It has been a full year since entering the Cloud Palace, and this time everyone is descending the mountain for the first time. They are filled with curiosity about everything around them. From one end of the street to the other, there are disciples of the Cloud Palace dressed in white robes adorned with the Cloud Palace emblem.
"Wow, look at this, Junior Brother Xiao! This must be the new style released this year, such an exquisite dead leaf butterfly bracelet."
"Let me see. It really does look like the dead leaf butterfly in this Jade Bracelet is still alive, as if it has been sealed in with some kind of magic."
"Really? Bring it closer; I want to take a closer look." Li Shiyu took the Jade Bracelet from Xiao Ming's hands and held it up to the sunlight. Inside the translucent green jade was a gray-brown butterfly that seemed to gently flap its wings, almost like a living creature.
"This seems to be a common trick found in folk art, using magic to seal insects into ornaments for people to admire and play with. There's nothing particularly special about it," Li Shiyu said as she handed the Jade Bracelet back to Xiao Ming.
Xiao Ming brought the Jade Bracelet close to his eyes and exclaimed, "I think it looks really nice!"
Li Shiyu glanced ahead at a vendor and nudged Xiao Ming, saying, "There are even prettier things up ahead. Junior Brother Xiao, let's go check them out!"
Upon hearing this, Xiao Ming put down the bracelet and linked arms with Li Shiyu as they headed towards the shop in front.
Just as the two turned to leave, another figure in a white robe appeared at the stall.
Several hours later, everyone had gathered together. Xiao Ming, Li Shiyu, Lin Zimo, Xu Shaoyang, Zhong Changyan, Mo Xiaoyan, and Qi Zhige arrived at the designated location to discuss their next plans.
According to the rules following the Cloud Palace martial arts competition, only the top twenty-eight can descend the mountain to complete their trial tasks and officially become disciples of the Cloud Palace.
Based on this competition's ranking order, only the top four can choose their teammates, and this time, Zhong Changyan was ranked first.
Following the logic of selecting candidates, choosing my cousin Mo Xiaoyan is a given. Choosing Qi Zhige reflects brotherly affection, selecting Xu Shaoyang is a wise move, and picking Li Shiyu is what a man would do. Choosing him affirms his strength to enter the top eight, but what does Zhong Changyan think about this choice?
Looking over at a nearby table where Li Shiyu and Xiao Ming were discussing the latest clothing styles, Lin Zimo felt a pang of frustration. Could he really be compared to Xiao Ming, who was not even fourteen? Watching the two of them laughing and joking, Lin Zimo's calm facade masked his growing irritation.
"Thank you all for coming upon receiving the invitation. The purpose of gathering everyone today is to discuss the upcoming trial task, and I hope you can plan accordingly," said a voice.
Descending slowly from the stairs of the inn was a figure holding a long sword, dressed in the white robe of a Cloud Palace trial disciple, with a purple headband unique to the the Zhong Family wrapped around his hair.
The man was handsome in white, standing tall like a pine tree, exuding warmth like jade. It was none other than Zhong Changyan, the legitimate son of the the Zhong Family.
Seeing him, Qi Zhige clasped his fists and said, "Brother Zhong, you are too modest. You are at the top of the rankings for this Cloud Palace competition; being chosen by you is our fortune. We are eager to know how you plan to arrange the upcoming Cloud Palace trial."
Before Zhong Changyan could respond, Mo Xiaoyan leaped out from behind him and said, "This time, my cousin also wants to discuss his plans with everyone first. After all, each of us has different tasks, and I hope everyone can contribute some good ideas."
Zhong Changyan smiled helplessly and stood among them, saying, "The names I wrote down were based on various considerations. Each of you possesses exceptional qualities; however, considering this group task we have to descend the mountain for—catching one hundred monsters in just three months—this is undoubtedly wishful thinking."
Sitting at the nearby table, Xu Shaoyang finally couldn't hold back and said, "Yeah, isn't this putting us in a difficult position? Even if we catch one monster a day for three months, we still won't make it! Should I just go back home and catch the monsters raised in my backyard to make up the numbers?"
"Exactly! Where are we supposed to find so many monsters?" Qi Zhige said with a headache as he poured himself a glass of water and drank it all in one go.
Seeing everyone's spirits low, Li Shiyu stood up and said, "Everyone need not panic; I have an idea."
Hearing this, everyone looked up at Li Shiyu.
Zhong Changyan said urgently, "I don't know what to do. Please, Miss Li, tell us."
Li Shiyu smiled slightly and replied calmly, "With such a number of demons, even an elder from Cloud Palace would find it difficult to complete the task within a month. The task only states to capture one hundred demons, but it never specifies where to catch them. As Young Master Xu mentioned earlier, capturing them in one's own backyard is also acceptable and does not violate any rules."
Qi Zhige interjected, "It's true that he has a few demons at home, but not nearly enough to meet that quantity."
Xu Shaoyang quickly added, "Yes, yes! Miss Li, I do have a few at home that could count, but it's far from the required number."
Hearing this, Mo Xiaoyan also chimed in, "Even if my the Mo Family and the Zhong Family contribute a few, we still wouldn't reach that number. Sister Li, your plan might not work."
As the conversation reached this point, Zhong Changyan and the others frowned in deep thought.
