As they moved forward, they reached the center of the courtyard, and the sound of drinking seemed to be coming from the room ahead. Fei Hu gestured to Yingzi, who immediately understood and gently pushed open the door of a room in front of her. After observing for a moment and seeing that there was no movement inside, she waved to Fei Hu, and the two of them slipped in.
The room was dark as the lights were off. Upon closing the door, a strong odor of foot odor hit them. Fei Hu paused for a moment to let his eyes adjust to the dim light inside, and then realized that this room was actually a dormitory with four bunk beds. Clothes and other items were scattered messily on the beds, indicating that someone lived here.
While Fei Hu was looking around, Yingzi tugged at him and pointed to a beam of light coming through a hole in the wall. Fei Hu immediately understood Yingzi's intention. He stepped onto a bed and climbed up to take a look at the source of the light. There was indeed a small hole, but it was difficult to see through. Just as Fei Hu was trying to figure out how to get a better view, Yingzi approached him with a half-meter-long steel bar she had found somewhere. Seeing this made Fei Hu's heart leap with joy.
With this tool in hand, Fei Hu easily enlarged the small hole that only let in a sliver of light into a larger opening through which he could clearly see into the next room, and he could also hear the conversations clearly.
Peering through the hole in the wall, Fei Hu saw clearly that in the middle of the room, two desks faced each other with seven or eight young men sitting around them, all sweating profusely as they played rock-paper-scissors. Sitting by the desk were Abiao and Xu Yanfei, their backs turned to the wall. However, from their physical features, Fei Hu quickly identified them both. He just couldn't spot Little Four; after looking for a while without success, he felt somewhat uneasy since this person was quite cunning.
The shouting inside rose and fell in waves. On the surface, Abiao and Xu Yanfei were drinking together, but in reality, one of Abiao's hands had slipped under Xu Yanfei's short skirt at her back, lifting it up to reveal most of her pale backside. The woman seemed bold enough to act as if nothing was happening.
At that moment, seven or eight young men with sweaty shoulders walked in through the door. Seeing this, Abiao quickly withdrew his hand from Xu Yanfei's backside and shouted loudly, "You guys go out and let them come in for drinks; it's time to switch shifts!" The few men who had just entered were reluctant but got up and walked towards the courtyard while those who had just arrived sat down.
One young man with slightly curly hair complained while pouring drinks, "Abiao, what's going on? The few guys Fourth Brother brought over aren't doing any work; they're just wandering around the courtyard. Isn't that unfair?"
Abiao chuckled and said, "Just drink! Our roles are different; their burdens are much heavier than yours." Upon hearing this, Fei Hu finally understood that Little Four was lying in ambush around the courtyard; no wonder he hadn't seen him.
Sitting next to Abiao, Xu Yanfei pulled at her skirt to cover her exposed backside before saying, "Boss, what kind of operation is this? It's so tightly packed that it requires so many people to guard it while sleeping during the day and working at night. Isn't that a bit strange?"
Hearing this, Abiao slammed his cup down on the table angrily and said somewhat unhappily, "I told you before not to ask too many questions about what's going on here. Just drink your alcohol and earn your money. Sleeping during the day and working at night is because it's too hot; what's so strange about that?"
When Xu Yanfei heard Abiao say that in public, she immediately stood up and loudly declared, "I won't drink this wine anymore!" After saying that, she turned around and walked out the door.
A few young men saw this and shouted, "Brother Biao, this woman doesn't know what's good for her. Sleep with her and show her who's boss so that when she sees you tomorrow, she'll shout 'Boss is mighty!'" They laughed loudly.
Abiao glanced outside and disdainfully said, "I wouldn't bother with a woman like that. If it weren't for being in a place like this, I wouldn't even give her the time of day." The group continued drinking, looking like they could go on until dawn.
Yingzi took out her phone and quietly said to Fei Hu, "It's twelve o'clock now. In two hours, we’ll take action. By then, I estimate they'll be too tired to stay awake."
Fei Hu thought for a moment, climbed up to the upper bunk, and unscrewed the light bulb in the room. He did this for safety; if someone came in and pressed the switch, the light wouldn’t turn on, and they wouldn’t notice them right away.
