Ye Cheng's words surprised Fei Hu, Ye Xiaofei, and Sister Wu. They didn't expect there to be such a complicated story behind this matter; it seemed that the competition for the position of the elder brother was not just a struggle for power.
The first day of the New Year passed quickly in an unpleasant atmosphere. Starting from that afternoon, Fei Hu deliberately turned off his phone, fearing that someone might call and affect Ye Cheng's mood.
The next morning, Fei Hu got up early. In the spacious yard of the villa, he practiced several sets of punches and did some breathing exercises. By the time he finished, the sun had just begun to peek out.
"Your Tiger Fist is quite impressive! Did your grandfather teach you?" Ye Cheng had somehow appeared behind Fei Hu, smiling as he watched him and couldn't help but ask.
Fei Hu quickly turned around, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and smiled as he replied, "Yes, Grandpa really gets up early."
"It's not too early. Usually by this time, I've already finished my morning exercises. I had a bit of trouble sleeping last night; I didn't expect to fall asleep again after dawn. As one gets older, there are more issues; unlike you young people who can sleep whenever you want," Ye Cheng said, stretching and loosening his muscles, seemingly wanting to practice Tai Chi.
Fei Hu remained silent and walked over directly. He extended his right hand and began practicing Tai Chi with Ye Cheng. The scene of the old and young practicing together in the morning was quite lively.
On the balcony, Ye Xiaofei was wearing a coat and slowly twisting her waist. Recently, she had been under a lot of work pressure and sitting for long periods made her feel like she had gained weight, which frustrated her greatly. Now, whenever she had free time, she started exercising and had already cut back on food. She held high standards for her figure because she believed that a woman's beauty lies not only in her temperament but also in her shape.
Sister Wu walked over gently and smiled at Ye Xiaofei, saying, "Xiaofei, I see that your elder brother seems to be in a better mood this morning. Why don't you encourage him to go out for a walk? With Fei Hu around, it should be fine."
Ye Xiaofei glanced at Fei Hu and Ye Cheng practicing Tai Chi in the yard and nodded at Sister Wu, saying, "Okay, I'll give it a try later. But if we go out now, all the scenic spots will be overcrowded; I'm afraid Grandpa won't be happy about that."
"We're just going out to relax; there's no need to go to any scenic spots. We can choose a place with mountains and water; just walking around would be great! Lately, your elder brother seems a bit restless; I'm worried that if it goes on too long, it might lead to some problems," Sister Wu said with concern.
Ye Xiaofei quickly replied, "I understand. I should be able to motivate him. However, I've noticed that Grandpa really enjoys listening to what Fei Hu has to say; I'll let him persuade him later—it shouldn't be too difficult."
Two women had agreed and went back to their rooms to prepare in advance.
After finishing their training, Ye Cheng and Fei Hu felt relaxed. The two of them were joking as they walked towards the living room. When Yeh Xiaofei saw them, she smiled at Ye Cheng and said, "Grandpa, the weather is nice today. How about we go out for a stroll and clear our minds?" As she spoke, she winked at Fei Hu.
Yeh Xiaofei's sudden suggestion surprised Ye Cheng. He turned to look at Fei Hu and shook his head, saying, "I think it's better to stay at home. It's the New Year, and there are people everywhere outside, pushing and shoving, which is quite annoying."
Fei Hu was not foolish; he understood Yeh Xiaofei's hint when she winked at him earlier. Now that Ye Cheng was asking for his opinion, he knew exactly how to respond. Fei Hu smiled and said, "It's fine. We just won't go to crowded places. What attractions are there anyway? They are all discovered by people. If we want to go out, we can find our own spots without following the crowd; we can still have fun."
"Ha ha! Well said! Then let's go out today. You choose the place for us and prepare more things. If we can come back tonight, we'll return; if not, we can play for a couple more days," Ye Cheng suddenly changed his tone, which made everyone very happy.
Fei Hu returned to his room to see what he needed to bring. Just then, Yeh Xiaofei walked in holding a bag. She tossed it onto the bed and said, "Change into this outfit; it's suitable for traveling."
Fei Hu was taken aback when he looked inside the bag; it was the casual sports outfit he had tried on a few days ago. The clothes were a bit expensive, and he hesitated to accept them easily. Smiling, he said to Yeh Xiaofei, "No need; I can wear what I have on."
