In City A, winter arrived a bit earlier than usual this year. In the not-so-warm bed, Fei Hu woke up feeling cold, which struck him as odd since he had such a strong body. He wondered how cold others must be feeling.
Just as Fei Hu was getting ready to dress, a prison guard suddenly opened the iron door and shouted, "Get up! Go to the reading room to collect your winter clothes, then we all need to shovel snow together. No excuses! Hurry up!" After finishing his announcement, he went to knock on other dormitory doors.
"What? It snowed! No wonder it's so cold," muttered a few guys in the same dorm as they shivered while putting on their clothes, complaining about the unexpected arrival of winter.
Fei Hu was the first to get dressed. He moved around a bit in the dormitory to warm up and patted Li Si Niu on the shoulder, saying, "Come on, let's go get our clothes. After that, we can shovel snow and have a snowball fight. It'll be fun!" Fei Hu's face lit up with childlike innocence, as if he had returned to his childhood.
Li Si Niu glanced at Fei Hu and quietly replied, "No matter how fun it is, we're still in prison. Don't forget the saying 'When a person is reckless, bad things happen.' It's better to be cautious." Li Si Niu stood up, nodded at Fei Hu, and opened the door first. Fei Hu followed behind, feeling quite uncomfortable. Why was Li Si Niu saying all this early in the morning? Did he do something wrong? Li Si Niu was such an odd person, always speaking in riddles. Fei Hu shook his head helplessly.
After putting on their winter clothes and grabbing brooms, Fei Hu and Li Si Niu were assigned to clear the path leading up the mountain from behind the dormitory. The snowfall from last night had been heavy; stepping into it made snow reach their ankles. According to some older inmates, this was the biggest snowfall City A had seen in over a decade.
Being from the north, Fei Hu had plenty of experience with winter. He knew that standing still in the snow would quickly lead to freezing. However, working hard would increase blood circulation and keep him warm. So as soon as they got there, Fei Hu threw himself into the work—not because he loved labor but because he wanted to avoid getting cold.
Under Fei Hu's influence, everyone started moving. Soon enough, they had cleared most of the path. Just as they were feeling pleased with their progress, four guys from another group came pushing a garbage cart filled with snow and carelessly dumped it right where Fei Hu and his friends had just cleared.
At first, Fei Hu thought they had simply pushed it poorly and it tipped over. But upon closer inspection, he realized they had done it on purpose.
Wasn't this outright bullying? Yet none of Fei Hu's group dared to speak up; they all turned their heads away as if they hadn't seen anything. Only Li Si Niu was grinning at Fei Hu. To make matters worse, these guys used their brooms to sweep out more snow from their cart as they walked away.
Seeing this, Fei Hu couldn't hold back any longer. He shouted, "Stop! Who told you to dump snow here? Can't you see how hard we worked to clear this area?"
"Who do you think you are to tell us what to do? We can dump it wherever we want without needing your permission. Are you itching for trouble? We can give you some," said a tall guy around thirty with a sharp chin as he approached Fei Hu brandishing a broom.
At that moment, Old Li, who shared a dorm with Fei Hu, ran over. He was slightly older and timid, often bullied by others in the dorm. Today, however, he seemed unusually bold as he smiled and said to the newcomer, "Northwest, just let it go! He just got here and doesn't know any better. I'll clean up after I'm done; you all can leave!"
"Get lost! When did it become your turn to speak? Be careful I don't beat you up," the guy called Northwest retorted arrogantly.
Fei Hu tugged at Old Li and said with a smile, "This isn't your business; go do your work! It's nothing serious."
"No, this guy is one of the Four Great Kings of the Dragon Tiger Gang, a subordinate of Ye Wu. He's extremely ruthless; you mustn't provoke him," Xiao Li warned Fei Hu quietly while backing away.
Hey! This was quite a surprise; within just two days of arriving, he had already encountered two enforcers from the Dragon Tiger Gang, both under Ye Wu. No wonder this group dared to challenge Ye Cheng; it seemed they had some real power.
