Time flew by while spending time with a few women, and before they knew it, evening had arrived. Xia Yan generously made the arrangements, and to Fei Hu's surprise, she brought along Aju. They drove to the well-known Royal Court Restaurant in the city.
The three of them reserved a small private room, and once they settled in, it was extremely comfortable. The Chinese cuisine here was renowned for its variety, with masters from all over the country. Therefore, when Xia Yan ordered, she chose dishes based on her personal tastes and preferences. Looking at the prices that were in the hundreds, Fei Hu only ordered two dishes for himself, feeling that it was exorbitant, wondering what made the prices so high.
Observing Fei Hu's hesitance, the attentive Xia Yan smiled and said, "Don't worry about spending money. We're here to enjoy ourselves. We work hard to earn money for moments like this—eating comfortably and feeling happy inside is what matters."
Fei Hu smiled but remained silent, thinking that having money doesn't necessarily guarantee happiness.
Aju glanced at Fei Hu and joked, "You're not being honest. Sitting here with us, I can tell your mind is elsewhere. Are you thinking about another woman? Come on, confess! I studied psychology; I can tell what you're thinking just by looking at you."
Fei Hu intentionally grinned and said, "I was thinking about New Year's Eve..." He trailed off, and seeing his expression, Aju seemed to realize something as her face slightly flushed, prompting her to fall silent. Fei Hu hadn't expected this carefree woman to have a shy side.
The dishes arrived quickly. Given the high prices, the food was indeed excellent, showcasing flavors from various regions. It was Fei Hu's first time tasting something reminiscent of his hometown after being away for so long; he felt that the money spent was worth it.
As they ate and chatted happily, it would have been perfect if Fei Hu hadn't drunk too much the night before; otherwise, he would have definitely ordered drinks tonight. It seemed Xia Yan was considering Fei Hu's health, which touched him deeply. By the time they settled the bill and headed downstairs, it was already past eleven o'clock. Fei Hu felt a bit reluctant; he wished he could stay in this atmosphere longer because he feared loneliness. Whenever he had a moment of quiet, Ye Xiaofei would immediately come to mind, which he found hard to bear.
Xia Yan went to the parking lot to get the car while Fei Hu stood by the roadside with Aju. He smiled and said, "Aju Jie, how about we go to Xia Yan's place to hang out? We can play poker together; are you in?"
Aju widened her eyes and replied jokingly, "Of course! But how will we sleep? If Xia Yan lets us three sleep on one bed, then I'm in!" She burst into laughter at her own joke. Sometimes even Fei Hu found it hard to respond to such humor.
At that moment, Xia Yan drove up with the car. Fei Hu and Aju got in as she asked Aju while driving: "Are you coming with us or heading home?"
Fei Hu chuckled and jumped in to say, "Aju said if we three sleep on one bed tonight, she'll join us." As soon as he said this, he regretted it because some jokes are better kept between two people.
Sure enough, Xia Yan shot him a disapproving look and said unhappily, "Divine Essence illness—how could you even think of that?" Fei Hu quickly lowered his head in acknowledgment that it was his comment rather than Aju's.
Inside the car, no one spoke for a moment, and the atmosphere felt a bit awkward. Fei Hu didn't expect this joke to turn out like this. However, Aju was quick to react; as the car approached an intersection, she suddenly said, "Xia Yan, let me off here! I have an old friend nearby who has called me many times, but I never had the time to visit. Tonight is just right; I’ll go see her and settle my thoughts."
"Really? I didn't know you had friends here. Why not come to my place instead? There’s plenty of room," Xia Yan replied, pulling the car over to the side of the road.
Aju chuckled and said, "Stay at your place? I want to see your performance; I’m not interested in that." With that, she opened the car door and jumped out.
"What a crazy woman! She often talks big but is actually a coward who dares not do anything," Xia Yan cursed as she turned around. Aju ignored what Xia Yan said, waved goodbye to Fei Hu, and disappeared into the night along the street.
Xia Yan paused for a moment before starting the car again and accelerating toward her home. She remained silent during the drive. Fei Hu understood that it was his joke that affected the originally cheerful atmosphere. Women could be so unpredictable; he couldn't help but feel a tightening in his chest. It seemed he needed to be more cautious in this regard in the future.
As they neared the entrance of Xia Yan's neighborhood, Fei Hu noticed something unusual. Typically, there weren't many people at the entrance of the community at this hour, but tonight it was strange—there were quite a few people gathered there, and judging by their attire, they didn’t seem like ordinary citizens; they looked more like hooligans.
Xia Yan must have sensed something was off as well; she gradually slowed down the car and turned to Fei Hu, asking, "These people look suspicious. Should we drive in?"
