Fei Hu spent the entire day in meetings with Ye Xiaofei. By the time they returned to the company, everyone had already left for the day. Shortly after Ye Xiaofei returned to her office, Fei Hu's phone rang. Just as he changed his clothes and prepared to leave, he sensed something was wrong. He hung up the phone and rushed into the elevator. What was going on with her? Why had her emotions suddenly spiraled out of control? Normally, everyone had already clocked out, and no one had offended her.
When he pushed open the door to Ye Xiaofei's office, he was taken aback by the scene before him. Ye Xiaofei was standing with her arms crossed over her shoulders, her face pale with anger, leaning against her desk. The floor was littered with scattered documents and crumpled papers, making it look as if a theft had occurred. After gently closing the door behind him, Fei Hu asked softly, "What happened? Do you want to report it?" He pulled out his phone as he spoke.
Ye Xiaofei shook her head, her face filled with rage that seemed capable of murder. This expression was something Fei Hu had never seen before. He couldn't figure out what had happened. He walked over to her and gently said, "Xiaofei, no matter what we encounter, we must first stay calm. We can't let ourselves fall apart; that would only give others an opportunity to take advantage of us. Even if the sky were to fall, there would be someone tall enough to hold it up for us. There's no need to punish yourself like this."
Perhaps it was Fei Hu's unprecedented attitude that affected Ye Xiaofei. She suddenly lunged forward and wrapped her arms around his neck, tears streaming down her face like a torrential downpour. After a moment, Fei Hu felt his neck becoming damp. He patted her shoulder and softly said, "If you want to cry, just let it all out! Crying might make you feel better."
Upon hearing this, Ye Xiaofei burst into loud sobs, feeling wronged and angry... It was like a flood that could not be contained. As she cried heartily, Fei Hu stood there feeling both sympathetic and excited; his goddess was in his embrace. With each of Ye Xiaofei's sobs, her chest pressed against him rhythmically, and this wonderful sensation left Fei Hu somewhat entranced.
Suddenly, Ye Xiaofei pushed him away and wiped her tears angrily. "Are you made of wood? You want me to cry myself to death without saying a comforting word?"
Fei Hu was startled and quickly retracted his inappropriate thoughts. "No, I really didn't know what happened! I wanted to comfort you but didn't know what to say." As he spoke, he hurriedly pulled some tissues from a box on the desk and handed them to Ye Xiaofei.
Ye Xiaofei took the tissues and wiped her tears before sitting back down at her desk. She said fiercely, "Those two despicable people! They made me go out today and fired several leaders from important departments in the company—people I had been training recently! They are so ruthless and terrifying; they completely disregarded me! They just sent me an email explaining that due to recent declines in company performance, layoffs were necessary—it's utter nonsense!"
Hearing this, Fei Hu finally understood what was happening. Ye Wei was indeed a cunning fox; today he had staged a façade while secretly undermining Ye Xiaofei. This meant that he had completely sidelined her work during this time by dismissing key personnel in important departments who held crucial information. It was clear that Ye Wei intended to oppose Ye Xiaofei at all costs.
Fei Hu crouched down and quickly helped Ye Xiaofei organize all the scattered materials on the floor, categorizing them one by one before placing them back on her desk. Then he walked over to her side and mustered the courage to pat her on the back as she buried herself in paperwork. "Don't take it too personally; as long as they make a move, we can find a way to deal with it. What we should fear is if they don't act because then we will be at a disadvantage."
When Ye Xiaofei heard Fei Hu refer to "we," warmth spread through her heart. She turned around and hugged him tightly, asking softly, "Can you help me? Help me protect Sheng Wei from being swallowed up by these bastards?"
Fei Hu gently patted Ye Xiaofei's back and said, "Of course, how could we not? Yingzi and I have always been here to help you, right? There might even be others we can't see. As long as what we do is right, there will be many people willing to help us."
Ye Xiaofei looked up, her eyes filled with emotion as she gazed at Fei Hu. At that moment, she appeared softer, and seeing her slightly swollen eyes made Fei Hu want to kiss her. However, he held back, thinking it would be taking advantage of her vulnerability.
Today's blow had been significant for Ye Xiaofei. The authority she usually commanded had been completely shattered. She leaned against Fei Hu, feeling as gentle as a little bird. In that moment, it seemed that only Fei Hu was her support and strong backing.
