At the villa, everyone spent the entire afternoon discussing strategies. Ye Xiaofei gradually changed her tone towards Fei Hu; after all, this was her family matter, and Fei Hu was merely an outsider. It was already commendable that he was willing to help, and Ye Xiaofei was clear about that.
In the end, it was Ye Cheng who suggested taking a passive approach first to see what Ye Wei would do, while also observing Ye Wu's movements. These two had always been in cahoots; if one acted, the other would definitely follow suit.
By the time Yingzi dropped Fei Hu off at his place, it was nearly six o'clock in the evening. Although they had been sitting and talking all day, it felt more exhausting than standing at work. Fei Hu took a bath to relax and immediately felt much better. He turned on the television and flipped through channels for a while but found it utterly boring. Just as he was about to go to sleep, his phone rang. He picked it up and saw that it was a call from Ni Ling. After hesitating for a moment, he pressed the answer button: "Hello! Ni Ling, what can I do for you?"
"Hey! You really are a busy person. Didn't we agree yesterday to have dinner together? How could you forget so quickly? You’re not going to say you’re busy again tonight, are you?" Ni Ling laughed on the other end of the line, her voice incredibly pleasant.
Fei Hu slapped his forehead as realization hit him; they had indeed made that plan yesterday. Today had been so chaotic that he completely forgot about it. He owed Ni Ling a favor, and today seemed like the perfect opportunity. Thinking of this, Fei Hu quickly replied, "I'm free! Just tell me where to meet, and I'll head over right now." As he spoke, he stood up and began looking for his clothes.
After a moment of thought, Ni Ling told him about a place not far from his residence. This woman was quite thoughtful. After getting ready, Fei Hu jogged out of the community, feeling very cheerful. He couldn't quite explain why he felt so excited—was it because she was a police officer or because she was beautiful? But Fei Hu felt those reasons weren't entirely sufficient.
Different people choose different places to eat. Ni Ling invited Fei Hu to a restaurant called Flowing Water House. While it wasn't as luxurious as a Five-Star Hotel, the environment was elegant and tidy, giving one a sense of being in a paradise. The rockery flowed with water, colorful fountains danced around, and the goldfish in the pond swam restlessly—it truly felt like being in an otherworldly realm.
The private room Ni Ling reserved was called Cloud Pavilion. Just hearing the name indicated that those dining there had exquisite taste. When Fei Hu pushed open the door to the room, he saw Ni Ling already seated inside, smiling at him. He quickly stepped forward to shake her hand; after exchanging pleasantries, they both took their seats.
Fei Hu then looked up and took a good look at Ni Ling. Without her police uniform, she appeared even more beautiful and charming. She wore an army-green suede jacket that made her look both noble and graceful. A pure white silk scarf around her neck further accentuated her elegant demeanor.
"Hey! Is there something wrong with me? Why are you staring at me without blinking?" Ni Ling lightly tapped the table and smiled at Fei Hu.
Fei Hu shook his head and said, "What’s wrong? The only issue is that you’re just too beautiful; once I look at you, I can’t take my eyes off! You’re truly eye-catching; I think you don’t even need to order food—I’m already full just by looking!" As he spoke, he burst into laughter.
Ni Ling playfully rolled her eyes at Fei Hu and lightly laughed: "I didn’t expect this from you; not only are you skilled but your charm with women is top-notch too. No wonder Yingzi always praises you—I think she’s already falling for you!"
As soon as Fei Hu heard Ni Ling shift the topic to Yingzi, he quickly said, "Not at all! Yingzi wouldn't fall for my tricks. We're just good buddies."
Ni Ling chuckled lightly a couple of times and didn't linger on the topic. She ordered a few dishes and then asked for several bottles of beer without really consulting Fei Hu. It was clear that she was decisive and efficient in her actions.
The dishes arrived quickly. Ni Ling poured a full glass of beer for both herself and Fei Hu, then smiled and said, "I won't say thank you because of work reasons. I can only accompany you with some beer; you don't mind, do you?"
"Not at all. As for alcohol, drink if you can; if not, then don’t force it. Forcing it can lead to problems. The point of us sitting together is to have a good time," Fei Hu replied, raising his glass and gently clinking it against Ni Ling's before downing it in one go.