Fei Hu shook his head and said, "No, if it's good fortune it won't turn into misfortune; if it's misfortune, we can't avoid it. Some things are better left alone. If we rush in today, what will we do tomorrow? When we get closer to the entrance, stop the car and let me take a look."
"No way! There are too many of them. I'm worried you'll get hurt alone. If you really want to go down there, fine; if they make a move, I'll call the police from the car immediately. If you don’t agree to this plan, then forget it—we’ll just go stay at a hotel instead. I want to see how long they can wait," Xia Yan said angrily, trembling slightly.
Fei Hu patted Xia Yan on the back and softly said, "We mustn't involve the police in situations like this; we can handle it ourselves. It won't do anyone any good to alert them. Besides, these people are just local thugs; they’ll be out tomorrow if we call them today. We can't keep calling the police every day. Lock the doors and just sit tight; you can trust my skills—ordinary people can't hurt me."
Taking a deep breath, Xia Yan slowly drove past the entrance. As soon as she stopped, Fei Hu jumped out of the car. The moment he stood still, those people at the entrance of the community surrounded him with Chen Kui leading them. Fei Hu smiled and said, "Sorry to keep you waiting! Had I known you were here, we would have come back sooner."
"Cut the crap! How are we going to settle this? Are we talking about money or blood?" Chen Kui boasted with confidence due to their numbers; he looked like he was ready to take control tonight.
Fei Hu remained silent for a moment as he scanned those standing behind Chen Kui—about ten of them—all with shifty eyes that constantly roamed over Fei Hu as if he were made of gold and they were hoping to scrape some off him.
After taking a look around, Fei Hu felt a bit surprised. There was no way Chen Kui could have brought so many lackeys in such a long time! If that were the case, this guy was really overestimating himself. It seemed that he had gone easy on Chen Kui during lunch today. Fei Hu nodded and said slowly, "I don't think we have any issues between us. It's you who brought people to bully me and demand money from me. Did you even ask if I would agree? Would the government agree?"
Upon hearing this, Chen Kui's face changed dramatically. He said fiercely, "You better not call the police, or this matter will not end well."
"Hahaha! You really underestimate me! Do you think I need to call the police on you? Let me tell you today, this ends here. If you dare come here to harass Xia Yan again starting tomorrow, I will break your legs," Fei Hu said, his expression changing as he stepped forward, scaring Chen Kui back two steps. Fei Hu shook his head; someone like him dared to act recklessly.
"Chen Kui, did you bring us here just to listen to this brat's nonsense? Everyone, go up and take him down first; let's see how tough he really is!" shouted a chubby guy standing behind Chen Kui.
Hearing this, Chen Kui became energized like he had been injected with adrenaline. He shouted loudly, "Brothers, go! Take this brat down; if anything happens, I, Chen Kui, will take responsibility!" He patted his somewhat skinny chest as he spoke.
With so many people around, they completely disregarded Fei Hu and rushed at him all at once. Before they could make a move, Fei Hu struck first. He raised his right foot and kicked out like lightning. The first person in line, a young punk with yellow hair, was sent flying a couple of meters away and landed hard on the ground. Taking advantage of their momentary shock, Fei Hu turned around and executed a sweeping kick from behind; in an instant, three people were lying on the ground.
Fei Hu's sudden attack stunned those who had come to help Chen Kui. They found themselves in a stalemate, unsure whether to advance or retreat. To save face, Chen Kui somehow managed to grab a half-length iron rod and swung it toward Fei Hu. If everyone was fighting barehanded for a few rounds that would be one thing, but it was unexpected that this guy wanted to use heavy weapons.
Fei Hu would not allow that. He stepped aside swiftly and swayed left and right as Chen Kui swung the iron rod down at him. Most people would fear getting hit on the head by such an attack, but for Fei Hu, it was just what he wanted. In a flash, he moved to the left; Chen Kui's swing missed completely. Before anyone could react, Fei Hu lunged forward with his right hand up and left hand down. With a sharp scream, Chen Kui stood there as if electrocuted, dropping the iron rod which clattered away.
The situation on the scene changed instantly; those helpers hurriedly retreated. However, Fei Hu knew that unless he made Chen Kui suffer a bit more, he wouldn't let it go easily. Thinking of this, Fei Hu kicked out again and sent Chen Kui flying far away. He struggled for a while before finally managing to get back up.
Just then, suddenly from across the street came a shout: "Stop!"
Fei Hu turned around and saw four or five burly men getting out of a black sedan. His heart sank; it seemed that these newcomers were not friendly at all.