"Don't say that! What's the point of me buying this outfit if you're not going to wear it? I might as well throw it away," Yeh Xiaofei said as she opened the window and lifted the bag to throw it outside.
Seeing this, Fei Hu panicked and quickly stepped forward to snatch the bag from her hand, slightly angry as he said, "If I wear it, is that so bad? You have plenty of money! Then you should cover all my clothes from now on!" He gestured for her to leave.
As Yeh Xiaofei walked towards the door, she secretly laughed. This guy seemed to have a soft spot; she would have to assert her dominance over him in the future so that he would bow down to her. Wouldn't that be delightful? Thinking of this made Yeh Xiaofei chuckle.
The four of them set off with Fei Hu driving. Yeh Xiaofei sat in the passenger seat while Ye Cheng and Sister Wu sat together in the back seat, pointing out things outside the window and chatting happily. Their mood seemed excellent. Fei Hu focused straight ahead without daring to glance sideways because he noticed something surprising: Yeh Xiaofei was wearing the same casual sports outfit as him today. Sitting together made them look like a couple. Although Fei Hu's looks were somewhat lacking, overall, they still matched well.
As Fei Hu drove, he began thinking positively about the situation. What did Yeh Xiaofei mean by this? Was she trying to convey something? Why did she give him an outfit and even coordinate their clothing? The thought made him feel sweeter than honey.
They chose to visit a farm near City A today. The roads were quite good, mostly provincial highways, with only a few kilometers of small paths leading to a picturesque and sparsely populated forest area. When the car reached the foot of the mountain, there was no road ahead. Everyone got out of the car, and Ye Cheng looked at the moderately sized peak in front of him, sincerely exclaiming, "What a great place! It may not be stunning, but it has its own steadfast beauty. The two mountains are connected like close friends, even resembling a couple. Hahaha, we definitely need to explore up there!"
Ye Xiaofei cheered and took the lead, running up a small path toward the mountain. Fei Hu unknowingly followed closely behind, forgetting that Ye Cheng was still back there. Watching the two vibrant figures ahead, Ye Cheng turned to Sister Wu and asked, "Why are their outfits identical? Did they buy them on purpose?"
Sister Wu smiled and replied, "It seems Xiaofei bought this outfit for Fei Hu. This morning, when I passed by Fei Hu's door, I saw Xiaofei threatening Fei Hu that if she didn't accept the clothes she gave her, she would throw them out the window. As a result, Fei Hu obediently accepted them."
Upon hearing this, Ye Cheng laughed heartily, "That girl has such a strong personality! Giving someone a gift like that!"
The mountain wasn't very high; there was originally a temple at the top. No wonder the path was so well-maintained. By the time Fei Hu caught up with Ye Xiaofei, she was already sitting on a large stone at the temple entrance, panting.
"Hey! How did you get up here too? Grandpa and Sister Wu will be angry," Ye Xiaofei said as she pointed down the mountain.
Fei Hu hurriedly turned around and saw Sister Wu supporting Ye Cheng as they made their way up step by step. Although their pace wasn't very fast, it was steady and vigorous—almost comparable to that of young people. Fei Hu watched this scene with admiration in his heart and suddenly thought about whether he would also have a woman by his side when he grew old like Ye Cheng.
Once Ye Cheng and Sister Wu reached the top of the mountain, everyone proceeded into the temple. The temple consisted of three connected buildings: the main hall dedicated to Tathagata Buddha, with the God of Wealth on the left and Bodhisattva on the right. Fei Hu recognized these deities immediately as they were also present in his hometown. The incense in the temple was quite strong, suggesting that local villagers often came here.
Ye Cheng led them in starting from the main hall, kneeling down one by one to pay their respects. As he prayed, he explained to Ye Xiaofei about these Buddhas' origins and why people worshipped them. Listening to him, Fei Hu realized that regardless of region, people's hopes were almost identical: farmers wished for favorable weather and peace for their families while hoping for prosperous descendants. This sentiment was plainly expressed in couplets on both sides.
"Amitabha! Where do you come from, benefactors?" At that moment, an elderly voice floated over from the temple entrance. It had a vivid quality to it; Fei Hu imagined an old Daoist priest with white hair and youthful features appearing like a scene from a movie—holding a Buddhist rosary and bowing slightly.
Everyone slowly turned toward the sound and saw indeed an elderly man with white hair and youthful features standing tall at the corner of the temple entrance. Although he wasn't holding a rosary, he was bowing slightly and had a basket strapped to his back.
