Facing these people, Bing Tianyi could only admit defeat.
Standing firm, he feigned helplessness and looked at the group before him, asking, "Brothers, I shouldn't have done anything wrong, right?"
"Pay the fine," said a burly Enforcement Officer who stepped out from the crowd, his expression serious.
"I'm just borrowing this place to set up a stall; it hasn't affected traffic or the city's appearance. Why do I have to pay a fine?" Bing Tianyi had not even started his business after forty minutes and, with no money on him, could only think of ways to get through this.
Upon hearing this, the group revealed disdainful smiles. The man holding Bing Tianyi pointed to a nearby sign that clearly stated: "Unauthorized street vending is prohibited."
"Do you see that? The sign is right there. Do you want us to take you over there for a closer look?" the man said arrogantly.
After hearing this, Bing Tianyi could only accept his fate. Helplessly, he looked at the few in front of him and asked, "How much do I need to pay?"
"How about this? Since you're young and it's your first time, we'll let you pay a little less," the chubby man said quietly.
After hearing this, Bing Tianyi's impression of the city management changed completely. With such a good service attitude and the ability to handle situations flexibly, why did the vendors in the county dislike these people so much?
Thinking this, Bing Tianyi quickly smiled and said, "Thank you, brothers. Is this enough?"
Saying that, Bing Tianyi took out three ten-yuan bills from his pocket and handed them to the group.
When they saw the thirty yuan, they laughed. The man who had grabbed Bing Tianyi's backpack didn't think much and kicked him to the ground while saying aggressively, "You think we're playing with you? Thirty yuan? Do you think that's enough?"
At this moment, Bing Tianyi was completely speechless. Just a moment ago, he had heard someone say to pay less, but now these people were furious over thirty dollars.
The good impression he had just formed vanished without a trace. Squatting on the ground, Bing Tianyi helplessly said, "Didn't you just say to pay less?"
Before he could finish his sentence, the nearby Fat Man bluntly stated, "Alright, just pay three hundred."
Hearing this, Bing Tianyi was utterly stunned. He glanced around at the vendors setting up their stalls and murmured, "Brothers, I’ve only been here for less than an hour and haven’t made a single cent today. You’re fining me three hundred; where am I supposed to find that much money?"
"What are you doing here if you don’t have that much money?"
"I..." Bing Tianyi felt somewhat guilty and squatted down, not daring to say more.
After a few seconds, the man who had spoken earlier stepped forward and grabbed Bing Tianyi by the collar, saying loudly, "Hey kid, I’m talking to you! What are you thinking about?"
"Brothers, how about this? I’m a fortune teller; I charge two hundred for a reading. How about I lower my price today and give each of you three readings for one dollar?" Bing Tianyi said helplessly.
The group nearby was taken aback at first but soon burst into laughter. One man laughed so hard he nearly fell over and looked at the middle-aged man who seemed to be his leader, saying, "Sun Team, did you hear that? He actually plans to read our fortunes!"
"Alright, let this kid go," the so-called Sun Team finally spoke up. After saying this, he turned his gaze toward Bing Tianyi and quietly added, "This place doesn’t allow street vending without permission from the relevant authorities, and you need to pay rent. Today I see you’re just a kid; you should go home."
After Sun Team finished speaking, the two men beside him looked at their leader in surprise. Just as Bing Tianyi kept thanking him, they quickly approached Sun Team and said, "Captain, shouldn’t we do something?"
"Do something about what?" Sun Team asked feigning curiosity.
The two men didn’t dare say more and could only sigh helplessly. They then turned to glare at the departing Bing Tianyi and shouted, "You lucky brat! Consider yourself fortunate today; if you run into us on the street in the future, watch out!"
Bing Tianyi was feeling irritated; he really didn't understand why the city management hired such useless people.
However, he was just an ordinary citizen, and such questions could only be pondered in his heart.
Just as Bing Tianyi was about to leave, he noticed that several city management officers were striding down the street.
His eyes lit up, and Bing Tianyi quickly shouted, "Captain Sun, wait a moment!"
The group of officers stopped and curiously turned to look at Bing Tianyi. He quickened his pace and walked over to them.
Once he stood still, he carefully observed them and then smiled at Sun Team. "Captain Sun, I have something I want to discuss with you. I wonder if you would be willing to come over for a moment?"
