This high-tech gadget, Fei Hu, was being used for the first time. Under Yingzi's guidance, Fei Hu took the photos and retrieved Ye Xiaofei's phone number from Yingzi's phone, sending the image via MMS.
After a while, Ye Xiaofei replied with a message asking who he was. Fei Hu realized that he had changed his number without informing anyone and had forgotten to clarify the situation in his previous message. Feeling a bit embarrassed, he replied, "I am Fei Hu. The item in the picture is what we intercepted from their container."
Ye Xiaofei responded, "When will you be back? Stay safe and call me when you have time."
Fei Hu felt a warmth in his heart and hurriedly replied, "Understood."
"Don't keep in touch too much; we can talk when you return," Yingzi said to Fei Hu with a smile, looking very determined. Fei Hu thought for a moment and nodded silently.
By noon, Yingzi had finished her IV drip. The fatigue from the night finally hit them both, and they unknowingly fell asleep. They had a good rest; partly because they had completed their task and felt a bit relaxed, and partly because they were indeed exhausted from not sleeping all night.
Fei Hu opened his eyes when his stomach began to rumble. Looking around the room, he remembered that they were at a small inn, unlike a big hotel where meals were provided. He realized he needed to figure out how to eat. Glancing at the peacefully sleeping Yingzi, he got out of bed and headed downstairs.
The Boss Lady seemed to be bored and waved at Fei Hu as he came down. When he approached, she quietly asked, "What are you two doing? That woman seems to have an injury."
Fei Hu glanced at her but initially intended to ignore her. However, since they were staying at her establishment, it wouldn't be wise to create tension. So he sighed and said, "She accidentally fell."
"Fell? It looks more like a knife wound," the Boss Lady said with a knowing look.
Fei Hu smiled and replied, "Good eye! But it's not a knife wound; she fell and scraped herself on a sharp rock. It does look a bit like a knife wound. We're explorers; this kind of thing happens all the time." He felt that this lie was convincing enough.
"Oh, I see! Impressive! Your work is indeed quite dangerous. What are you planning to do? If there's anything you don't know, feel free to ask me." The Boss Lady's attitude took a complete 180-degree turn for some unknown reason, which caught Fei Hu off guard.
Seeing that Fei Hu was silent, the Boss Lady chuckled and said, "I apologize for this morning. When I saw blood on you two, I thought you were troublemakers. I really dislike those kinds of people. If you were two men, no amount of money would make me accept you; I would still feel sorry for your girlfriend." She laughed heartily.
Now understanding the situation better, Fei Hu asked the Boss Lady, "Is there an affordable restaurant nearby that also serves good food?"
The Boss Lady thought for a moment and pointed westward. "Walk about two hundred meters ahead; there's a place called Old Zhang's Restaurant. It's pretty good. If you go now, you'll be just in time; if you wait too long, there might be a line."
Fei Hu nodded and walked over casually.
Looking at the storefront and then inside the restaurant, it was quite nice—at least clean and hygienic. As soon as the waiter saw Fei Hu, he greeted him to sit down first and immediately brought tea, then kindly asked, "Sir! What would you like to eat?"
The service here was much better than some small restaurants in City A, and Fei Hu felt very pleased. He took the menu, casually ordered a few dishes, and then said, "Double portions of each dish, one for eating now and one to take away." After saying that, he turned around to watch the television on the wall.
At this moment, there were indeed not many people in the restaurant, just about three. While Fei Hu was happily watching, he suddenly heard the waiter say, "Sister Afei, you're here so early today; you must be off work!"
"Off work? I didn't go in today; I want to rest well for two days. I'm exhausted," a familiar woman's voice came over. Fei Hu was startled; who could it be?
It sounded so familiar that Fei Hu found it a bit strange. He slowly turned around and almost fainted when he saw Xu Yanfei looking back at him. When their eyes met, Fei Hu froze, and Xu Yanfei was stunned as well. The two stared at each other for several seconds before Xu Yanfei finally shouted, "Oh! Mr. Pig! What are you doing here?"
