Reading Room One was very large, capable of accommodating two to three hundred people. Fei Hu and Li Si Niu chose a spot in the corner by the wall to sit down. They claimed they were studying, but in reality, they were just reading some newspapers. According to their dorm mates, there might even be prison guards giving lectures, which were nothing more than some grand principles about how to reform oneself and strive for an early release.
Fei Hu held a newspaper in his hand, but his mind was not on it; his thoughts had already flown beyond the high walls. He wondered what Ye Xiaofei was doing at that moment, what kind of clothes she was wearing today, and if her figure was still as impressive as ever. Lost in thought, Fei Hu couldn't help but smile to himself.
"Are you 526?" a hoarse voice came from nearby. Startled, Fei Hu turned around quickly, realizing that Li Si Niu was not beside him anymore. In a panic, he looked back and saw a middle-aged man in his forties sitting next to him. The man's hair was somewhat graying, and his face was dark and thin. He held a newspaper in front of his face, making it impossible for anyone standing in front to see him clearly as he spoke to Fei Hu.
Fei Hu glanced at the prison guard on the podium and nodded silently. After confirming Fei Hu's identity, the middle-aged man suddenly asked quietly, "Brother Ye Cheng said he has a friend here; do you know what his name is?"
Who is this person? How does he know about his connection with Ye Cheng? This was truly surprising. Fei Hu initially thought about ignoring him but then realized something was off. Only Ni Ling and her friends knew about his identity, but they didn't know he was acquainted with Ye Cheng. The fact that this man could ask such a question made him wonder if he was affiliated with Ye Cheng.
After thinking for a moment, Fei Hu decided that since he had boasted to everyone that he was part of the Dragon Tiger Gang, he might as well admit it again. He wrote the character for "fly" on the table with his finger. The man's expression brightened slightly as he said, "Brother, I have something for you to wear as a token. There are many brothers from Dragon Tiger here; if you need help, they will protect you when they see your token."
Upon hearing this, Fei Hu realized that this man truly was connected to Ye Cheng. He felt deeply moved that even within the confines of the high walls and iron bars, Ye Cheng had gone out of his way to establish connections for him. This kindness would forever be remembered by Fei Hu.
The middle-aged man bent slightly and reached into his pants pocket to pull out a small handkerchief, gently pushing it over to Fei Hu. In a hurry, Fei Hu covered it with the newspaper before slowly taking it into his hand.
Once the item was delivered, the middle-aged man stood up to change newspapers. Just then, Li Si Niu reappeared from somewhere and whispered, "Let's go to the restroom!" Startled, Fei Hu quickly got up and followed Li Si Niu out of the reading room.
As soon as they entered the restroom, Fei Hu closed the stall door behind him and quickly opened the handkerchief. Inside lay an exquisite Jade Pendant. Upon seeing the Dragon Tiger pattern on it, Fei Hu immediately recognized it as Ye Cheng's token. He carefully hung the pendant around his neck before tossing the handkerchief into the toilet. Here, he understood what it meant to be cautious.
The entire afternoon passed with Fei Hu feeling distracted. He never expected that his situation would attract so much concern from others, especially from Ye Cheng. Although he was considered an influential figure in A City and commanded great respect—most people dared not provoke him—he had only helped him a few times through Yingzi. He never anticipated that this time, he would go to such lengths on his behalf; this feeling could not simply be described as gratitude.
In the reading room with two to three hundred people, it could be said that there was not a single empty seat. Looking around, all he could see were heads. Fei Hu had no interest in reading the newspaper and began to observe what the people from his dormitory were doing. Li Si Niu was sitting next to Fei Hu, along with a few usually honest individuals, all of whom Fei Hu noticed, except for Chen Yibiao and a few others, which puzzled him greatly.
As mealtime approached, the prison guards began their lecture. It was indeed similar to what the people in the dormitory had said; they spoke of some grand principles that held educational significance. However, most of those who ended up here were stubborn individuals who could not be easily reformed by mere words.
By the time dinner was over, the rain had long stopped. After finishing their meal, everyone went out to the playground for a walk. Fei Hu and Li Si Niu sat on a concrete block under the basketball pole, chatting back and forth. Just then, Chen Yibiao appeared like a ghost. He nodded at Li Si Niu, who discreetly walked away.