Seeing the strange expression on Bing Tianyi's face, Captain Sun was intrigued. After all, he didn't have anything important to do today; he was just out for a routine patrol.
"Kid, is there something you can't say right here?" Captain Sun asked. Although he was tall and had darker skin, he appeared kind when he smiled.
"It's about your future," Bing Tianyi leaned in and whispered in Captain Sun's ear.
Captain Sun felt a bit surprised. He had initially planned to turn and leave, but seeing the serious look in Bing Tianyi's eyes made him hesitate. After a moment, he nodded and said, "Alright then, I’d like to hear what you have to say."
Following Bing Tianyi, they walked about ten meters before stopping. Bing Tianyi frowned and looked directly at Captain Sun, asking bluntly, "Do you take them out for patrol every day?"
"Pretty much, what's it to you, kid?" Captain Sun replied with a helpless smile.
"Just now, when I turned around, I accidentally saw a beam of sunlight shining through the gaps in the colored steel shed. You were standing in the sunlight with your front half while your back half was in the shadows along with your team members," Bing Tianyi said earnestly.
Just as he said this, Captain Sun curiously asked, "What is this about?"
"In the eyes of us fortune tellers, there is no such thing as coincidence. Everything that happens in front of you is arranged by heaven," Bing Tianyi continued.
Captain Sun looked at the serious expression on the little brat Bing Tianyi's face while he spoke, and his interest grew. Regardless of whether it was true or not, talking to Bing Tianyi made him feel quite pleasant.
"Well, go on," Captain Sun said with a smile.
"The red light shining brightly signifies good fortune, but there is still a small shadow behind you. If I am not mistaken, in the next few days, you will either rise to great heights or face demotion and possibly even imprisonment," Bing Tianyi continued earnestly.
To be honest, Captain Sun initially intended to listen to this little brat just for fun, but when Bing Tianyi said the last part, Captain Sun was clearly taken aback.
He stood still, taking a deep breath. After a moment, he asked seriously, "So what do you think will happen?"
"I can't say exactly what will happen for now, but if you listen to me, it's best to take a leave of absence and avoid things for the next few days," Bing Tianyi told Captain Sun directly.
"Is it effective?"
"You may not believe it, but I see you as a good person, which is why I'm telling you this," Bing Tianyi said with the same serious expression as before, leaving no room for doubt.
Upon hearing this, Captain Sun's brows furrowed tightly. He reached out his right hand to support his chin and thought for a moment before quietly saying to Bing Tianyi, "Alright, kid, what do you know? It's more important for you to go home and study properly."
As soon as he finished speaking, Captain Sun prepared to turn and leave. Seeing this, Bing Tianyi hurriedly stepped forward and whispered to Captain Sun, "This is a paid service. However, I've already stated my position today; just one dollar will do. It benefits both of us."
Captain Sun was confused at this point, but one dollar was not a big deal for him. Without thinking much about it, he took out ten dollars from his pocket and said directly to Bing Tianyi, "Take this ten dollars and go eat a bowl of fried noodles at the stall nearby before heading home."
Bing Tianyi did not refuse, after all, he felt that he had helped Captain Sun a lot today. If it were someone else, he would never have let them leave so easily without charging two hundred yuan.
"Thank you," Bing Tianyi said gratefully as he took the two hundred yuan and left helplessly.
Walking down the street, Bing Tianyi was looking for a new spot to set up his stall. Before he knew it, he had walked to a corner on the west side of the square.
At that moment, the three old men from that day were sitting on the steps. When they saw Bing Tianyi walking over with a dejected expression, the man on the far right, dressed in a robe, laughed and said, "Kid, did you get caught by the city management?"
Hearing this, Bing Tianyi was surprised and asked, "How did you know?"
"I'm a fortune teller. If I can't even know about such small matters, how can I tell fortunes for others?" the old man replied proudly.
Seeing the smile on the old man's face, Bing Tianyi realized what was going on. He had initially been kind-hearted and didn't want to compete with these old men for business since they were all elderly. But he never expected that these old men had already conspired to inform the city management while he was setting up elsewhere, just to give him a warning.
Thinking of this, Bing Tianyi smiled. Without further ado, he opened his backpack and began to take out his equipment.
The old man on the left quickly asked, "Hey kid, didn't you promise us you'd go somewhere else that day? Why are you back here today?"
"Sigh... it's a long story," Bing Tianyi said with a troubled expression as he lowered his head and sighed.