Yingzi also jumped up to the upper bunk, and the two sat against the wall waiting for time to pass.
Next door, the drinking continued with great enthusiasm, while outside there were occasional sounds of containers being loaded. Fei Hu couldn’t help but gently poke Yingzi, who had her eyes closed, and softly asked, "What do you think is inside those containers? Could it really be something so valuable?"
"It's not about whether it's valuable or not," Yingzi replied quietly without opening her eyes. "These things were smuggled in; they’ve pocketed part of what should have been paid to the government. Do you think they don’t have money?"
Fei Hu didn’t understand why Yingzi was doing this or what she was really thinking. He could only hope that time would pass quickly.
At midnight, everyone was bound to feel sleepy. Fei Hu dozed off while sitting. Suddenly, the door was pushed open with a loud bang. A shadow entered, groping along the wall until it pressed a switch and cursed, "Damn it, why is this light broken?" After saying that, it turned around and left without closing the door.
The noise startled Fei Hu awake. Once he realized what was happening, he noticed Yingzi had fallen asleep on his shoulder. Both were startled; Fei Hu quickly asked, "What time is it now?"
Yingzi gasped for breath as she checked her phone and said, "It's one fifty. We can't wait any longer; we need to act now or we'll end up sleeping until tomorrow morning." Upon hearing this, Fei Hu pulled down his hood and nimbly jumped off the bed.
Yingzi was not falling behind; she jumped down right after him. Fei Hu suddenly stopped and said softly, "You need to keep a certain distance from me for safety. Even if we fall into an ambush, they can only catch one of us." Yingzi nodded and excitedly punched Fei Hu on the back. Sometimes, she truly admired this man's cleverness.
As soon as they stepped outside, Fei Hu felt a slight coolness. The courtyard was very quiet, devoid of the sounds of unloading goods, and the drinking noises from next door had also stopped at some point. Pressing against the wall, Fei Hu peeked inside and was taken aback by the sight: people were sprawled everywhere, even Abiao was slumped over the table asleep.
Fei Hu suddenly remembered that day when he hid in Xu Yanfei's room and heard her mention that there was a main power switch in the fourth room. If he could find it and turn off the power, things would become much easier. He quietly counted from start to finish and vaguely saw a number 4 written in white chalk on the door not far ahead. Now, if he could safely get past this door, half of the task would be accomplished.
Although everyone inside was asleep, the door was wide open, and the light from inside illuminated the entrance brightly. One careless move could lead to discovery, which would mean all his efforts would be in vain. Time was ticking away, and Fei Hu felt anxious. Suddenly, he steeled himself; the arrow was already on the bowstring and had to be released. Fei Hu dashed forward almost crawling on the ground. As his hands hit the floor, he performed a forward roll, and when he stood up, the light was just one or two meters behind him.
Reaching the door marked with the number 4, Fei Hu pushed it open only to find a small padlock hanging on it. He couldn't help but feel a surge of joy; fortunately, he still had the half piece of rebar he had used earlier. He took it out and pried at the lock with all his might. With a soft click, the lock popped open. Pushing the door open, Fei Hu stepped inside. Goodness! The room was even darker; he felt like there were things scattered all over the floor making it impossible to move.
Fei Hu had no choice but to imitate Yingzi's actions and took out his phone for light. In the corner of the room, he spotted the main power switch. He quietly approached it and pulled it with force; instantly, darkness enveloped the courtyard.
A shadow darted like wind towards the center of the courtyard where a central box was placed. Fei Hu knew this person must be Yingzi, so he didn't rush forward; instead, he stayed in the shadows to observe what was happening. Things were probably not as simple as they thought; Ye Wu had brought so many people here—could they all just be idle?
Fei Hu held his breath and listened intently for any sounds in the courtyard, but there was complete silence. Something felt off; he couldn't afford to wait any longer. With a few leaps, he reached the center of the courtyard and rolled forward to hide under a Container.
As soon as he got in, a shadow rolled beside him. When Fei Hu focused his eyes, he saw it was Yingzi. Why was she still here?
