In the hospital, the elderly man saved by Fei Hu lay on the bed, his mouth connected to a respirator, indicating that danger had not yet passed. A woman in her forties was gently wiping the back of his hand. She had a delicate and fair complexion, smooth skin, and slender, rounded fingers, clearly not someone from an ordinary family.
Suddenly, the door to the ward was pushed open. It was another man with scars and yellow hair. He cautiously glanced at the elderly man on the bed, who had his eyes tightly shut, and then quietly asked, "Sister Wu, have you washed the clothes that Big Brother changed out of?"
"Hey! Little Four, now that you're hanging out with the Second Young Master, your tone has changed too. Do you really think you need to manage whether Big Brother's clothes are washed?" The woman called Sister Wu replied somewhat displeased.
Scarred Face Little Four quickly smiled and said, "Sister Wu is joking. How could I, just a runner, compare myself to Sister Wu?" This guy was quick with his words and even quicker to escape; he darted into the bathroom of the ward and closed the door. Once inside, he looked around and noticed that the elderly man's clothes were not washed but instead placed in a face box in the corner. Little Four couldn't help but feel pleased and hurried over to search through them. He felt every inch from the collar to the pant legs with his hands, but still couldn't find what he was looking for.
It seemed that Boss was indeed Boss; her guess was spot on. The pills were truly on that brat. It appeared that until they caught him, this task would not be completed. However, Little Four found it hard to understand why Boss wanted them to eliminate that brat once they found the pills. Wasn't that a bit too ruthless? Although he was a small character in Dragon Tiger Gang, he had never engaged in murder or robbery. But thinking about the generous reward Boss promised him made Little Four's heart waver.
The saying "People die for wealth; birds die for food" was indeed true. Just as Little Four was plotting in the bathroom about the task Boss assigned him, Sister Wu suddenly knocked on the door from outside and shouted, "Little Four, you little rascal! Have you fallen in there? I need to use the restroom; get out quickly!"
Little Four snapped back to reality and opened the bathroom door, stepping out without even greeting Sister Wu. He dashed out of the room, prompting Sister Wu to angrily curse, "What kind of nonsense is this? Sneaking around like a ghost; you must be up to no good."
Sister Wu glanced at the elderly man on the bed and shook her head helplessly, feeling a pang of sadness in her heart. She thought about how people raise children to fend for them in old age, but where were this old man's two sons?
Suddenly, the elderly man tapped on the bed with his hand and pointed at the tube of the respirator. Sister Wu understood his meaning and quickly got up to remove the plastic tube from his nostrils. The elderly man weakly said, "Sister Wu, you mustn't let Ye Wei and Ye Wu know about my hospitalization."
Sister Wu wiped her eyes and replied, "Big Brother, just focus on recovering! I'll listen to you. But I don't quite understand your reasoning. You've spent your whole life fighting; hasn't it been hard to reach this point? Your eldest son Ye Wei is a well-known chairman of Shengwei Group in the city, and your second son Ye Wu is second-in-command of Dragon Tiger Gang. With such capable sons, why don’t you want them to know when you're injured? What’s the point of raising them?"
The elderly man's eyelids fluttered slightly as he said, "Sister Wu, there are some things you don't know; I'll explain later." Sister Wu nodded and noticed that his breathing became difficult again. She immediately stood up and reinserted the respirator tube into his nostrils.
The ward door was pushed open again. Sister Wu thought it was a nurse coming for rounds and didn’t move. Suddenly, a sinister voice came from behind her: "Sister Wu, what do you mean by this? The old man is injured, yet you didn't inform us brothers? Do you want to become Big Brother of Dragon Tiger Gang too?"
Sister Wu was startled and hurriedly stood up. Behind her stood a middle-aged man, around forty-seven or forty-eight years old, with a somewhat thin frame and shifty eyes. He was well-dressed, and behind him were four young men with yellow hair, one of whom was Little Four. Given the situation, this person seemed to have considerable influence.
Sister Wu took a moment to compose herself, raised her eyebrows, and said, "Third Young Master, you are exaggerating. The position of the leader of the Dragon Tiger Gang is not something anyone can just take. You know this better than I do. Once the leader recovers from his injuries, we can discuss what you said today in front of him."
"Haha, Sister Wu, you really took me seriously. I, Ye Wu, was just joking with you. How is the old man doing now?" Ye Wu said as he walked over to look at the elderly man on the bed. The old man still had his eyes tightly closed, and Sister Wu ignored Ye Wu's question.
