Sun Li giggled, swaying left and right, refusing to let Fei Hu get close to her. The more she dodged, the more eager Fei Hu became, and the two of them suddenly tangled together.
Suddenly, a young nurse pushed the door open and walked in. Upon seeing Fei Hu and Sun Li embracing each other affectionately, she shyly lowered her head and laughed. Seeing this, Sun Li pushed Fei Hu away with a slightly flushed face. She cleared her throat twice and asked the nurse, "What are you laughing at, Xiao Wang? Have you never seen anyone kiss? You seem to have a boyfriend now!"
The nurse looked up, glanced at Fei Hu, and smiled, "I’ve seen it! Just not you..."
"You little girl, what are you talking about? Mind your manners and just say what you need!" Sun Li suddenly interrupted the nurse with a serious expression.
The nurse stuck out her tongue, put away her smile, and said to Sun Li, "Vice Dean Wang has a major surgery at eleven o'clock. He needs your help. He said it was inconvenient to call, so he sent me to ask you in person."
"Got it, you can go!" Sun Li's tone was cold, clearly unhappy.
Once the nurse left, Sun Li started complaining to Fei Hu: "In such a big hospital, every time there's a major surgery, they call for me. I’m not even getting double pay for this. I really don’t want to do this anymore; it’s exhausting day and night."
What Sun Li said was indeed true. Working day shifts and night shifts as a nurse was not as easy as imagined. Looking at the displeased Sun Li, Fei Hu smiled and said, "Just keep at it! Once I make a lot of money, I'll support you; you can quit this job if you want."
Sun Li laughed upon hearing this. She replied playfully, "Get lost! Stop trying to sweet-talk me. By the time you can support me, I might only be able to be your concubine. You have quite the ambition; I see that now."
"Hahaha! Look at what you're saying! I'm not some rich master or anything. At least I’d get you a side room; what’s it called? Oh! Even if you're the youngest, you'd still be a secondary wife," Fei Hu said joyfully.
Upon hearing this, Sun Li's expression changed. She punched Fei Hu on the shoulder and scolded him, "You jerk! You're all the same; do you also want three wives and four concubines? Let me tell you my principle: I won’t marry in this lifetime. Don’t talk about side rooms; even if it's the main room, I wouldn’t accept it!"
"Come on! It was just a joke; is it that serious?" Fei Hu shrugged and gently patted Sun Li's back twice. "I was just kidding, dear. Do I have that capability? In this lifetime, I will only marry you." Fei Hu didn’t realize how sweet his words were tonight; perhaps it was because he had been watching too many romantic dramas with Fat Girl lately!
Sun Li pouted and said softly, "I'm not joking. I really don't want to get married in this lifetime. It's not that I have any opinions about you; I truly don't. This is just how I choose to live my life, please understand."
Seeing Sun Li's serious expression, Fei Hu secretly cursed in his heart. This woman might be a bit unwell in her mind. What does she mean by never getting married? She might as well become a nun to save me from my infatuation with her.
Neither of them expected their conversation to drift toward marriage. In fact, Fei Hu had only mentioned it casually; he hadn't really thought about marriage at all. It was a bit too profound for him, and he didn't dare to ponder it further.
As it approached eleven o'clock, Sun Li had to go to the operating room, so she bid farewell to Fei Hu. Although their chat hadn't been particularly joyful, just before Fei Hu was about to leave, Sun Li said to him, "Next month on this day is my birthday. I hope you can come; I want to celebrate it with just you." Her words made Fei Hu's blood rush, and all the earlier discomfort vanished.
When Fei Hu returned to his place, it was almost one o'clock. Since he had missed the last bus, he reluctantly took a taxi, which cost him over fifty yuan. Lying in bed, he couldn't fall asleep for a long time. Tonight, when Sun Li mentioned her birthday, he realized that he wasn't getting any younger; after this year, he would be twenty-six. A twenty-six-year-old still single seemed unacceptable; it looked like he needed to make some progress.
Ye Xiaofei arrived at the office early the next morning because yesterday she had inadvertently seen an entry in an old ledger from two years ago that showed an expenditure of over two million without any details. It puzzled her greatly. According to her analysis, this amount might have been privately borrowed by Ye Wei, and the finance department had recorded a vague expenditure for reconciliation purposes.