"Boss, there were too many people at noon, and there were some things I couldn't say. Regardless of whether you are genuine or fake in the Dragon Tiger Gang, you are still our dormitory's boss. But when you say you know Bai Jing and have been to bed with her, that seems a bit exaggerated. The Bai Jing we know is definitely not the same person," Chen Yibiao said, staring intently at Fei Hu with a serious expression.
It seemed that Chen Yibiao's true intentions were about to be revealed. He was clearly someone’s lackey, having been gathering information about Fei Hu all along. This was something Fei Hu finally confirmed. Well! Since he was here, they might as well have a little contest of wits.
Fei Hu glared at Chen Yibiao and muttered under his breath, "You really look down on others. If we were outside, I would have dealt with you already. Do you believe that you dare to doubt even those around the boss?"
"It's not that I look down on you, but without evidence, if I say I'm the boss of the Dragon Tiger Gang, would you believe me or not? We shouldn't talk about this topic anymore; once we go outside, everything will become clear. For now, let's talk about Bai Jing," Chen Yibiao said as he leaned closer to Fei Hu.
Fei Hu smiled and replied, "You won't believe until you see it for yourself. Let me show you something; just make sure you recognize its value." With that, Fei Hu pulled out a jade pendant hidden in his collar and displayed it in front of him.
At first, Chen Yibiao didn't pay much attention until he saw the design on it; his eyes nearly popped out. He muttered softly, "This is the boss's token. The rules state that seeing this token is like seeing the boss himself. Boss, it's my fault for being blind and not recognizing greatness; please punish me!" Chen Yibiao looked terrified; it seemed this guy truly was a member of the Dragon Tiger Gang. Recognizing value was good; what he feared most was encountering someone who didn't recognize it at all.
Fei Hu gently patted Chen Yibiao's shoulder and said, "It's fine; just don't make me angry in the future. Are there many people from the Dragon Tiger Gang here? Do you know them all?"
Chen Yibiao shook his head and replied, "I only know a few; I don't recognize any of those who came in earlier or have higher status. How about this: I'll walk with you through this crowd for a couple of laps? Once they see your token hanging from your chest, they will react."
Fei Hu looked around the playground and noticed there were indeed many people. Why not give it a try? After all, walking around wouldn't hurt; if someone recognized him, that would be even better. If no one recognized him, so be it—he had already managed to intimidate Chen Yibiao, which was quite an achievement in itself.
Fei Hu stood up, adjusted the front of the token, and followed Chen Yibiao into the crowd. Some old inmates, seeing Fei Hu strutting through the throng with his head held high, displayed expressions of disdain. Fei Hu sensed this and thought to himself that it might be better to leave quickly; angering these old-timers would not end well for him.
Just as Fei Hu turned to head back, he was suddenly approached by more than ten middle-aged men, all around forty years old. They varied in height and build, but they all looked at Fei Hu with the same expression of reverence. The man at the front spoke softly, "The Dragon Tiger Gang has twelve members waiting here to greet you, big brother."
Wow! This was impressive; they could tell at a glance that he was genuine without any doubt about it. Fei Hu did not dare to joke about their sincerity. He stepped forward and stood alongside the middle-aged man, saying quietly, "Have them all disperse; I understand everyone's intentions."
The middle-aged man nodded. With just a glance, the group of over ten people instantly vanished into the crowd. This swift reaction left Fei Hu astonished; it seemed that the original Dragon Tiger Gang was not just a name but had real capability, unlike the current disorganized bunch.
Fei Hu leaned against the iron railing with the middle-aged man, appearing as if they did not know each other. Fei Hu slightly moved his lips and asked, "How long have you been inside? What were you charged with?"
"Please don't call me that, big brother. I've been here for almost four years now; I have two more years before I can get out. I was charged with intentional injury. I didn't follow your instructions and took on private work, which led to someone getting hurt and dragged several brothers down with me. Fortunately, you haven't forgotten us. Since we came in, you've arranged for someone to take care of everything at home. I'm very grateful," the middle-aged man replied, nodding at Fei Hu as if this good deed was arranged by him.
Fei Hu sighed lightly and said, "Keep it up! Strive to get out as soon as possible."
The middle-aged man smiled faintly and said, "You’re not just visiting for a few days and then leaving, are you?" Fei Hu thought to himself, how does he know?