Xu Yanfei's loud voice, combined with the mention of "Mr. Pig," drew the attention of the few people in the restaurant. Fei Hu hurriedly smiled and stood up, feeling a bit embarrassed as he said, "I heard the food here is affordable and delicious, so I came over."
His flustered explanation was somewhat out of place, but fortunately, Xu Yanfei didn't seem to mind much.
She quickly walked over and sat down next to Fei Hu in a very friendly manner. She smiled and said, "Isn't that a bit much? You came all this way; you’re not living around here now, are you?"
Fei Hu chuckled and changed the subject by asking, "Did you not go to work today?"
"Not going to work is fine; I took leave from Boss today because I want to rest for two days. There’s not much going on anyway; it’s just tiring," Xu Yanfei said this with a hint of displeasure flashing in her eyes.
The dishes Fei Hu ordered arrived quickly. He gestured for Xu Yanfei to join him, and she didn’t hold back at all—grabbing chopsticks and eating generously as if she had just woken up.
After a few bites of food, Fei Hu tentatively said, "This morning I wanted to call you at your workplace to drop by for a visit but got delayed by something. Good thing I didn’t go; you wouldn’t have been there anyway."
"Where would I go? I don’t want to go anywhere right now; really..." Xu Yanfei shook her head, hesitating to continue.
Fei Hu chuckled lightly and said, "Miss Xu, you seem a bit delicate but usually speak and act straightforwardly. What’s going on today? Why are you being so vague? If there’s something bothering you, feel free to share; maybe I can help."
Upon hearing this, Xu Yanfei's expression changed slightly. It seemed she wanted to say something but held back at the last moment. Fei Hu could tell she still had her reservations. Looking at the packed takeaway bag from the waiter, he said to Xu Yanfei, "I’ll head back now. If you're free tonight, let’s contact each other by phone."
"Okay! Sure!" Xu Yanfei looked reluctant to part ways but in broad daylight, she couldn’t possibly run over and pull Fei Hu back from leaving!
When they returned to the inn, Yingzi was already up and watching a small television. Seeing Fei Hu come back, she asked somewhat unhappily, "Did you go to City A? You could have just brought something back; do you want to starve us?"
Fei Hu smiled and arranged the food he had brought back. While watching Yingzi eat, he said, "Guess who I just ran into? You wouldn't believe it; sometimes this world is just too small."
Yingzi paused and softly said, "It can't be Little Four and Abiao, right?"
Fei Hu shook his head and replied, "No, it was Xu Yanfei. She came to eat as well."
"Ah! Why her? It seems like it's quite a distance from where she lives! Why is she eating at this time?" Yingzi looked puzzled.
"She didn't go to work. It might be related to what happened last night. I couldn't ask too much at the inn; it was clear she was holding back and speaking hesitantly," Fei Hu said with a smile, recounting the earlier encounter to Yingzi.
Yingzi thought for a moment and said, "This person seems a bit unreliable; it's best not to have any more contact with her. We're leaving here tomorrow. After you went out earlier, I got in touch with Sister Xiofei. She indicated that we can't stay here any longer; Ye Wu will definitely search frantically."
Upon hearing this, Fei Hu hurriedly turned off his phone. Yingzi laughed and asked, "What are you doing? It won't be convenient to contact anyone if something comes up."
"I think Xu Yanfei will call soon, so I might as well turn my phone off in advance to avoid trouble," Fei Hu said as he walked to the window and glanced down, as if anticipating that woman would come after them.
After Yingzi finished eating, the two sat down to discuss their plans. They figured that the airport, train station, and long-distance bus station were likely places where Little Four had sent people, so they couldn't go there anymore. The safest option was to take a taxi and get off at a nearby stop before boarding another vehicle. Once they reached a consensus, Yingzi called the driver they had hired a few days ago. The driver agreed to pick them up at ten o'clock that night.
Looking out the window at the darkening night sky, Fei Hu silently prayed, "There can't be any more mistakes tonight."
