Bing Tianyi shook his head and smiled, saying, "No, I just want you to check and see who this person is, his home address, and what his family does."
Duck Brother, hearing this, forced a smile and replied, "Brother Bing, are you joking? I don't even have a photo of this person. How can I check his identity?"
Bing Tianyi was also at a loss for words. After Duck Brother finished speaking, he curiously asked, "I mean, Duck Brother, don't you know to look for Hu Qin?"
This remark seemed to awaken Duck Brother from a dream. Upon hearing it, he suddenly realized and quickly smiled at Bing Tianyi, saying, "You're right, big brother! I'll go do that now."
Bing Tianyi smiled and waved at Duck Brother as he got up to leave, saying, "Remember to keep it confidential."
Duck Brother nodded and hurried out.
Old Huang sat on the sofa and casually took out a book from his pocket to read. Seeing this, Bing Tianyi couldn't help but ask with a wry smile, "Old Huang, how can you still be in the mood to read at a time like this?"
Old Huang replied calmly with a smile, "What's wrong? Do you want me to come up with strategies for you? I don't have that ability."
Bing Tianyi was speechless. He thought Old Huang should at least offer some ideas given the situation, but he didn't expect Old Huang to have such an attitude. However, he had no choice; after all, Old Huang was just a driver and part-time bodyguard under him.
Time passed quickly, and soon it was past seven in the evening. Old Huang came in with two takeout dinners. After entering, he placed one on the table and said softly to Bing Tianyi, "You should eat something first."
Bing Tianyi nodded and thanked him. He picked up the food container on the table and opened it, only to be stunned.
"Where did you buy this from? Is this even fit for human consumption?" Bing Tianyi looked at the white rice in the container along with the blackened stir-fried eggplant. Most importantly, there was a foul smell coming from the rice as he directly asked Old Huang.
Old Huang maintained a serious expression and didn't say much. He handed his own lunch box to Bing Tianyi.
Upon opening it, Bing Tianyi found that this lunch box was vastly different from the one he had just seen. A fragrant aroma of white rice immediately wafted into Bing Tianyi's nostrils, accompanied by the rich scent of spicy stir-fried meat that made him feel quite hungry.
"This isn't bad, is it?" Bing Tianyi said with a smile as he picked up his lunch box and started eating.
Just as Bing Tianyi was about to swallow, Old Huang picked up the lunch box that Bing Tianyi had placed on the table, sighed, and began to eat.
Seeing this, Bing Tianyi was taken aback again. He quickly put down his lunch box and stood up to ask Old Huang, "Old Huang, what are you doing? Can you eat this lunch box?"
Old Huang looked up, swallowed the already spoiled rice in his mouth, and said softly to Bing Tianyi, "We are just laborers, so of course we can only eat this kind of food."
Upon hearing this, Bing Tianyi immediately furrowed his brows. He could naturally understand the implication behind Old Huang's words.
"What’s going on?" Bing Tianyi asked clearly after throwing down his lunch box.
Old Huang sighed and said quietly, "These two lunch boxes were taken from the Company Canteen and the Construction Site."
Upon hearing this, Bing Tianyi quickly realized what was happening. He stepped forward and snatched the spoiled lunch box from Old Huang's hands, saying in a low voice, "Come with me."
Old Huang nodded and got up to follow Bing Tianyi as they both headed towards the Construction Site.
Recently, Old Huang had been feeling a bit bored during Bing Tianyi's free time, and he had only discovered these lunch boxes yesterday. He originally planned to tell Bing Tianyi that day but knew that as a driver, some things were difficult to address. Moreover, with many tasks at hand in recent days, Old Huang hadn't found the opportunity to bring it up.
It wasn't until today that Old Huang came up with this idea to alert Bing Tianyi.
Of course, Old Huang was pleased that Bing Tianyi was sharp enough; with just a few simple words from him, Bing Tianyi had already figured out what was going on.
In less than ten minutes, Old Huang and Bing Tianyi arrived at the Construction Site.
The canteen was located less than five hundred meters away on the east side. This area was a residential neighborhood, and the workers' dormitory was right across from the canteen in a two-story building. The entire building had been contracted by Big Head for his workers to live in.
When Bing Tianyi arrived, a group of Migrant Workers were eating at the entrance of the canteen. Hundreds of people squatted along the roadside with their bowls in hand, eating heartily.
As Bing Tianyi approached the group of workers, he handed his lunchbox to Old Huang without saying a word. With a stern expression, he walked up to one of the workers and bluntly said, "Give me your bowl."
The worker was puzzled and curiously asked Bing Tianyi, "Boss Bing, what's going on?"
Without responding, Bing Tianyi snatched the bowl from the worker's hands and grabbed a handful of rice, shoving it into his mouth.
"Ugh!"
"Yours, give it to me." Bing Tianyi switched to another bowl and repeated the action.
After taking bowls from three or four people, Bing Tianyi held a bowl of rice in his trembling hands and shouted sternly at the hundreds of bewildered onlookers, "Stop eating!"
As he spoke, he threw the bowl to the ground with a loud crash, shattering it and scattering grains of rice everywhere.