Outside the window was pitch black, and the office lights were off. Fei Hu stood while Ye Xiaofei sat on the edge of the desk, wrapping her arms around him. They remained in silence, afraid to break the tranquility that enveloped them; for Ye Xiaofei, this was perhaps a wonderful experience.
In the darkness, Fei Hu gently stroked Ye Xiaofei's silky hair. She had her eyes closed, looking very content. When his hand brushed against her smooth and tender face, Ye Xiaofei shivered slightly but showed no intention of pulling away. Fei Hu could clearly sense her subconscious acceptance of him.
Fei Hu slowly crouched down, using the faint light coming through the window to look at Ye Xiaofei's hazy figure. An unnamed impulse surged within him, making it hard for him to remain calm. Suddenly, he embraced Ye Xiaofei's head and pressed his fiery lips against hers. Startled by his unexpected action, Ye Xiaofei opened her eyes wide. By the time she realized Fei Hu's intentions, it was too late. The passionate kiss left her breathless; she only symbolically pushed him away twice before giving up resistance and tightly holding onto his head.
As Fei Hu's tongue broke through her defenses and was about to meet Ye Xiaofei's sweet tongue, her phone rang at an inopportune moment. It was truly disappointing. Ye Xiaofei abruptly pushed Fei Hu away, stood up, grabbed her phone, and said, "Sister Wu! I'm fine; you all go ahead and eat! Don't wait for me; I might be back late."
Once Ye Xiaofei hung up the phone, Fei Hu quickly pulled her into his embrace. He didn't want to waste this hard-won opportunity. Startled by his boldness, Ye Xiaofei gently pushed him away and said, "You scoundrel! Are you trying to take advantage of me when I'm down? Am I really like a fallen phoenix that's worse than a chicken?"
Fei Hu shamelessly kissed her cheek first and then said, "You should have known my feelings for you long ago. Please don't make it difficult for me anymore. You are my goddess. Every time you find ways to torment or bully me, I accept it because I've been waiting for this day—to kiss you. Rest assured that with me around, no one can bully you."
At that moment, Ye Xiaofei felt a whirlwind of emotions inside her heart. This man had already entered her heart long ago. Whether it was love or hate, ever since she encountered Wei Sheng that day and was attacked by this lecherous man, he would appear in her mind whenever she had free time. That's why she thought of ways to bully him; however, his constant tolerance only made her feel more unsettled.
On that night in the Great Forest, thinking back on it now made her realize that this man truly had a connection with her; perhaps it was fate's arrangement. Ye Xiaofei sighed deeply; she didn't know what to say to Fei Hu at that moment because due to various troubles at work and home lately, she hadn't been able to calm down and think about her future at all—she had no mental preparation for this matter.
Seeing Ye Xiaofei with her head down made Fei Hu feel that although he held her delicate body close to him, she still had some reservations about him—perhaps due to their differing statuses. Noticing Ye Xiaofei's lack of enthusiasm, Fei Hu tactfully released his hold on her.
Ye Xiaofei gazed out the window, her mind tracing back through the memories of Fei Hu. This man was not a bad person; he was upright in his actions. However, she was very aware of his undeniable lechery and that he had been with more than just Sun Li. She could somewhat forgive this, as society was like that nowadays, especially since she had received a Western education.
What Ye Xiaofei was truly worried about was if Fei Hu had an affair with Wang Qian, which would put her in even greater danger. If, hypothetically, Fei Hu belonged to Wang Qian, then her situation would be even worse. The more she thought about it, the more anxious she became, causing her to furrow her brows.
Noticing Ye Xiaofei's restless demeanor, Fei Hu softly said, "Did I overstep a bit earlier? If so, please forgive me. I promise I won't act like that towards you again."
Ye Xiaofei paused for a moment and suddenly asked, "Be honest with me: are you involved with Wang Qian? Let's clarify this first."
Fei Hu was taken aback; it seemed that a woman's intuition should not be underestimated. However, this matter needed to be addressed. After pondering for a while, Fei Hu recounted his trip to Hong Kong with Wang Qian in detail, leaving nothing out—even how they ended up in bed together.
After listening to him, Ye Xiaofei slammed her hand on the table in anger and said sternly, "Why didn't you tell me about this sooner? Wang Qian has serious issues. It seems she's not only playing with Sheng Wei but also with Ye Wei. If there is solid evidence, she could face criminal charges."
Fei Hu was stunned upon hearing this; didn't that mean he was covering for Wang Qian?