"What’s wrong? Feeling soft? Weren't you loud just now? Call out again so I can hear you," Northwest said, holding a broom in his right hand and clenching a large fist in his left, his eyes seemingly ablaze with fury.
Fei Hu sneered and said firmly, "Clean up the snow that was just dumped here immediately."
"Hahaha, I'll clean it for you!" Northwest laughed maniacally as he charged at Fei Hu, swinging the broom in a wide arc aimed directly at Fei Hu's legs.
Fei Hu realized that this guy was no ordinary thug; he intended to seriously injure him right off the bat. Even if he didn't die from it, he would definitely be hurt. Who wouldn't be afraid of such a reckless person? But today was different; Fei Hu executed a move called "Rising Onion," leaping straight into the air. This move looked simple but required significant core strength—achieving such skill without three to five years of rigorous training was merely wishful thinking.
As Northwest's broom swept through the air and struck the ground, it kicked up a cloud of snow like a white curtain, creating a spectacular sight. Little did he know how cruel it was to hit someone’s legs like that. Just as things were unfolding quickly, Fei Hu wouldn’t hold back against someone like him. In mid-air, Fei Hu swung his broom down with icy force, landing a solid hit on Northwest's shoulder. Northwest never expected Fei Hu to strike so swiftly; losing his balance, he fell forward right onto a freshly piled mound of snow.
Being a seasoned thug who had rolled around outside for many years, he quickly tumbled several times in the snow and scrambled back to his feet. Just as he was brushing off the snow from his body, Fei Hu mercilessly closed in on him. Fei Hu swung his left fist while his right punched out like a hammer. In his panic, Northwest raised his right hand to block but was helpless against Fei Hu's full force; with a loud thud, Fei Hu's punch landed squarely on his chest.
The impact sent Northwest staggering backward. That was exactly the effect Fei Hu wanted. Suddenly leaping forward, he stomped down with both feet into Northwest's abdomen with such force that Northwest's tall frame slid back several meters before crashing onto the snow. He struggled for a moment but couldn't get back up; this blow had injured him significantly. Without at least ten days or half a month of recovery time, he shouldn't even think about showing off again.
At that moment, three guys who had come from the northwest quietly approached from behind Fei Hu. He only heard Li Si Niu whisper, "Watch your back."
Fei Hu suddenly realized he had been too careless. Focused on dealing with this guy, he had forgotten there were others behind him. It was too late to turn around. Fei Hu quickly crouched down and spun like a top, sweeping the broom along the ground. There was a sharp scream as one of the attackers was struck on the ankle by the broom. That spot hurt a lot when hit, and thankfully, he was smart enough to grab his injured foot and roll away.
The other two attackers, seeing their companion go down without even having a chance to strike, were momentarily stunned. In that instant of hesitation, Fei Hu charged at them. He had seen enough in just a few days to know he couldn't hold back here, so his strikes were quick and a bit ruthless.
By the time everyone realized what was happening, one was clutching his leg and the other his stomach, both rolling backward while howling in pain.
When Fei Hu turned around, he saw the northwest guy getting up from the snow, his face pale but still managing to say, "We'll see about this," before limping away with his companions, pushing a garbage cart.
Li Si Niu walked over and laughed, saying, "Brother, you’ve beaten everyone in the dorms; you’re laughing at all those fools. But remember, it's lonely at the top; your troubles will only increase!"
Fei Hu shook his head and replied, "Whatever. These bastards are really pushing their luck. If I don't hit them back, I'll be furious."
Old Li came over with a smile and said, "That northwest guy is good friends with Chen Yibiao. Usually, when northwest bullies us, Chen Yibiao just watches without intervening. The four guys who came today are the bullies of Room 104; they often team up to pick on people. We all avoid them."
Li Si Niu suddenly asked Old Li, "With them being so rampant, isn't there anyone who can take care of them?"
"I heard they got beaten up once by an old inmate from the Second District. They were so scared they didn't dare fight back; apparently, he was some kind of senior of theirs," Old Li replied vaguely.
