Fei Hu's persistent nagging, combined with Sun Li's gentle persuasion, finally led the attending physician to hesitate before signing the discharge papers.
Once outside, Fei Hu felt his breathing become much smoother, and he felt more energetic. Although he had enjoyed top-notch care inside, he had felt sluggish, as if the air was heavier than outside.
"You just got discharged; you can't stand for too long. Go lie down in your room," Sun Li said while tidying up the house, addressing Fei Hu, who was standing on the balcony looking around.
Fei Hu was caught up in the moment and casually replied to Sun Li, "I'm not a delicate girl; I'm not that fragile. Why should I lie down? I've been lying around for days and it's making me feel worse."
Upon hearing this, Sun Li quickly walked over, grabbed Fei Hu's ear, and sternly said, "You promised me in the hospital that you would listen to me. If you don't, I'll send you back!" As she spoke, she began to pull Fei Hu toward the door.
"Hey! Auntie, can't I just listen to you?" Fei Hu pleaded repeatedly as he followed Sun Li into the room.
This was hardly a joyful return; it felt no different from being under hospital supervision. Sun Li set numerous rules for Fei Hu and even wrote them down on paper for him to review while lying in bed. The other rules were bearable, but the third one was underlined: during his recovery, he must not have any inappropriate thoughts or physical contact with the opposite sex. Next to it, in parentheses, was written "Sun Li." Wasn't this bullying? Fei Hu decided to ignore it altogether, tearing the paper into shreds and tossing it into the trash can.
He could throw a little tantrum, but there were some things he had to listen to Sun Li about—like taking his medicine on time and knowing what he could or couldn't eat. He couldn't afford to be careless about these matters. Watching Sun Li busying herself around the house made Fei Hu suddenly realize that he had been a bit too willful. If he hadn't moved in, she would still be sleeping at this hour since she worked night shifts; this situation wasn't sustainable.
Fei Hu couldn't understand why the doctor had prescribed him two large bags of medication upon discharge—both Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine—along with several bags of herbal remedies that Sun Li had spent an entire afternoon preparing. Seeing her slightly reddened eyes from lack of sleep made him unable to hold back. He walked over and hugged Sun Li from behind, planting a kiss on her cheek and sincerely saying, "Thank you."
Sun Li smiled and replied, "It's nothing. As long as you recover quickly, I don't mind being a bit tired. Besides, I'm an official too; when I work night shifts, I can sneak in a little nap. Oh, there's your phone in a plastic bag on the coffee table; it might be dead. There's a Nokia charger in the drawer; hurry up and charge it! You haven't turned it on for days; there might be many people trying to reach you."
Fei Hu shook his head and said, "That won't happen; I don't have many friends in City A." He then went to look for the charger.
After dinner, once Sun Li saw that Fei Hu had taken his medicine, she said, "Alright, watch some TV for a bit and go to bed early. If you really need to go out, there's a room key in the middle drawer of the desk; make sure to take it with you. Otherwise, don’t expect to get back in."
Fei Hu chuckled and replied, "If you leave, I'll just have to sleep; what's there to go out for?" He then let out a long yawn.
Sun Li looked at the big boy who sometimes acted like a child as he walked over and kissed him on the cheek, saying, "Goodbye, baby." This term of endearment made Fei Hu feel sweet inside.
Doing nothing alone was boring. Fei Hu flipped through several channels, most of which were showing soap operas. What man would watch that? With nothing else to watch, Fei Hu settled on Sports World, a program that at least discussed sports and could lift his spirits.
Suddenly, his phone, which was charging, rang. Fei Hu was taken aback; who could it be? He didn't have many contacts saved in his phone and couldn't recall anyone. He walked over to check, and to his surprise, it was Bald Zhang calling. This guy was really sharp; as soon as he turned on his phone, Zhang called him.
"Hey! I said, brother, why haven't you turned on your phone for so many days? Are you hiding from debts?" As soon as the call connected, Bald Zhang laughed on the other end.
Fei Hu leaned back on the sofa and replied, "Nonsense! I never owe anyone money; why would I be hiding from debt?"
"Hahaha! I meant emotional debt; is a woman chasing you so much that you even turned off your phone?" Bald Zhang's cheerful nature was one of the things Fei Hu liked about him. Being around someone like him was stress-free.
