Fei Hu's words left Ye Xiaofei quite shocked. She knew that Sheng Wei's depths were profound, but she didn't expect them to be this deep. However, smuggling and tax evasion were certainly involved; she just wondered what other shocking secrets remained hidden.
Ye Xiaofei's phone rang again, reminding her that it was indeed getting late. She glanced at Fei Hu, who had been standing still in the darkness, and softly said, "Thank you. What you said tonight is good for both of us. Remember, this is a secret; no one else can know."
Fei Hu nodded, thinking to himself, hmph! If you hadn't asked, I wouldn't have bothered with anyone else.
After Ye Xiaofei saw Fei Hu to the entrance of the community, she wasn't sure if it was out of gratitude or if she had truly developed feelings for him. She turned her head and kissed him lightly on the cheek, which took Fei Hu by surprise. Watching the car fade into the distance, he stood under the streetlight, his excited heart unable to calm down for a long time. That kiss was so sweet and beautiful; it felt like a dream come true.
As he climbed the stairs, Fei Hu took out his keys and had just opened the door when he saw Alice in her pajamas, holding a cup of instant noodles. They had been quite busy lately, and Fei Hu hadn't seen her much since the last time he drunkenly left her room.
Alice placed the cup of noodles into the trash can by the door and smiled, "Oh! I thought I was the only busy one. How come you're back so late? You look exhausted. You haven't eaten dinner yet, have you?"
Hearing Alice's words reminded Fei Hu that he indeed hadn't eaten due to all the commotion with Ye Xiaofei. His stomach growled at that moment, but he awkwardly smiled and replied, "Why are you eating instant noodles?" In truth, having a cup of noodles would be great for him right now; his question was purely out of vanity.
"Hey! This is great! I love this flavor, and it's simple. You don't have to do anything—just crack an egg or slice some sausage. When you're done, toss it in the trash; no need to wash any bowls. For someone as lazy as me, it's perfect," Alice explained in detail, clearly an expert at eating instant noodles.
Thinking about the taste of instant noodles and hearing Alice's description made Fei Hu lick his lips. He thought how nice it would be to have a cup of noodles right now. He quickly pushed open his door and smiled at Alice, saying, "True, sometimes it's quite convenient. Goodnight!" He waved at Alice and hurriedly closed the door from inside, fearing that if they talked any longer, Alice might hear his stomach growling.
Fei Hu went to the kitchen and looked around for something to eat or drink but found only tap water. He regretted not thinking about grabbing something to eat at the entrance of the community earlier. At this hour, he really didn't want to go back out; however, his stomach was still grumbling. Sitting on the sofa, he resolved to definitely bring back a box of instant noodles as a backup.
Just then, there was a sudden knock on the door. Fei Hu felt a bit annoyed; it must be Alice again. She had finished eating and come over without realizing he was still hungry. He slowly opened the door and was greeted by a familiar aroma of instant noodles wafting in. His heart leaped with joy as he looked up to see Alice smiling brightly while holding a steaming cup of instant noodles at the door. Fei Hu stared in disbelief.
"What? Can't I come in and sit for a while?" Alice playfully pouted at him.
As soon as he saw that noodles were being delivered, Fei Hu stepped back and said, "Please! Noodles, please," looking extremely cute.
Alice walked in, casually closed the door, placed the instant noodles on the coffee table, and then unceremoniously sat down on the sofa, smiling, "Hurry up and eat! If you don't, they'll get cold and won't taste good."
Fei Hu felt delighted upon hearing this, but still shyly asked, "How did you know I hadn't eaten yet?"
"Hehe! Your energetic appearance, along with your expression when I mentioned eating instant noodles—especially the way you licked your lips—these clues are enough to prove that not only have you not eaten, but you're also quite fond of these instant noodles. Am I right?" Alice laughed joyfully.
Fei Hu nodded. He didn't care about any embarrassment anymore. When he opened the container, his mouth watered. Inside the box were not only noodles but also eggs, sausages, and several pieces of his favorite beef jerky. Oh my! In no time at all, Fei Hu devoured it with great delight; he felt this meal was even more satisfying than a feast.
