Suddenly, Yingzi's car slammed to a stop in front. Fei Hu, who was following closely, hurriedly pressed the brake pedal to the floor. By the time both cars came to a halt, Fei Hu's vehicle was just a few centimeters away from crashing into the back of the car in front.
The two cars that had been ambushing Yingzi did not expect Ye Xiaofei to suddenly brake. By the time they reacted, their cars had already skidded out for twenty or thirty meters, and they also came to an abrupt stop.
Fei Hu opened his car door and had just run up to the front car, ready to exchange opinions with Yingzi, when suddenly seven or eight individuals armed with machetes and wearing flesh-colored stockings emerged from the two cars ahead. They looked like characters straight out of a crime film. It dawned on Fei Hu that the situation was quite serious.
Yingzi quickly opened her car door and pulled out two three-section staffs from the trunk, asking Fei Hu, "Do you know how to use these?"
Fei Hu chuckled, "I can manage; I'll just treat them like firewood sticks!"
Just as he took hold of the three-section staff, the group charged at them, swinging their machetes directly at them. It seemed they were intent on inflicting serious harm. Fei Hu swung his staff swiftly, aiming directly at the throat of the foremost attacker. The speed and force were so great that the man didn’t have time to react; he screamed as he dropped his machete and clutched his neck, crouching down by the roadside.
Fei Hu's ferocity caught even Yingzi off guard; she had thought he wouldn't be able to handle the three-section staff effectively.
Now, seeing Fei Hu injure one of their own, the attackers retreated all at once. They switched their machetes to their left hands and pulled out guns from behind their waists, cocking them as they charged forward again. The situation escalated rapidly; both Fei Hu and Yingzi were momentarily stunned by how ruthless their opponents had become.
As Fei Hu saw them closing in, he swung his three-section staff in a wide arc. Unexpectedly, gunshots rang out simultaneously from several of the attackers' weapons. Bullets struck the concrete road in front of Fei Hu, creating deep craters—terrifying and deadly. This was Fei Hu's first experience being shot at, but it seemed that their intention was not to kill.
Faced with such danger, Fei Hu felt helpless despite his skills; he could only stand there frozen. He knew that if he didn’t comply, those bullets would not hit the ground but rather him. In an instant, the assailants rushed forward, pressing their guns against Fei Hu and Yingzi's heads and disarming them of their staffs. The man who had been struck in the neck by Fei Hu retaliated by swinging his machete down toward Fei Hu's neck.
It was over; this time he really was going to meet Yama King. Fei Hu closed his eyes and felt a sharp pain in his neck that quickly spread throughout his body and surged toward his brain. He felt as if a bomb had gone off in his head, causing him to lose all sensation.
Meanwhile, Ye Wu sat in the hall with his legs crossed, humming a tune while muttering curses under his breath: "That old fool still wants to play games with me? No way; your schemes are outdated."
Suddenly, Little Four walked in clutching his neck, followed by Abiao who was carrying a bag—the very bag that Yingzi had taken from here earlier.
Ye Wu laughed and said, "It's all taken care of, right? No traces left behind?"
"No, big brother. It's just that Little Four got caught with a three-section staff," Abiao replied, placing the bag on the tea table in front of Ye Wu.
Upon hearing this, Ye Wu Yi changed his expression, sat up straight, and nervously asked, "What happened? What nonsense about a three-section staff? Explain everything from the beginning."
Abiao then recounted the entire incident to Ye Wu in detail. After listening, Ye Hu frowned and muttered to himself, "It's that guy with the eye patch again. He caused trouble last time too."
"Big brother, this guy is too skilled. None of us can match him. We can only resort to underhanded tactics. But Little Four got his revenge today; with that knife wound, he’ll be out for at least ten days to half a month," Little Four said, grimacing as he touched his sore neck.
Ye Wu paced back and forth in the living room with his hands behind his back, shaking his head as he said, "You guys! You handle things so carelessly. When they came, they had a tail following them, and none of you noticed. If it weren't for those two gunshots, we wouldn't have gotten this money at all. Do you understand? If I hadn't made arrangements with Officer Xu, this route could have been sealed off at any time. With all that gunfire, didn't anyone come to ask what was going on? You guys are doing a terrible job; it really doesn't inspire confidence."
"Still, big brother is impressive. In A City, I don't think anyone can match your influence in both the underworld and the legitimate world. We need to learn from you," Abiao said with a grin.
