The morning sun had not yet shown its face, and the sky was a golden hue. Ye Cheng practiced a set of punches in the yard of his villa, feeling completely relaxed. He couldn't help but glance back at the villa's main door, remembering that his old friend A Long's granddaughter was supposed to arrive today. He wondered when she would come. Ah! Getting old makes it hard to remember things clearly; Ye Cheng started to chuckle at his old friend's forgetfulness.
"Big Brother, it's cool this morning. You should put on a jacket, or you'll catch a cold," Sister Wu said as she draped a piece of clothing over Ye Cheng's shoulders.
Ye Cheng looked at Sister Wu and smiled, "It seems I can't deny my age anymore! You’ve walked right up behind me, and I didn’t even notice. My awareness from my younger days has completely faded; given the current situation, that's quite alarming."
"Haha, Big Brother, you're over seventy now! If you were still like you were when you were young, wouldn't that make you a god?" Sister Wu chuckled lightly.
Ye Cheng gestured for Sister Wu to sit on a stone bench in the yard and sighed helplessly, saying, "Time flows like water; before you know it, you've aged. Look at my friend A Long; he called last night just to tell me that his granddaughter Yingzi would arrive in A City today. He didn't mention what time or which train she was taking at all. I was so happy that I forgot to ask. Just look at us; have we both become muddled in our old age?"
Sister Wu smiled and replied, "Big Brother is joking. Yes, you've aged a bit, but if you're confused, then hardly anyone in this world is clear-headed."
Just as Ye Cheng and Sister Wu were joking around, the doorbell suddenly rang. Sister Wu hurriedly got up and walked toward the gate. Ye Cheng shook his head with an unhappy expression; it was already late morning, and although he was up early, the three maids had shown no signs of waking up. Wasn't that a bit unreasonable?
After a while, Sister Wu led in a young woman with a shoulder bag. She had ear-length short hair and was dressed in a clean white Mizuno tracksuit, paired with spotless high-top Converse sneakers. Upon seeing Ye Cheng, she paused for a moment before her bright eyes sparkled as she exclaimed, "You must be Grandpa Ye!"
Hearing this, Ye Cheng stood up excitedly. He pointed at the young woman and laughed, "Hahaha! You must be A Long's granddaughter Yingzi! Oh my! What a remarkable young lady! A Long is truly blessed!"
The young woman smiled and said, "Grandpa Ye is too kind; I'm not as great as you say. If I do anything wrong in the future, please feel free to correct me."
"Ah! We're family now; there's no need for formalities like calling me Grandpa Ye. Just call me Grandpa directly; it feels awkward otherwise. But if you misbehave, I will discipline you just like your grandfather would," Ye Cheng said while making a playful gesture.
Seeing this, Sister Wu quickly chimed in with a smile, "Let's go inside and talk; the girl just got off the car and should freshen up."
"Alright, let's head inside," Ye Cheng said as he took Yingzi's hand. The group chatted and laughed as they returned to the villa.
At that moment, the three maids finally got out of bed. One of them, a young woman in her twenties with a charming face, walked over while saying, "What's all the noise about early in the morning?"
Unfortunately for her, her words were overheard by Ye Cheng. He turned around with a smile and asked, "What’s wrong, Xiaojun? Are you saying I disturbed you? If so, why don’t you tidy up and go home to enjoy your peace?"
The other two maids were so frightened by this that they vanished from sight. However, Xiaojun did not seem too nervous; instead, she quietly asked Ye Cheng, "Are you still holding a grudge against me for what happened that day? I haven’t told anyone."
Upon hearing this, Ye Cheng let out a cold snort and turned to enter the living room.
After washing up and changing clothes, Yingzi appeared in a different light, wearing a white shirt tucked into blue jeans, looking exceptionally graceful and beautiful. Ye Cheng shook his head and smiled, saying, "The young man looks quite spirited. I wonder what my Xiaofei has turned into now." The old man missed his granddaughter dearly; in fact, they had video chatted not long ago.
Sister Wu smiled and said, "It won’t be long now; in just over a week, she’ll be right here with you."
Yingzi quietly asked, "Grandpa, what’s the situation now? I’d like to understand first."
