I put down the sunflower seeds in my hand, slowly stood up from the recliner, and walked in front of the man, squatting down. His face was pale, cold sweat soaked through his shirt, and his eyes were blankly staring at the ceiling, still mumbling to himself.
I sighed feignedly with pity and gently patted his shoulder: "It seems you've been cursed lately; this Urn is not something you can just buy anywhere."
The man seemed to be suddenly awakened, jerking his head up and looking at me in terror. I saw that his eyes were bloodshot, and his eye sockets were sunken, as if he hadn't rested properly for a long time.
I withdrew my hand and lightly tapped his forehead. He trembled all over as if electrocuted, his expression growing even more fearful.
A mysterious smile crept onto my lips as I continued, "However, I can help you solve this problem, but it won't come cheap."
The man grasped my hand desperately as if clinging to a lifeline, speaking incoherently: "How much... anything will do... please... save me..."
I gently pulled my hand back, stood up, and took out a piece of yellow talisman paper from under the counter, chanting incantations. As I recited my spell, the talisman ignited without fire, transforming into a golden light that drilled into the man's body.
The man immediately felt a sense of relief, exhaling deeply and collapsing weakly onto the ground. I clapped my hands and returned the expensive Urn to its place.
The man looked at my actions with confusion: "What... is this?"
I glanced at him with an air of profundity and said, "This Urn has another purpose; come back tomorrow to collect it." With that, I ignored him further, turning back to the recliner to continue munching on my sunflower seeds.
The man paused for a moment as if wanting to say something more but ultimately said nothing and stumbled out of the Funeral Home.
I watched his retreating figure with a barely noticeable cold smile on my lips.
====================
After a moment, I chuckled softly and spat the sunflower seed shells onto the ground: "What's this? Back so soon to patronize my business?"
The man fidgeted nervously, rubbing his hands together, his gaze evasive. "I... I came to get the Urn."
"The Urn? Are you sure you want that?" I deliberately elongated my tone, a hint of mockery in my voice as I observed his reaction.
Upon hearing my words, the man visibly trembled. He took a deep breath, seemingly trying to control his emotions, and said softly, "My... my sister... she needs one too..."
I set down the sunflower seeds in my hand and looked at him with interest. "Oh? It seems like you've been going through a rough time lately."
The man forced a bitter smile, a flash of sadness crossing his eyes. "My sister... she passed away."
"Passed away?" I feigned surprise, raising an eyebrow. "How did she die?"
The man hesitated for a moment, seemingly torn about whether to tell me. Not wanting to rush him, I simply waited quietly for his answer.
He took a deep breath, as if making up his mind. "My sister... she was cursed to death."
"Cursed?" I repeated in feigned astonishment, standing up and walking in front of him to scrutinize his face closely. "What kind of curse?"
Feeling uncomfortable under my gaze, the man took a small step back, avoiding my eyes. "I... I don't know. I just know that like the person who died before her, it was because... because..."
"Because of what?" I pressed.
"Because of a jade pendant!" The man seemed to finally resolve himself, abruptly raising his head, bloodshot eyes filled with emotion as he spoke excitedly. "They both wore identical jade pendants!"
Watching his agitated expression stirred something within me, and memories of the panicked man from yesterday surfaced in my mind, along with the jade pendant that faintly showed around his neck.
"Jade pendant?" I feigned confusion and asked, "What jade pendant?"
The man pulled a white jade pendant from his pocket and handed it to me. "It's this jade pendant! My sister said this pendant was a token of love given to her by her boyfriend, but ever since she started wearing it..."
I took the pendant, feeling its coldness, and a strange aura emanated from it. I silently thought to myself, "Just as I suspected."
"This pendant has a problem," I returned the pendant to the man, speaking in a serious tone.
He took the pendant back, his expression growing even darker. "I knew it... I knew there was something wrong with this pendant! But... but my sister..."
He choked up, unable to continue.
I patted his shoulder and comforted him, "My condolences."
The man looked up, hope filling his eyes. "Can you... can you save my sister?"
Seeing the hopeful look in his eyes, I sighed inwardly; indeed, I was still soft-hearted.
