"What? You say there are wolves? Are there really wolves here?" Ye Cheng was a bit panicked, his face looking very grim, clearly aware of the danger posed by wolves.
At that moment, several howls echoed in succession, not just one or two voices, but a pack of wolves howling, the sound getting closer and closer, sending chills down their spines. Ye Xiaofei squeezed closer to Ye Cheng in fear, while Yingzi hurriedly grabbed a machete nearby and came over, everyone appeared to be on high alert.
"Young Man, based on your experience, why have wolves suddenly appeared here? It seems we haven't noticed any wolves around for many days," Ye Cheng's voice was filled with confusion.
Fei Hu pondered for a moment and said, "In this kind of forest, it's normal to have wolves. However, the area we are in should be at the edge of the forest. For example, there aren't many Wild Rabbit Mountain Chickens around, which indicates that hunters are still active here, so there is no need for wolves to exist. The sudden appearance of a wolf pack likely means someone has disturbed their den or they have caught a whiff of blood in the area and are searching for food. One possibility is that they are collectively hunting for food; another possibility is that they have moved here to settle down." Fei Hu spoke confidently, though all this was knowledge passed down from his grandfather.
"Child, what do you think we should do? You have experience with this; we will follow your lead. I have encountered the ferocity of wolf packs before; they are no less dangerous than a group of assassins. If they decide to attack us, we would be no match for them," Ye Cheng said as he glanced at the moon that was about to set, clearly having learned a painful lesson from past experiences.
Fei Hu nodded and replied, "Naturally, I will be cautious. Although wolf packs are very fierce, as long as we don't actively provoke them, they generally won't harm us unless they are extremely hungry and cannot find food."
"Fei Hu, you really know your stuff! I'm impressed by your knowledge," Ye Xiaofei said while rubbing her eyes, looking like she had just woken up.
Fei Hu glanced at her and smiled, "What knowledge is this? It's just experience. I've lived in the Great Forest for twelve years; I followed my grandfather running around in the forest since I was two or three years old. I've frequently encountered wild hunting and wolves; I've even seen several large Bear Monsters. You get used to it after a while. It's like snakes; if you don't step on their tails, they won't attack you."
"Is that so? I thought wolves would bite as soon as they see people; that's why I was so scared," Ye Xiaofei slowly sat up straight after hearing Fei Hu's explanation. She truly was a pampered young lady; being so frightened by wolf howls showed how sheltered she had been. If she ever encountered one in person, who knows how terrified she would be.
Fei Hu called out to Yingzi outside the cave and lit several fires before returning inside to sleep. After a night of tossing and turning, he was tired. Meanwhile, Ye Cheng looked at this enigmatic Young Man with deep feelings of nostalgia; this kind of boldness reminded him of his own youth.
When the sun rose again, Fei Hu stretched lazily and sat up. Everyone inside the cave was awake; Yingzi and Ye Xiaofei were preparing breakfast, which consisted mainly of snacks—some bags of beef jerky and a few cans of beef that had already been consumed. Suddenly, a waft of roasted meat aroma drifted over. Fei Hu turned around and saw that half a wild boar was being roasted over one of the fires at the cave entrance.
Fei Hu suddenly stood up and shouted loudly, "Who is roasting this?" His expression was quite alarming.
Ye Xiaofei's face turned bright red immediately. She glared fiercely at Fei Hu and said, "Why are you being so fierce? I only thought there was nothing to eat this morning, so I decided to roast some wild boar for you all. How could you treat someone's good intentions like this?" Ye Xiaofei's face was filled with anger.
Fei Hu shook his head helplessly; it was his fault for not explaining clearly. He dashed over and kicked away the wooden rack holding the half boar before grabbing it with the intention of throwing it out. Just then he seemed to think of something else and suddenly pulled back his hand. Fei Hu's strange behavior left everyone puzzled, especially Ye Xiaofei; she believed he was doing this intentionally to make things difficult for her.
When this young lady's temper flares up, it can indeed be quite frightening. Ye Xiaofei picked up a charred branch from the ground, pointed it at Fei Hu, and shouted, "Do you think you're so great, feeling that we're dragging you down? Then just leave!"