Beside them, Little Four snorted disdainfully, clearly unimpressed and on the verge of calling them sycophants.
Ye Wu walked over to the tea table and said, "Regardless of anything else, it's good that we got this money back. It saves me from spending unnecessary funds. This stack here can be divided among Brothers. Work well with me; Brother Tiger won't shortchange anyone." Upon hearing this, Little Four and Abiao instantly brightened up; it was rare for Ye Wu to be so generous.
Ye Wu opened the bag and pulled out a stack of hundred-dollar bills. Suddenly, his hand froze in mid-air as his expression grew increasingly grim. Seeing this, Abiao and Little Four exchanged worried glances; they didn't know what had happened but were too afraid to ask.
"What the hell is going on with this money?" Ye Hu finally exploded, slamming the cash onto the tea table. Due to the force of his action, the rubber bands snapped open, sending bright red bills sliding off the table onto the floor—an enticing sight.
Ignoring their surroundings, Little Four and Abiao rushed over to look into the bag. They were instantly dumbfounded. They both stubbornly dumped everything out of the bag only to find that there were just two stacks of cash on top; underneath were several thick books and even half a roll of tissue paper.
Shaking with disbelief, Little Four and Abiao looked even worse than Ye Wu. Little Four whispered, "Brother Tiger, this money definitely isn't ours; we were played."
"What a bunch of fools! You wouldn't have had the guts even if I gave it to you," Ye Wu angrily turned his face away.
Abiao stepped forward lightly and said softly, “Brother Tiger, at that time, since Brothers were all shooting, and that guy with the mask was really skilled, when I opened the car door and saw the bag in Ye Xiaofei's arms, I just snatched it away. When I opened it and saw it was cash, I didn’t think much and pulled Little Four into the car. I was afraid they would call the police, so we sped away. I didn’t expect these people to be so damn cunning.”
“Forget it! It's a blessing that no one got killed. Consider this money as my donation to Dragon Tiger Gang. It’s getting late; you two hurry up and clean up. Don’t mess up tonight’s gathering again. If that happens, don’t blame Brother Tiger for being unkind,” Ye Wu said in a low voice, sounding eerie.
Inside Ye Cheng's villa, in Sister Wu's bedroom, the same group of people sat around the tea table. Ye Cheng was fuming with anger. He shouted, “You two really have guts! Ye Wu gave you cash, and you dared to take it. Do you know who he is? It’s a good thing no one got killed. If someone had died over this two hundred thousand, do you think it would be worth it? Not even two million would be worth it!” Ye Cheng grew angrier as he scolded.
Sister Wu quickly stood up, gently patting his back and said softly, “Big Brother, the kids had good intentions; they just wanted to deal with that guy and vent some frustration. As for money, even if we’re short on cash, we’re not lacking Ye Wu’s twenty thousand, right?”
Ye Xiaofei chuckled lightly and said, “Don’t be angry; at this moment, I believe Ye Wu is about to explode.”
“How can you still laugh? If it weren’t for Yingzi being clever and preparing in advance, wouldn’t you have ended up with nothing and been framed?” Ye Cheng gradually calmed down but shot an exasperated glance at Ye Xiaofei.
Yingzi remained silent; she was still worried about Fei Hu, who was lying in the hospital. Although the doctor said there was no major incident, she couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
“Yingzi, I really admire you. How did you know that Ye Wu would pull such tricks and even called for backup in advance?” Ye Xiaofei looked excited as if he had completely forgotten what had just happened.
Yingzi sighed and said, “First of all, when Ye Wu asked us to bring twenty thousand in cash, that raised a lot of suspicion. He even emphasized writing a receipt; that just added to the doubts. Secondly, when we were on our way back and suddenly hit a police checkpoint, wasn’t that obviously a sign something was going to happen? So I prepared the backup, and sure enough, my guess was right.”
Suddenly, Ye Cheng asked, “How is Fei Hu’s injury? We must take full responsibility for this; we can’t let him down this time. Xiaofei, give him half a month off immediately tomorrow. Sister Wu, go to the hospital tomorrow and make sure he gets his full payment. Also, his confidentiality must be handled well; Yingzi, you need to take care of that.”
“I thought of that already. I didn’t show up at the hospital; I had my friend take him there,” Yingzi quickly replied to Ye Cheng.
