng Yong became anxious upon hearing this. He rushed to the cave entrance but was stopped by Xiao Lan's hand. He urgently shouted, "Ouyang Hua, what nonsense are you talking? I told you to go back and get money; why are you here? Hurry up and leave!"
Ouyang Hua glanced at Cheng Yong and disdainfully replied, "Look at your cowardice; you're so afraid of dying. If you let them kill you, I'll kill them afterward. Isn't that revenge for you? Why be so nervous?"
"Scoundrel! Ouyang Hua, you wretch! You can actually do such things? Just wait; I will definitely kill you when I get back!" Cheng Yong shouted angrily as he found some stones in the cave and threw them at Ouyang Hua. However, they were too far away, and given Cheng Yong's strength, the stones couldn't reach Ouyang Hua at all.
Xiaoyun gave Fei Hu a look and tried to rush forward, but Fei Hu reached out to stop her. Xiaoyun asked in confusion, "Why are you stopping me? I'm going down to deal with that nasty woman!"
"Hey! Don't act impulsively; there are ambushes below. It's impossible that Ouyang Hua is alone. Someone must be backing her up; otherwise, she wouldn't dare come here," Fei Hu whispered to Xiao Lan and signaled her to sit down.
Seeing that Fei Hu and the others were unresponsive, Ouyang Hua began to provoke them verbally, slowly escalating into crude insults like a shrew. If Xiao Lan hadn't been held back by Fei Hu, she would have rushed down to tear this wicked woman's mouth apart. Tang Lan felt her face flush with anger from Ouyang Hua's nonsensical insults; she lowered her head and sat silently at the cave entrance.
After exhausting all her verbal tactics and seeing that Fei Hu and the others remained unmoved, Ouyang Hua shouted into the forest, "Huang Lao Qi, come at me! If they dare resist, silence them all!" Ouyang Hua's tone was quite bold, which shocked Fei Hu greatly.