As Ye Xiaofei yelled, she charged forward, pretending to hit Fei Hu. Unexpectedly, she stumbled and let out a scream as she fell to the ground. Fei Hu hadn’t realized that his casual movement had angered Ye Xiaofei. It suddenly dawned on him that Ye Xiaofei had twisted her ankle last night, and he had even said he would check on her. A person with limited mobility still managed to roast wild boar for everyone, which was quite commendable. He hadn’t expected his own reckless behavior to ruin that spirit, leaving him feeling somewhat embarrassed.
Ye Cheng was sitting at the cave entrance practicing his breathing exercises, a daily morning routine for him. The sudden commotion between Fei Hu and Ye Xiaofei disturbed the elderly man greatly. Yingzi looked on in shock; she had no idea what had transpired between the two. However, Ye Xiaofei's loud shout last night had startled her awake from her dreams. She had wanted to go out and check but seeing Ye Cheng turn over nonchalantly made her pretend to be asleep again.
"What happened to your foot? Why is it so swollen?" Ye Cheng asked with concern.
Ye Xiaofei cradled her foot and took a breath before saying, "I accidentally twisted it last night, and I didn't expect that just now..." It seemed that Ye Xiaofei was in considerable pain, beads of sweat forming on her forehead.
Seeing this, Fei Hu set aside any feelings of awkwardness and stepped forward. He squatted down and said to Ye Xiaofei, "Let me take a look."
"Get away! You don't need to bother; even if it hurts like hell, I won't let you see it," Ye Xiaofei angrily pushed Fei Hu away.
Fei Hu thought that this woman wouldn’t relent without some firm measures. He grabbed Ye Xiaofei's foot and held it in his arms while she kicked and struggled against him.
"Stop being stubborn! Let Fei Hu take a look; otherwise, if something urgent comes up later, how will you walk? That would just make things worse!" Ye Cheng suddenly interjected. His words were quite effective; Ye Xiaofei immediately quieted down.
Fei Hu removed the black stockings from Ye Xiaofei's foot and placed her delicate, fair foot on his knee. He began to feel around her ankle while thinking to himself that this beautiful woman was indeed different from others; despite being just a foot used for walking, hers felt so smooth and pleasant to touch.
"Hey! Are you even qualified to do this? Are you just taking advantage of me?" Ye Xiaofei said impatiently, raising her voice and showing no regard for Fei Hu.
However, Fei Hu had indeed lost focus earlier. After being scolded by Ye Xiaofei, he snapped back to reality and awkwardly told Ye Cheng, "Her joint is dislocated; it needs to be reset."
"Ah! What do we do now? In these Deep Mountains and Old Forests, where can we find a doctor?" Ye Cheng exclaimed anxiously as he paced back and forth. Yingzi also looked worried.
Fei Hu calmly replied, "Don't worry, old man. I learned this resetting technique from my grandfather before. However, Miss Ye will have to endure some pain; it will be over quickly."
Ye Cheng was overjoyed and quickly said, "That's great! Just tell us what we need to do."
"Yingzi, hold onto Miss Ye's leg tightly. Elder, you go over and support Miss Ye's body; she mustn't move around," Fei Hu instructed methodically, as if he were a doctor.
Ye Xiaofei shot a glare at Fei Hu and said, "Don't mess around. If you hurt me while pretending to know what you're doing, I'll be careful to hit you."
"Xiaofei, don't be rude. You've seen Fei Hu's skills before; just stay still," Ye Cheng said as he walked over and grasped his granddaughter's shoulders.
Yingzi knelt down, mimicking Fei Hu, and hugged Ye Xiaofei's leg tightly. Once everything was ready, Fei Hu grabbed Ye Xiaofei's foot and pulled it outward with force while pinching her ankle. With a sharp scream from her, Fei Hu quickly pushed down hard on the sole of Ye Xiaofei's foot, and with a loud crack from her joints, he clapped his hands and stood up.
Yingzi asked in surprise, "Is that it?"
"Let her take a couple of steps! It should be fine now," Fei Hu said confidently.
Ye Xiaofei looked at Fei Hu in disbelief. Cautiously, she stood up and gently placed her foot on the ground. One step, two steps—suddenly, Ye Xiaofei shouted, "It's good! It's really good!" The joy was comparable to Columbus discovering a new continent.
Just as everyone was filled with happiness over Fei Hu's miraculous technique, he suddenly raised his right hand and said softly, "Be quiet; they have arrived."
"What do you mean? Who has arrived?" Yingzi asked with a look of terror on her face.
"It's a pack of wolves; they caught the scent of the wild boar from earlier and have come," Fei Hu replied coldly.