"Little Four, you useless bunch can't even catch a country bumpkin. Our leader from the Dragon Tiger Gang has been reduced to this state; if word gets out, how will we show our faces in A City?" Ye Wu suddenly exploded at Little Four and his group.
Little Four and the others hurriedly lowered their heads and fawned over him with fearful expressions. Seeing that the old man did not open his eyes and that Sister Wu was not paying him much attention either, Ye Wu threw his hands up in frustration and stormed out with the few young men.
The conversation inside the room was overheard by two male doctors who were about to enter for a check-up. One of the older doctors whispered, "Oh my God, could this old man be the legendary leader of the Dragon Tiger Gang in A City, Ye Cheng?"
The younger doctor replied in shock, "His name on the medical record is indeed Ye Cheng."
After the doctors finished their examination and left the ward, the elderly man on the bed finally opened his eyes. Sister Wu hurriedly leaned in to listen as he softly said, "You need to notify Xiaofei to come back from America quickly; these two brutes might have some big plans. Alas! It's a pity about that young man who saved me." Ye Cheng looked quite unwell and appeared helpless as Sister Wu nodded vigorously.
The sun blazed down on the room, making it hot. Fei Hu finally sat up. Having lost his job, he had been chased away for several blocks; he regretted saving this old man. Who exactly was he? Were the pills he entrusted to him some kind of elixir? And what kind of background did those pursuing him have to be so ruthless? Fei Hu's head felt like it was about to explode from all these thoughts.
"Long Hair, the water is boiling; hurry up and make instant noodles! If it runs out later, I won't bother with you," came the voice of Fat Girl from the small shop. This girl was around twenty-one or twenty-two years old; she was fairly good-looking but slightly overweight. She was much better off than her parents, especially in how she cared for Fei Hu.
Fei Hu quickly responded from his bed, got up to wash up a bit, and then headed towards the small shop.
This place was a residential area that had not yet been demolished—low and crowded. The locals had all moved into high-rises while some rented out large portions of these houses to outsiders like Fei Hu who were short on cash. Fat Girl's parents specialized in this business.
At this time of day, most people were at work, so there weren't many customers in the small shop; only Fat Girl sat behind the counter watching a Korean drama and occasionally chuckling softly.
Fei Hu walked in and sat down on the bench in front of the counter. Fat Girl glanced at him, smiled, and stood up, placing a box of instant noodles on the counter, saying, "Eating this every day, your body can handle it."
"Hey! Isn't that quite supportive? What can't young people handle? Back in the day, the Red Army ate tree bark and grass roots, and they still succeeded in their revolution," Fei Hu joked as he patted his broad chest.
Fat Girl rolled her eyes at him and said, "Cut it out with that. How can you even mention the Red Army? Just look at yourself now; you have no idea how high your return rate would be if you walked down the street."
Fei Hu had followed his grandfather around the Great Forest since he was young. Due to lack of conditions, he only got his hair cut when it grew long. Over time, he developed a habit of keeping long hair. As a big man who wasn't an artist, having long hair in such hot weather did seem a bit out of place.
Fei Hu didn't care about that. While pouring hot water into the box of noodles, he laughed and said, "A high return rate is a good thing; it makes finding a wife much easier."
"Who would want to be your wife?" Fat Girl laughed as she bent down to search for something behind the counter.
As Fei Hu finished preparing his noodles and turned around, his eyes froze. It turned out that Fat Girl was wearing a short skirt today. When she bent down, her skirt lifted, revealing her round bottom covered by white silky panties that hugged her full curves. Seeing this made Fei Hu's blood rush, nearly causing him to drool.
When Fat Girl turned back and saw Fei Hu's lewd gaze, she realized her exposure and hurriedly pulled down her skirt with her left hand. Then she tapped him on the head with two sausages in her right hand and said, "You have problems even eating; you're so lewd. I'll give you these two sausages for free." In fact, Fei Hu had taken advantage of Fat Girl quite a bit; after all, she was a businesswoman who only cared about profit.
Fei Hu chuckled and said, "Food and lust are human nature; who told you to be so charming?" As he spoke, his hand unconsciously reached for the sausages in Fat Girl's hand.
Fat Girl suddenly pulled her hand back and made a face at Fei Hu, saying, "Then go indulge in food and lust!"
Fei Hu's hand hung in mid-air for a moment before reluctantly retracting it. Can lust really be indulged?
