Chapter 271: Thirty Minutes
A large group of us stood at the edge of the abyss, facing it closely, and I felt even more acutely the insignificance of humanity and the frailty of our current power.
"Now, we need to manually open the passage to the Divine Tree," the Awakened One glanced at the Watch on his wrist and said to us, "There are thirty minutes left. If you have anything to say, now is the time."
"What do you mean by thirty minutes?" Wang Yi asked.
"Heavenly timing, geographical advantage, and human harmony. Do you think accessing the Divine Tree is that easy?" The Awakened One's tone remained calm.
In any case, thirty minutes is neither long nor short, but during this brief half-hour, I decided to dedicate all my time to being alone with Cold Snow.
After saying goodbye to everyone, I took Cold Snow by the hand and walked to a side. In this dim abyss, there was a unique charm.
I held her hands and sat at the edge of the pit. The Green Light continued to flicker above and below us, illuminating each other's expressions without needing any external light.
"Xue Er, we've been so busy lately; it feels like we have so little time alone together," I suddenly felt a pang of guilt towards her.
Cold Snow shook her head, a faint smile gracing her delicate and beautiful face. "From the very beginning, our identities have already determined our fate. You have nothing to feel guilty about. This path has not been easy; it's impossible to withdraw halfway. But despite that, we must fight to survive. Promise me."
Seeing her serious expression and tone, I nodded involuntarily and earnestly promised, "I will never easily give up my life, and neither will you."
"Mm." Cold Snow nodded vigorously and suddenly threw herself into my arms. I instinctively tightened my hold around her waist, lightly inhaling the fragrance from her hair, feeling an inexplicable sense of satisfaction in my heart.
"Feng, although our positions differ behind us, I hope you understand that I will always stand behind you and support you!" Cold Snow's voice gradually grew firm.
Listening to her made my heart ache inexplicably. Ever since we confirmed our relationship, there were times when I would forget she was once part of the Azure Dragon. Although currently there were no conflicts with them, I had to admit that my heart seemed to have leaned towards another side. I didn't even know when it started. I found myself feeling that the actions of the "God Alliance" were just.
Let's not talk about the past for now; instead, I am currently making a deal with the "Awakened One"! And right in front of her! Thinking back, it really feels a bit excessive!
"Although our Azure Dragon has always been at odds with the God Alliance, I believe in the Azure Dragon and also in the God Alliance. Despite our differing positions, their ultimate goal is the same: they want to protect this world. It's just that their methods differ," Cold Snow said, holding my hand and resting her head on my shoulder.
"The ultimate goal is the same?" I frowned slightly and asked, "Xue Er, what else do you know?" I couldn't understand her statement.
"I don't know anything," a gentle voice slowly reached my ears. "Do you remember what I told you when I entered the Flower Mountain Caves? That I saw the future?"
I nodded heavily. "Yes, I remember!"
"I didn't tell you everything back then. Ever since I came out of the Paradise Spirit Tower, my mind has been filled with many memories and scenes. It took me a long time to filter out the unimportant information. But by the end of it, I realized a lot, yet it felt like I knew nothing at all—a very strange state..."
I quietly listened to her speak without interrupting, and she continued, "Although it's not completely clear, what I do won't change. Isn't fate supposed to follow a predetermined path?"
I couldn't answer her question.
Should fate follow a predetermined path?
Perhaps many people would submit to fate, but I often hear those who wish to defy it, saying things like "My fate is determined by me, not by heaven."
Several minutes passed in silence before Cold Snow suddenly asked me, "Feng, do you want to know what the so-called 'Cyborg' really is?"
Of course, I wanted to know; however, "Shh." I placed my index finger on her lips and whispered, "We don't have much time just for the two of us left. Let's talk about other things later; let me hold you tightly for now."
"In the future..." Cold Snow seemed to bury her head slightly, her voice murmuring, "There won't be any more opportunities..."
"Eh? Why won't there be any more opportunities?" I asked in confusion. Although her voice was very soft, I was sure I hadn't misheard.
"It's nothing. Don't you really want to know?" Cold Snow replied.
"I don't want to!" At least for now, I truly didn't want to know. We only had a short thirty minutes; let's enjoy this peaceful moment together!
Such moments are incredibly precious, and I don't want to waste them discussing tedious and dreary matters.
"Alright, heh heh." There was a hint of laughter in Cold Snow's voice, and the warm breath brushed against my neck, comforting and gentle.
Warm and peaceful moments are so hard to come by. Holding onto her soft body, I closed my eyes, and memories of everything that had happened over the past few months flooded my mind like a rapid slideshow. Anxiety, fear, confusion, unease, sadness, joy... a rich tapestry of emotions that felt exceptionally vivid and real.
These few months have been more colorful than the entirety of my first half of life. University life—heh heh—this fast-paced existence has nearly made me forget how I used to live.
Looking back now, it must have been quite uneventful. Aside from surfing the internet, attending classes, and sleeping, it seemed there was nothing else to do.
But was such a life really that bad?
Although it was far more mundane compared to our current "work," that kind of life was undoubtedly beautiful! Not everyone desires adventure or seeks the truth of the world as we do; for ordinary people, a life of simplicity and peace is all they want. For them—and for my former self—that was enough!
At this thought, I suddenly felt a jolt in my heart; in that moment, it seemed I had glimpsed something profound.
A simple life versus a life filled with adventure and peril...
What connection exists between the God Alliance and the Demon Clan?
I sensed that I had touched the edge of the truth, but...
