Of course, as a father, Bing Tianyi's Father is no exception; he certainly hopes for his son to achieve great things. When Bing Tianyi was admitted to high school, he missed the entrance to Huating County No. 1 High School by just four points. However, in order to ensure his son could attend a key high school, Bing Tianyi's Father spent nearly ten thousand yuan to secure his admission to the school.
Now, wanting Bing Tianyi to be first in his class was naturally an impossible task.
After saying this, Bing Tianyi's Father went to the kitchen to start washing vegetables in preparation for the next day's filling.
Seeing this, Bing Tianyi knew that no matter what he said, it would be futile. He could only smile helplessly and turned back to his desk to continue studying the two books he had received from the old monk.
The next day, after getting up, Bing Tianyi noticed that his parents had already left. Following his usual routine, he made wontons for breakfast and filled his stomach, preparing to head out for a stroll. Just as he opened the door, he unexpectedly saw Pang Yu casually walking towards him.
Stopping in his tracks, Bing Tianyi smiled wryly and said, "Looking for me this early? Are you here to give me a red envelope?"
"What? Is money all you think about? I'm here to check on you and see if your head was seriously affected yesterday," Pang Yu replied as he approached Bing Tianyi.
"Not bringing a gift when visiting? You might as well not come," Bing Tianyi joked.
"Come on, sending a goose feather from a thousand miles away is light but carries deep sentiment. Haven't you heard that before?" Pang Yu shot back with a glare at Bing Tianyi and a smirk.
"I've heard of it, but I don't know what it means."
As they talked, they stepped inside.
Sitting across from each other, Pang Yu leaned back casually in his chair and asked Bing Tianyi with a grin, "Got any cigarettes?"
"Weren't you not smoking at school?" Bing Tianyi asked curiously, noticing Pang Yu's usual honest demeanor.
"In school, I don't smoke, but it's different here," Pang Yu said with a strange smile.
Hearing this, Bing Tianyi awkwardly replied, "I really don't have any."
"I saw your uncle smoking at home. Didn't he prepare a few packs for guests?"
"Don't mention it. The only pack of cigarettes at home, a ten-dollar box of Golden Leaf, was taken by the old monk," Bing Tianyi said with a bitter smile.
Pang Yu naturally didn't believe it and immediately got up to search around the small room. After a while, Bing Tianyi seriously said, "There really isn't any left. How about I take you to see my master? He should have some cigarettes and maybe even good wine."
Upon hearing this, Pang Yu stopped and turned to Bing Tianyi with great curiosity, asking, "You still have a master?"
"Of course! Come on, I'll take you to see him." As he spoke, Bing Tianyi got up and walked straight towards the door.
Seeing this, Pang Yu quickly followed him out and turned to stand in front of the door to the next room. Stopping, Bing Tianyi knocked on the door and shouted loudly, "Master, are you home? It's me, Bing Tianyi, your newly accepted disciple. Open the door; I need to talk to you."
Several minutes passed, but the door remained tightly closed. At this moment, Pang Yu disdainfully said to Bing Tianyi, "Are you kidding? Is there really someone in that room?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the door to the old monk's room opened. A plump middle-aged woman with curly hair shouted loudly, "It's so noisy early in the morning; are you trying to wake the dead?"
"Auntie, may I ask you about the old monk in this room..."
Before Bing Tianyi could finish his sentence, the Fat Woman disdainfully interrupted, "Don't bother looking; he hasn't been seen for many days. He probably died outside."
"What? He hasn't been seen for several days? No way!" Bing Tianyi exclaimed in surprise, recalling that he had seen the old monk just yesterday.
The woman became even more displeased and said, "Believe it or not; but kid, let me tell you—if you keep shouting like that, I won't be polite to you."
After saying this, the Fat Woman slammed the door shut.
Seeing the empty hallway, Bing Tianyi furrowed his brows. Pang Yu, beside him, chuckled helplessly and said, "Brother Tianyi, let it go. Let's just go buy a bag."
At that moment, Bing Tianyi wasn't really listening to Pang Yu's words; he was lost in thought. Although he wasn't particularly fond of the old monk, he was still the one who had acknowledged him as his master.
Moreover, considering the strange events he had experienced over the past couple of days, an ominous premonition quickly washed over him.
Surprised, Bing Tianyi turned to Pang Yu and said, "Brother, can you help me with a small favor?"
"Go ahead," Pang Yu replied with a seemingly generous nod.
"Great, let's both charge at the door and break it open," Bing Tianyi said earnestly.
"Brother, is it really worth breaking into someone's room for a cigarette?" Pang Yu exclaimed, breaking out in a cold sweat. He thought to himself that Bing Tianyi must have lost his mind!
After Pang Yu finished speaking, Bing Tianyi's expression turned strange as he said, "I think the old monk should be in the room, but..."
Seeing the look on Bing Tianyi's face, Pang Yu curiously asked, "But what?"
"But he might have already passed away," Bing Tianyi reluctantly admitted under Pang Yu's questioning.
