Seeing the expression on Bing Tianyi's face, Qin Tianlei, who had been a police officer for many years, naturally understood what was on Bing Tianyi's mind.
"Child, don't worry. We are Qin Qi's parents. My name is Qin Tianlei, and this is my wife, Xi Yuhua. This little girl is my second daughter, Qin Yue. We just rushed over from the city after hearing the news," Qin Tianlei said with a smile to Bing Tianyi.
After hearing this, Bing Tianyi somewhat regained his composure. He quickly sat up and smiled at Qin Tianlei, saying, "Uncle, it's really nothing. I just went down to help a bit."
"Good boy, when you grow up, you must take the police exam," Qin Tianlei said with a smile while patting Bing Tianyi's head. He then turned to Mother Bing and said, "You have such a good son; you should believe in him."
Upon hearing this, Bing Tianyi's mother smiled wryly at Qin Tianlei and said, "With him like this, if he can become a police officer, it would be a blessing for us old folks."
"You have raised such a wonderful son; you should have faith in him," Qin Tianlei replied with a sincere smile.
Just then, Qin Yue, looking somewhat unhappy, said, "Dad, you and Mom have been police officers your whole lives. It's fine for my older sister to become one, but why does everyone have to be encouraged to take the police exam?"
"You little girl, once you graduate from college, I will also let you apply to be a police officer," Qin Tianlei told Qin Yue directly.
"Dream on! I would never become a police officer," Qin Yue said as she pouted.
Xi Yuhua watched her daughter with a helpless smile. She then turned to Qin Tianlei and said, "We came here to see Tianyi; why are you talking about these unrelated matters?"
"Oh, sorry! I almost forgot," Qin Tianlei said awkwardly with a chuckle. He then asked Bing Tianyi, "Child, do you still feel any discomfort in your body? If so, please tell me so your mother can inform the doctor to check you properly."
"I'm fine, Uncle. How is Qin Qi doing now? Is he better?" Bing Tianyi asked with concern.
Qin Tianlei smiled and said, "Don't worry, she's fine now. However, I do want to ask you something."
"What is it?"
"Do you know my daughter?" Qin Tianlei asked curiously.
"I've seen her before, but she probably forgot about me," Bing Tianyi replied awkwardly with a smile.
After Bing Tianyi finished speaking, Qin Tianlei nodded and tentatively asked, "Where did you meet my daughter?"
"In the detention center," Bing Tianyi said, a hint of helplessness appearing on his face as he spoke softly.
Upon hearing this, Xi Yuhua's expression changed slightly as she turned to glance at her husband. Qin Tianlei, however, did not react much and continued to smile, saying, "How could you meet in a place like that? Did you kids get into some trouble?"
Before Bing Tianyi could explain, Bing Tianyi's mother quickly interjected, "No way! My silly son would never do anything wrong. He was misunderstood, but later it was cleared up that he had nothing to do with that incident."
Qin Tianlei had intended to chat a bit more with Bing Tianyi but was interrupted when Xi Yuhua stepped forward with a smile and said, "Sorry, we have some matters to attend to. If you need anything, just let us know. Also, this is our token of appreciation; please make sure to accept it."
As she spoke, Xi Yuhua took out a red envelope from their pockets. It looked like there was at least ten thousand yuan inside as she handed it over to Mother Bing.
Just as Mother Bing was about to reach out for the envelope, Bing Tianyi suddenly changed his expression and said, "Uncle, if you do this, it feels like you're looking down on us. Although our family isn't well-off and my parents are street vendors, if I were to receive such a large sum of money just for saving your daughter, that would clearly be an insult to my character."
Qin Tianlei, Xi Yuhua, and Mother Bing were all taken aback. They did not expect this seemingly sixteen or seventeen-year-old boy to say such mature words. While Mother Bing felt proud of her son, she was also more concerned about the atmosphere.
After all, she believed her son should be compensated for saving someone. Moreover, their family was not in good financial shape; the couple earned very little from their street vending every month. To have someone offer them so much money only for her son to refuse so firmly seemed foolish to her.
An awkward atmosphere suddenly filled the room as Qin Tianlei stood by, staring at the red envelope in his wife's hand. After a few seconds of silence, he finally spoke, "Alright then, since that's the case, you should rest well. If you need any help in the future, just come to me."
After saying this, Qin Tianlei and his wife turned to leave the room with Qin Yue.