Ye Xiaofei was distressed; she knew there was a problem but couldn't produce any solid evidence.
She had been at Sheng Wei for a few days now, but she had only met her uncle twice: once when she reported for duty and visited his office, and another time when they bumped into each other in the elevator and exchanged nods. Other than that, she hadn't seen him at all. Since he hadn't come to see her, why not take the initiative to find him? Perhaps there would be unexpected gains.
Thinking of this, Ye Xiaofei glanced at her watch; it was eight thirty-five. He should be at work by now. She went to the door of the chairman's office on the 28th floor and was about to knock when she noticed the door was slightly ajar. Peeking through the gap, she saw that the cleaner had just finished tidying up and was walking out with a broom.
"Good morning, Miss Ye," the cleaner greeted her politely with a nod.
Ye Xiaofei nodded back and leaned in to look inside but didn't see Ye Wei. So she asked the cleaner, "Where did the chairman go?"
"Oh, he just left; it seems he went to Vice President Wang's office," the cleaner replied before taking her tools and leaving.
Ye Xiaofei closed the door and prepared to sit on the sofa to wait for Ye Wei. Suddenly, she noticed through the reflection on the glass window that Ye Wei's computer was still on, displaying an office document. Her heart raced; this was a rare opportunity that could not be missed.
Ye Xiaofei perked up her ears and listened. The hallway was very quiet, with no footsteps. She immediately walked over, and just then, the computer's screen saver activated, causing it to go dark. In that instant, Ye Xiaofei quickly pressed a key on the keyboard, managing to bring the screen back to the Word document.
Ye Xiaofei scrolled through the document rapidly but realized it was too slow and there was too much data stored on the computer. Searching like this could take all day without any guarantee of finding what she needed. She quickly thought of entering "personal data" in the search bar. The computer, being a high-tech device, instantly produced a folder named "Personal Data." Ye Xiaofei's heart raced; time was running out, and she decided to copy the entire folder over before taking her time with it later. However, she had not brought a portable hard drive.
Sending an email was also not an option; it would be too slow and easily discovered. Ye Xiaofei was almost jumping with anxiety when suddenly she thought of copying it to the company shared drive and then cutting it over at her own workstation. This method seemed best. With that in mind, Ye Xiaofei quickly got to work, clicking the mouse to copy the data. Thankfully, she hadn’t sent an email; even copying within the internal server took over a minute, indicating just how large that folder was.
As she saw the last second tick away, Ye Xiaofei swiftly cleared her usage traces and left the computer. Noticing that Ye Wei had not returned yet, she closed the door quietly and walked back. As she passed Wang Qian's office door, she faintly heard Ye Wei and Wang Qian laughing boisterously.
Almost running back, Ye Xiaofei quickly opened her computer and found the data she had just copied from the company shared folder. She immediately cut it over to her own computer. As the Executive President, she had the authority to do so without any issues.
This trip had been worth it. Although spying on someone else's computer—especially personal data—was somewhat unethical, it was a desperate measure for her. Ye Xiaofei opened each folder one by one but found nothing of value after reviewing all of them. She felt a bit disappointed; perhaps what she sought wasn’t in there after all. Doubts began to creep in about the usefulness of this personal data folder; maybe it was just a smokescreen set up by Ye Wei.
However, it didn’t quite add up because there wasn’t much in the folder—just some travel photos and a company reform proposal written by Ye Wei. Yet why did it show that it occupied 4.2 GB of space? Suddenly, Ye Xiaofei realized that Ye Wei must have hidden important documents within it. Excited by this thought, she stood up and paced around her office.
Sure enough, Ye Wei had set the documents to be hidden. Once Ye Xiaofei unhid them, she gasped as an internal financial summary from previous years appeared before her eyes. Looking at line after line of red figures indicating expenditures made her furious; this Ye Wei had siphoned off company funds over the years—no wonder the company had been losing money year after year.
After a rough calculation, she found over ten million in unclear accounts. It seemed that Ye Wei had deliberately instructed finance to do this to cover his tracks. How could he expect people not to find out unless he himself did nothing? Ye Xiaofei cursed inwardly.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door, followed by Ye Wei walking in. Upon seeing him, Ye Xiaofei's heart leaped into her throat—had he discovered what had just happened?