Fei Hu sighed and said, "Alright, enough jokes. I've had some bad luck lately and got a little hurt. I just got out of the hospital today and am resting at a friend's place."
"Ah! With your skills, who could hurt you? Have you found out who did it? Tonight we’ll go take revenge for you. Where are you? I'll bring people over right away," Bald Zhang said with enthusiasm. His willingness to go to such lengths for a friend touched Fei Hu.
Fei Hu paused for a moment before saying, "Alright, just hearing you say that makes me feel grateful. When we have the chance, let’s drink together." He intended to end the call, but Bald Zhang was full of energy.
He urgently exclaimed, "You tell me where you are; I need to see it for myself to feel at ease. Unless you don’t consider me a friend!" Fei Hu had no choice but to mention a place near Sun Li's neighborhood; he remembered there was a tea house there.
Fei Hu changed his clothes, tidied up a bit, and then slowly walked towards the tea house. This big city was different; wherever there were places to spend money, there would definitely be people. Fei Hu chose a private room by the window. The price for a private room was nearly double that of sitting in the main hall, but it was worth it for discussing matters with friends; once the door closed, it felt like another world.
Fei Hu thought he would be generous this time. Normally when he drank tea, he ordered Chrysanthemum tea, but today he specifically ordered a pot of Tieguanyin. It wasn't because he had suddenly become wealthy; rather, when he left the hospital today, he surprisingly received over ten thousand yuan in change from someone else's advance payment. Fei Hu understood that this money must have been paid by Ye Cheng on his behalf. Although Yingzi had called him, Ye Xiaofei had been in the car with her, indicating that this matter was definitely related to her family.
"Wow! Brother, you really know how to pick places. Although this place is a bit far away, it's quite nice," Bald Zhang walked in with a smile and casually closed the door before sitting down across from Fei Hu.
Fei Hu poured a cup of tea for Bald Zhang and smiled as he said, "You’re looking good! It's already late autumn and you're still wearing such light clothing."
"Stop talking nonsense, let me see where you're hurt," Bald Zhang said as he walked over. Fei Hu hurriedly lowered his neck and pointed with his hand.
Bald Zhang took a look and gently touched Fei Hu's neck, sighing, "Brother, you really have a strong fate. That bastard's knife went in at an angle; if it had been straight, I wouldn't have seen you again."
As Bald Zhang said this, his expression turned a bit somber. Fei Hu chuckled and replied, "What's the big deal? When you walk in the rivers and lakes, it's normal to get your feet wet. Dying is also part of it; I can't just keep beating others. It's only fair to get hit occasionally."
"Good! Well said. As long as you're okay, that's what matters. But if there's trouble, everyone should share the burden. Don't take it all on yourself. Can you tell me what happened? I want to know," Bald Zhang said as he took a sip of the tea Fei Hu had brewed, nodding repeatedly.
Fei Hu thought for a moment and recounted the general events, though he deliberately omitted many details since this was related to internal matters of the Dragon Tiger Gang, which might involve a major incident.
Bald Zhang listened attentively and, being a smart man, could tell that there were parts Fei Hu couldn't disclose. So he didn't press further but nodded and said with some bravado, "A true man has spirit; for friends, I'm willing to face any danger. Knowing you is my great fortune."
"Hahaha, Brother Guang, you're exaggerating. I can't take that on," Fei Hu laughed heartily.
Suddenly, his phone in his pocket rang again. Fei Hu was startled; could it be that Sun Li found out he was out having fun? He quickly put his finger to his lips and shushed Bald Zhang before pulling out the phone. It turned out to be Sister Lian calling. What could this woman want at night? Fei Hu suddenly recalled the passionate kiss they shared on the street; that feeling was quite exhilarating.
"Answer it! If it's inconvenient, I'll step outside," Bald Zhang said as he stood up and headed for the door.
Fei Hu reached out and pulled him back, signaling him to sit down before answering the call. Once connected, Sister Lian's displeased voice came through: "Hello? Did you intentionally turn off your phone? I've been trying to reach you for days! If you don't want to talk, just say so; I won't bother you again."
Hey! This phone being off caused problems; everyone who called seemed to be blaming him. Fei Hu shook his head helplessly and said, "You've misunderstood me. It's not that I didn't want to answer your calls; I just got a little hurt recently and just came out of the hospital today. Do you need something?" He sensed that Sister Lian was upset about something.
