The streets were bustling with traffic and pedestrians. Not far from the road, several cranes were slowly moving. The small county town was currently undergoing construction and development.
In the crowd, Bing Tianyi and Pang Yu attracted no attention as they quickly arrived at the bus stop. After getting on the bus, Pang Yu gasped for breath and helplessly asked Bing Tianyi, "Hey, big brother, what's going on with you lately? Is it really related to that time you fell into the water?"
Facing Pang Yu's question, Bing Tianyi smiled wryly and said, "Pang Yu, do you believe there is another world?"
"Do you believe it?" Pang Yu countered, looking at Bing Tianyi.
Bing Tianyi chuckled helplessly, glancing out the bus window at the building under construction in the distance. He then smiled at Pang Yu and asked, "Take a guess, how long do you think it will take for that building to be completed?"
Having lived in this county for many years, Pang Yu had seen plenty of construction projects. Looking at the building that was less than twelve stories high, he confidently replied, "If I'm not mistaken, it should be finished by this time tomorrow."
"Wrong. That building will be delayed for five years," Bing Tianyi asserted.
Of course, after he said this, both Pang Yu and the surrounding passengers turned to look at Bing Tianyi with mocking smiles.
However, Bing Tianyi paid no mind to them; his main concern was what was happening at his destination.
About ten minutes later, Bing Tianyi and Pang Yu arrived at Artificial Lotus Lake in the county.
At this moment, Bald Bing Tianyi caught quite a few people's attention. Standing still, he looked around and noticed an unusual calmness; many young men and women were enjoying the autumn scenery by the lake.
Seeing this situation, Pang Yu wore a frustrated expression and asked Bing Tianyi, "Hey big brother, aren't we here to save someone?"
"Wait a moment," Bing Tianyi replied as he began to stroll along the lakeside.
Time passed second by second, and Bing Tianyi and Pang Yu had been wandering for nearly half an hour when a scene not far away suddenly caught Bing Tianyi's attention.
"Look, something is happening over there," he said, stepping forward in the direction of his gaze.
As he quickened his pace, Pang Yu struggled to keep up, but he still tried his best to chase after him.
Just as they arrived at the scene, Bing Tianyi saw a girl, around seventeen or eighteen years old, suddenly jump into the icy lake with a splash.
The northern sky was not as warm as that of the south; it was already early autumn, and the lake water was noticeably cold.
After the girl jumped into the water, Bing Tianyi shouted loudly, "Miss, come back! Don't go any further!"
But the girl clearly seemed intent on committing suicide; she walked steadily deeper into the lake with each step.
Standing on the shore, Bing Tianyi watched as the water gradually submerged the girl's thighs, then her abdomen, and soon after, her chest.
In a moment of desperation, Bing Tianyi quickly removed his outer clothing. Just as he was about to jump into the water, he noticed another girl in a police uniform nearby who had not managed to take off her uniform before jumping in with a splash.
Seeing this, Bing Tianyi furrowed his brows and sternly told Pang Yu, who was trying to hold him back, "Let go!"
"Brother, you almost drowned that day! If you jump in today, aren't you just looking for death?" Pang Yu shouted as he held onto Bing Tianyi tightly.
The crowd around them stood by the lakeside, all eyes focused on the policewoman and the girl who was about to be submerged up to her neck.
"If you don't let go now, someone will die today," Bing Tianyi's expression changed dramatically as he glared at Pang Yu.
Hearing the word "die," Pang Yu froze for a moment and loosened his grip slightly. In that instant of release from Pang Yu, Bing Tianyi leaped into the icy water.
After Bing Tianyi dove into the water, he realized just how uncomfortable it was to be submerged in the lake. Reflecting on his recent experience swimming in the river before autumn arrived, he thought that he wouldn't have felt this way.
He stepped closer to the little girl while keeping his eyes fixed on the policewoman in uniform.
As the little girl disappeared beneath the water, Bing Tianyi found himself unable to quicken his pace. However, in a moment of urgency, the policewoman dove underwater and swiftly swam toward the little girl.
The distance closed in—ten meters, eight meters, six meters...
Onshore, everyone was silent, their palms sweaty as they watched the scene unfold in the lake.
Just as nearly three minutes passed since the little girl had submerged, cheers erupted from the shore as her head broke the surface of the water.
However, at that moment, the policewoman's body still had not surfaced. Bing Tianyi sensed something was wrong and pushed himself to swim faster.