"There's no rush! You eat breakfast first. Afterward, we can talk in my study," Ye Cheng replied while glancing unnaturally toward the living room. Sister Wu noticed everything clearly.
"Xiaojun, after breakfast, you and Aunt Zhang go to the garden to pull weeds. Leave Aunt Wang alone to clean the kitchen. No need to clean any rooms today; when I go into the garden this afternoon, I don’t want to see any overgrown weeds," Sister Wu instructed the three maids who were sitting in the corner of the dining room having breakfast.
Ye Cheng appreciated Sister Wu's attentiveness and couldn't help but nod slightly.
In Ye Cheng's spacious study, the three of them sat around the desk. After Sister Wu closed all the doors and windows and turned on the air conditioning, she smiled and said, "Alright, you can talk now!"
Yingzi then realized that things were more serious than she had imagined. Even discussing matters at home required such caution; it seemed Old Master Ye's safety should not be taken lightly.
Ye Cheng took a sip of tea and pondered for a moment before saying, "Yingzi, you should register at Shengwei Group under a false name for cover. Then we can privately do what we need to do."
"Is that easy to manage? What identity will I use to enter Shengwei? Also, if I go in but don’t show up for work every day, won’t that raise suspicions? We need to consider these things carefully," Yingzi was indeed meticulous in her thoughts. It seemed A Long wasn't exaggerating; this granddaughter was truly exceptional. Ye Cheng nodded and smiled knowingly.
Sister Wu poured a cup of water for Yingzi and gently said, "The elder brother has already thought of this. He holds a nominal position in Sheng Wei as the group's chief advisor. He probably hasn't been there even once in the past three hundred sixty-five days. Now this position will be taken over by you; just go occasionally, and no one will say anything about it. The elder brother discussed this with Ye Wei over the phone the day before yesterday, and he agreed."
Yingzi nodded. It seemed that the Ye Cheng, whom her grandfather referred to as elder brother, was indeed not just a name. Even at over seventy years old, he still handled matters with such discretion. She thought for a moment and asked, "Grandpa, could you tell me about the general process of this matter? I want to understand."
"Ah! Here's how it is: Our Dragon Tiger Gang has nearly a thousand members in City A, with people in almost every industry. Especially in the past two years, we've expanded significantly; all kinds of people have joined, making us a true gang. About seventy percent of our members work in entertainment venues, which is quite chaotic. Prostitution, gambling, and drugs have always existed. The police have made multiple arrests, and occasionally some of our people get caught. I don't want Dragon Tiger Gang to be ruined on my watch..." Ye Cheng became agitated and started coughing violently.
Sister Wu quickly got up and patted Ye Cheng's back with a concerned expression.
After taking a sip of tea to stabilize his emotions, Ye Cheng continued, "Now we live in a society governed by law that cannot tolerate these things. Therefore, I want to withdraw everyone involved in the entertainment industry and have them work in factories or companies instead. However, I faced strong opposition from my two sons; they believe this would weaken their power base and more importantly affect their economic interests. Even more outrageous is that they tried to poison me. Fortunately, a kind Young Man saved me."
"What? They even tried to poison you? That's outrageous! Who did it? Did they do it themselves or send someone?" Yingzi slammed the table and nearly jumped up; it seemed she was truly furious.
"Well! If they had come openly, it wouldn't have mattered much. They tampered with my Fast-Acting Heart Rescue Pill and nearly caused my death." At this point, Ye Cheng's face was filled with anger.
Yingzi hadn't expected that such a prominent figure as Old Master Ye would have sons so treacherous and malicious. Such methods were truly appalling; it seemed this matter was not so simple.
Ye Cheng calmed himself down and said, "Next, we must first find the Young Man who saved me; he still has one pill left, which is the most convincing evidence. Moreover, these beasts want to silence him; his situation is currently very dangerous. I'm old now and can't drag him down with me; that would be sinful."
"Grandpa, don't worry. I'll report to the company this afternoon and start investigating this matter tomorrow. However, this Young Man should not have been found yet!" Yingzi couldn't help but ask.
"No, I have my informants; these guys have turned City A upside down." Ye Cheng replied confidently.