Seeing him in such a messy state, Alice asked with a smile, "Is it enough? If not, I still have more at home."
"That's enough! It's really delicious. You really know how to enjoy food; you can make even instant noodles taste so special," Fei Hu said sincerely. Back when he lived in the Shanty Area, he often relied on instant noodles to fill his stomach. However, those were the cheap kind that cost only a few cents per bag—small portions with surprisingly little seasoning—so the flavor was greatly diminished. Watching how others prepared theirs with so many additional ingredients made him feel a bit embarrassed about his own situation.
After tossing aside the empty container, Fei Hu finally sat down. Alice still wore a bright smile; without heavy makeup and now in evening wear, she looked very beautiful, especially her alluring figure that made Fei Hu hesitant to look at her too much.
"What’s going on? Aren't you just a security guard? Why do you seem so busy every day that I hardly see you?" Alice threw him a flirtatious glance.
This woman was too stunning; her beauty left Fei Hu feeling flustered. Earlier, he hadn’t had time to think about anything else because he was hungry. Now that he was full, his mind began to wander. Sometimes people are just like that; as the Ancient People said, "When one is well-fed and warm, they think of lust," which seemed to hold some truth.
Fei Hu hurriedly shook his head and said, "It's just some trivial matters; there isn’t much going on at work—mostly just some things among friends that need help sorting out."
"Hehe! I didn’t expect that! You’re so enthusiastic. But why did you leave me alone in bed after I got drunk when I invited you to dinner a few days ago? Didn’t you think about what might happen?" Alice shifted the conversation to the drinking incident from two days ago. This put Fei Hu in an awkward position; if he hadn’t left that day, it would have only led to them rolling in bed together.
"What's wrong? Just because you and I aren't friends, you don't need to take care of me or help me," Alice pressed.
Fei Hu awkwardly scratched his scalp and said, "It's not like that. Everyone has been drinking, and you're so beautiful and dressed so attractively. I'm afraid if I stay, I might accidentally offend you, and that would make me feel even worse." Fei Hu thought he had explained himself well; if it weren't for someone knocking on his door, things might have escalated.
When Alice heard Fei Hu say this, she burst into laughter. "I'm beautiful and sexy? It seems that's all you've got. You let a drunken woman scare you off? What are you afraid of? We are both free adults; I don't understand your worries."
Fei Hu felt embarrassed by Alice's words, as if he had become a useless man who wanted to find a hole to hide in. He thought it was pathetic to always be so cautious; he might as well be a woman. The absurdity of his thoughts made him chuckle. He realized that Alice viewed relationships between men and women quite casually. Fei Hu couldn't understand why he kept encountering such people—first Sun Li, then Xia Yan, followed by Wang Qian, and now Alice stepping in for Sun Li.
He truly had a way with women but wasn't enjoying the benefits. Fei Hu was at a loss as to how to navigate these relationships.
Seeing that Fei Hu was left speechless by her teasing, Alice smiled lightly and said, "I was just joking with you; don't take it to heart. Actually, when the day comes for you to leave, I will still have some awareness."
Upon hearing this, Fei Hu's face flushed slightly. He clearly remembered when Alice fell onto the bed and pulled him over; her softness and her curves made him feel uneasy. To be honest, he wanted to experience that again.
Just then, Fei Hu's phone rang. Who could it be at this hour? He picked it up from the table and saw that it was Ye Xiaofei calling. Could there be something else going on? His heart sank as he answered the call.
"Hello! What are you doing? Don't tell me you're going to bed on an empty stomach! Oh! I'm really sorry; I forgot about dinner tonight. Have you eaten yet?" Ye Xiaofei's voice was low but very gentle.
Fei Hu glanced at Alice and smiled as he replied, "It's fine; I've already eaten. You should get some rest! We'll talk tomorrow."
Ye Xiaofei paused for a moment before softly saying, "Good night, see you tomorrow." Hearing her voice made Fei Hu feel intoxicated; he felt like he was in love.