Reaching the little girl, Bing Tianyi quickly grabbed her hand, using his height to gain an advantage. After stabilizing her as best as he could, he shouted to the approaching officers, "Hurry up and pull her to shore!"
After saying this, Bing Tianyi took a deep breath and dove back into the deep water. His strong willpower supported him.
Once underwater, Bing Tianyi discovered that the situation was far more severe than he had anticipated.
The artificial lake was very different from a regular river; river water flows, so there isn’t much sediment at the bottom—mostly sand and stones. In contrast, an artificial lake has a muddy bottom with few hard objects.
Thus, when a person creates movement in the water, the sediment at the bottom stirs up continuously, making the lake murky. It was impossible for him to open his eyes clearly.
In the darkness, Bing Tianyi kept reaching out to search for any sign of the policewoman. Despite his efforts to search quickly within his reach, time passed without him finding any trace of her.
With no other choice, Bing Tianyi had to surface temporarily. He glanced at the darkened surface of the lake and noticed a few small bubbles before diving back down again.
As Bing Tianyi calculated that he was about to reach the position to release the bubbles, he made up his mind and opened his eyes.
As the murky lake water entered his eyes, upon seeing a shadow in front of him, Bing Tianyi quickly shut his eyes tightly and reached out towards the shadow he had just seen. He indeed managed to grab onto the person's clothing.
He hurriedly pulled the person out of the water, but after surfacing, Bing Tianyi found it difficult to open his eyes again.
At the same time, several police officers arrived beside Bing Tianyi. After receiving the Policewoman that Bing Tianyi had pushed towards them, two Male Officers stepped forward and directly grabbed Bing Tianyi, dragging him towards the shore.
Once they reached the shore, Bing Tianyi felt a burning sensation in his eyes, accompanied by sharp pain irritating the nerves inside his eyes.
"Could you please give me a bottle of clean water? Hurry!" Bing Tianyi shouted to the crowd around him, which he could not see clearly while squatting on the ground.
He did not know who handed him a bottle of clean water, but after opening it, he struggled to open his eyes and raised the bottle above his head, pouring it into his eyes.
As the water flowed in, the debris in Bing Tianyi's eyes began to wash out continuously. Although it was uncomfortable, Bing Tianyi knew that this was necessary to save his eyesight.
After performing some basic first aid, Bing Tianyi, along with the Policewoman and the girl who had jumped into the water, were sent to the county hospital.
By afternoon, Bing Tianyi finally felt that his eyesight had returned to normal.
As he opened his eyes, he heard his mother’s voice beside him: “Tianyi, are you okay? How do your eyes feel now?”
“I’m fine now. Is that girl and the police officer okay?” Bing Tianyi sat up and asked his worried mother.
“The girl is mostly fine, but that Policewoman inhaled quite a bit of water. If you hadn’t jumped in to save her, she probably wouldn’t have survived,” Mother Bing said, looking at her foolish son with a mix of pride and helplessness.
“As long as they’re okay,” Bing Tianyi smiled and got ready to get out of bed.
"Mother Bing" quickly said to "Bing Tianyi," "You're still on an IV."
"Isn't it just sand in my eye? Do I really need an IV?" Bing Tianyi replied with a bitter smile.
"The doctor said it's best to get some anti-inflammatory medication; otherwise, they're worried about your eye getting infected," Mother Bing explained.
To avoid worrying his mother, Bing Tianyi could only smile and nod in agreement.
A few minutes later, while Bing Tianyi was talking to his mother about the rescue, the door to the hospital room was suddenly pushed open.
Bing Tianyi stopped speaking and turned to look at the doorway. Standing there were two police officers, a man and a woman, both appearing to be at least in their forties.
"Are you Bing Tianyi?" the man asked, gratitude evident on his face as he focused intently on Bing Tianyi in the hospital bed.
"Yes," Bing Tianyi replied, momentarily stunned, thinking that these officers had come to take his statement.
"Hurry up, it's this child," the older man said just as a young woman dressed in ordinary clothes stepped inside with two large bags.
At the same time, the man and the woman beside him entered. As they approached Bing Tianyi, the man stepped forward and tightly grasped Bing Tianyi's hand. With tears in his eyes, he looked at Bing Tianyi and said, "Good child, if it weren't for you today, my daughter's life would have been lost. Thank you, truly thank you."
"Who are you?" Faced with this sudden gratitude, Bing Tianyi was momentarily at a loss and looked curiously at the man before him.