The crowd was even more confused, their eyes glued to the scene unfolding before them.
Seeing this reaction, Bing Tianyi turned to the person next to him and asked curiously, "Who is your foreman? Bring him over."
"Coming, I'm coming!" A loud voice called out from the crowd just as Bing Tianyi finished speaking.
Bing Tianyi looked up to see a plump man waddling toward him from a distance. The man was Chu Zhang, one of Big Head's subcontractors.
"Here I am! Boss Bing, why didn't you announce your arrival loudly before?" Chu Zhang said as he approached.
Bing Tianyi glanced at Chu Zhang and frowned. "Get me a bowl of food from the site."
Upon hearing this, Chu Zhang's face immediately showed signs of unease. He quickly smiled and replied, "Boss Bing, all the food for the workers has already been eaten."
"Not a single bit left?" Bing Tianyi feigned curiosity.
At this moment, Chu Zhang spoke up, "Our Main Kitchen has always prioritized frugality and never indulged in extravagance, so we finish all the food every day."
"Well, if I go in and see leftover rice, I will make sure you regret it," Bing Tianyi said as he stepped toward the Main Kitchen room.
Chu Zhang was stunned. After a moment, he hurriedly caught up with Bing Tianyi and said, "Boss Bing, how about this? Let me go in and check for you."
"Alright, go ahead and take a look," Bing Tianyi said, closely watching Chu Zhang. He was curious to see what tricks this kid had up his sleeve.
Chu Zhang entered the room and soon came out with a bowl of white rice. However, unlike the boxed meal Old Huang had given to Bing Tianyi, this one contained scrambled eggs with tomatoes instead of stir-fried meat with green peppers.
Bing Tianyi picked it up, sniffed it, took a bite, and looked at Chu Zhang with a smile as he asked, "Is this what you serve every day at the construction site?"
A radiant smile appeared on Chu Zhang's face as he quickly replied, "Of course! The meals at the construction site are prepared according to your standards—three meals a day, with one meal always including meat. The rice can be leftover from the previous day but must be freshly cooked that day. We do a great job here."
"Bring me the kitchen's accounts so I can take a look," Bing Tianyi continued.
Without thinking much, Chu Zhang cheerfully responded, "Sure!"
Before long, Chu Zhang found an account book from somewhere that detailed the daily expenses for purchasing ingredients and the corresponding amounts withdrawn from the company's accounts.
After a quick check, Bing Tianyi handed the account book to Old Huang and then passed his bowl of rice to Chu Zhang before turning to step into the Main Kitchen alone.
Once inside, Bing Tianyi looked at several buckets of white rice on the large cutting board to his left and the dark eggplants in the large iron pot nearby. He became furious.
He stepped out and walked two paces toward Chu Zhang, grabbing him by the collar and angrily shouted, "Get in here!"
Chu Zhang realized that his cover was blown. He quickly explained to Bing Tianyi, "Boss Bing, listen to me! I'm not doing this for myself; I'm trying to save costs for our company!"
As someone who grew up in a rural area, Bing Tianyi had seen many hardworking migrant workers. He thought of his father; back when he wasn't even in school yet, wasn't he also a migrant worker?
Before starting the Construction Company, Bing Tianyi had secretly told himself that even if he went bankrupt, he could not betray his conscience. First, he had to ensure that the Migrant Workers received their wages. Even though there were times when payments were delayed, Bing Tianyi had never delayed wages for more than two months. Secondly, after the Construction Company was established, Bing Tianyi had told the heads of various departments, including the foremen, that the workers' daily meals must be guaranteed to be satisfactory and safe. He remembered that Chu Zhang was present at that time.
However, he never expected that such a situation would arise now, just as the project was nearing completion.
Pulling Chu Zhang to the entrance of the Main Kitchen, Bing Tianyi stood firm and said to two nearby workers, "Go inside and bring me that bucket of rice."
The workers nodded and went in to carry out a bucket of rice that had long gone cold and spoiled, placing it at the entrance.
Bing Tianyi took a chopstick from one of the workers' bowls and handed it to Chu Zhang, sternly commanding, "Eat this and see if anyone can eat it!"
Chu Zhang realized that things had gone terribly wrong. Thinking quickly, he tried to pull Bing Tianyi aside.
Seeing this, Bing Tianyi looked at Chu Zhang and said clearly, "If there's something to discuss, you can tell me directly; there's no need for this sneaky behavior."
After hearing this, Chu Zhang looked at Bing Tianyi and spoke as quietly as possible, "President Bing, I'm really doing this for the good of our company. Think about it; they are just workers. Why do we have to treat their meals like those of civil servants? They are earning money for us."
Bing Tianyi was utterly speechless. He let out a cold laugh and slapped Chu Zhang hard across the face. Of course, he did not want to embarrass Chu Zhang in front of so many people, but at that moment, he was truly furious.
The workers present were stunned; they never expected this young boss to have such a fiery temper. However, when Bing Tianyi slapped Chu Zhang's face, the workers felt a warmth in their hearts.