Once only Bing Tianyi and his mother were left in the room, Mother Bing quickly stepped forward to close the door. She then turned to face Bing Tianyi and scolded him in a low voice, "What were you thinking? Have you really lost your mind? How much money do you think your deadbeat dad and I make selling things every day? Now that they sent over that money, it's yours too. Why didn't you take it?"
"Mom, please don't be angry. There’s a reason I didn’t take the money," Bing Tianyi explained with a smile.
Mother Bing glared at her son and said unhappily, "What reason could there possibly be?"
"Mom, didn’t you see the look in Qin Tianlei's wife's eyes just now?"
"What look?"
"It was when you were saying I was misunderstood; she glanced at her husband, and that look clearly said she thought we weren't good people," Bing Tianyi sighed softly.
Upon hearing this, Mother Bing's expression changed dramatically. She stood up and exclaimed angrily, "What is wrong with this world? My son saved their daughter, yet they still think you're a bad person? Why did you even bother saving them?"
Just as she finished speaking, hearty laughter came from outside the door. Bing Tianyi turned to see his father grinning as he said to his son, "Well done! You really made me proud today."
"Hehe, it’s nothing," Bing Tianyi replied, feeling somewhat happy at his father's praise.
The family chatted joyfully until the next morning when Bing Tianyi got up and went directly to the payment office to handle his discharge procedures. Since he was not seriously injured and felt bored in the hospital, he asked his parents to take him home so he could go out and do some fortune-telling.
As they reached the hospital entrance and were about to board a bus home, they suddenly heard Qin Qi calling out from behind with a hoarse voice, "Bing Tianyi, wait up."
At this moment, Qin Qi was wearing a hospital gown, still bare-faced, her complexion slightly pale, but her eyes were bright and focused on Bing Tianyi not far away.
Seeing this, Bing Tianyi stopped and smiled at Qin Qi, asking, "What's wrong, Officer Qin? Is there something else?"
Qin Qi walked up to Bing Tianyi and awkwardly said, "I'm sorry."
"What's the matter?" Bing Tianyi asked curiously.
"I may have misunderstood you before," Qin Qi paused for a moment before speaking each word carefully.
Bing Tianyi smiled lightly and looked at Qin Qi, saying, "I thought it was something serious. It's fine; I never took it to heart."
As he spoke, Bing Tianyi turned and walked toward the Bus Stop Sign. In his heart, he believed that someone like Qin Qi should definitely be saved. He remembered the last time in that world when Qin Qi, so young, lost her life while trying to save someone. The crowd in the county voluntarily came to bid her farewell, and the entire street was packed with people.
Such a good police officer, if she were alive, who knows how many good deeds she could have done for the people. Back then, Bing Tianyi wondered why he didn't save her.
Since the last time he saw Qin Qi, Bing Tianyi had kept this matter in mind.
Unexpectedly, the situation replayed itself, and he had saved Qin Qi according to his previous thoughts. This act was somewhat of a comfort to his innermost feelings.
On the noisy bus, Father Bing wore a bright smile while Mother Bing was still angry about her son refusing money from others.
Halfway through the ride, Bing Tianyi got off the bus and smiled at his parents, saying, "Mom and Dad, I'm going out to set up a stall. Come back early tonight."
Seeing their son already getting off the bus, Father Bing and Mother Bing felt somewhat helpless.
Think about it, his son is still so young, yet he doesn't prioritize studying and instead goes around telling fortunes. How can someone like that have a bright future?
Bing Tianyi originally planned to go to the corner of the square, but just as he was about to leave, he remembered his promise to those old men that he wouldn't compete with them for business.
With no other choice, he decided to take his setup to the entrance of Wenchang Road. Wenchang Road is the second largest food gathering place in Huating County, aside from Food City. The entire street is closed to motor vehicles, and both sides are lined with various food stalls.
In the center of the street, there are neatly arranged stalls built with colorful steel awnings for vendors to use.
Such a location naturally attracts a significant amount of foot traffic.
After a brief observation, he sat down on the steps near the southern exit, took out his items from his backpack, lit an incense stick, and arranged everything accordingly. Bing Tianyi began waiting once again.
As time passed, about forty minutes later, a city management vehicle arrived. The personnel peeked around for a moment before setting their sights on Bing Tianyi's small stall.
A few young men in their twenties, dressed in uniforms, approached with an imposing demeanor.
Bing Tianyi's parents were vendors as well, so he understood the situation. Seeing that things were looking grim, he quickly started packing up his setup.
Just as he finished and was about to leave, one of the young men moved swiftly and reached for Bing Tianyi's backpack that he had just slung over his shoulder.