Ni Ling smiled and took a small sip before putting down her glass. "That's right. You're quite loyal. In today's society, people like you are almost extinct; it's truly rare. If it weren't for your help last year, we wouldn't have been able to close that case."
Ni Ling's tone was serious, and Fei Hu across from her could feel the pressure she was under at work. They slowly ate their meals and leisurely drank their beer. Ni Ling lightly smiled and said, "Days like this are too rare for me; it's nice to relax. Sometimes I envy you guys for living carefree lives. Although your work isn't very stable, at least there's not much pressure. We're different; being in our position means some cases need to be solved immediately. Delays can lead to issues, and superiors will put pressure on you, making this job quite difficult."
As Ni Ling spoke, she finished all the beer in her glass in one go, indicating that she had come to dinner with some worries.
After pouring her another full glass, Fei Hu softly said, "Try to look at things more openly! Whether at work or in life, there’s basically no obstacle that can't be overcome; it just depends on how you approach it. If something's bothering you, feel free to share! Let’s see if I can help." Fei Hu was indeed very candid, expressing exactly what he thought.
Ni Ling pondered for a moment, then went over to lock the door from the inside and closed the window. After checking the soundproofing of the room, she sat down with a sigh and lowered her voice, saying, "I originally wanted to invite you out for a meal specifically, but circumstances don't allow me to do that. Regardless of how you see me now, I still have something to ask you."
Fei Hu smiled slightly and said, "That's fine; as long as it's something I know about, I'll tell you honestly. Didn't you help me out too? Let's consider it mutual assistance!"
"Alright! I won’t hold back then. Think carefully: when you were inside, did you hear Four Great Kings mention someone named Aunt?" Ni Ling was after all a police officer; her approach was straightforward and efficient even in conversation.
Aunt? Fei Hu racked his brain but couldn't recall anyone mentioning such a person. He shook his head and replied, "Nope, not at all. Didn't the Bai Jing case get resolved? Why is there still an investigation?"
Ni Ling let out a sigh and said, "I shouldn't really tell you this, but since you seem reliable and know a bit about the matter, I'll just share. Last time, based on the clues you provided, we interrogated Blackie. We found over ten kilograms of Meth in his house in the countryside, but it turns out it wasn't even his. He was just holding it for someone called 'Auntie,' but Blackie said he had never met her and only knew of her existence."
Fei Hu felt overwhelmed upon hearing this. He hadn't expected things to be so complicated with all these 'Aunties' and 'Big Aunts.' Feeling a bit annoyed, he took a sip of his beer and shook his head helplessly.
Ni Ling smiled at him and said softly, "I'm really sorry to bother you with this. Let's not talk about it anymore. Let's enjoy our drinks and food."
With that, Fei Hu straightened up, and the two of them began to eat and drink. The conversation shifted to lighter topics, with everyone chiming in on subjects that young people were interested in.
After a few beers, Ni Ling's face flushed slightly as she smiled and asked Fei Hu, "What does your girlfriend do? Is she with you?"
"My girlfriend? My future mother-in-law hasn't even been born yet; it's still too early," Fei Hu laughed heartily.
Ni Ling shook her head and replied, "That's not right! Sun Li is so beautiful and capable; you can't possibly overlook her. And what about Yingzi? There should be a long line of them waiting behind you."
When Fei Hu heard Ni Ling mention Sun Li, his heart skipped a beat. However, he quickly laughed it off, saying, "They're all just friends. Sun Li is a staunch non-marriage advocate. Besides, we don't match in terms of age or status. As for Yingzi, we're just good buddies. I wouldn't want love to ruin our friendship. And honestly, she wouldn't look at me—a poor security guard—when it comes to dating. Once I save enough money, I’ll just have my grandpa arrange for me to marry a village girl."
Fei Hu's words were straightforward and sincere, which made Ni Ling glance at him twice. Many young people nowadays are mediocre but have high aspirations; they all want to marry rich beauties or handsome millionaires. People like Fei Hu with such a mindset are indeed rare.
Suddenly, Ni Ling asked Fei Hu, "Aren't you particularly close with the leader of the Dragon Tiger Gang, Ye Cheng?"
Upon hearing this, Fei Hu's heart skipped a beat. Why did she suddenly ask this? Could this drug trafficking case be related to the Ye Family? His heart sank at the thought.
