Chapter 269: Tree of Life!
"Is this the place?" I asked, looking at the enormous Black Gate in front of me, feeling both puzzled and somewhat delighted.
It was no exaggeration to say it was gigantic; looking up, it was at least ten stories high and over a hundred meters wide. If the person hadn't said it was a door, I would have thought it was just a wall.
"How do we open this door?" With two flashlights in hand, we shone them up and down, back and forth. Of course, our eyes followed the light, but unfortunately, we couldn't see any place to open the door—no guards, no keyholes, and we couldn't even tell if there was a crack.
We all looked towards the group of Awakeners. Since they brought us here, they must have a way to open it.
"Box of Ten Thousand Bones," said one of the black-clad individuals, who appeared to be their leader.
"Box of Ten Thousand Bones? What is that?" Wang Yi asked, confused.
Meanwhile, those of us who were in the know turned to look at me. Seeing everyone else looking at me, Xiao Zian and the others also turned their gazes my way. I had no choice but to take out the Heavenly Temple I had obtained from Paradise Spirit Tower some time ago and said, "Is this what you mean?" If they hadn't mentioned it, I might have forgotten about this Black Box altogether; I had no idea how to open it…
One of the black-clad individuals came over and took the Black Box from my hands to hand it to their leader. I watched in confusion. How exactly was this thing supposed to be opened? Would there be a key inside once it was opened, or would a brilliant light shine down from above and then the door would just open?
Clearly, my imagination was running a bit wild. Once they received it, they took out some tools and began working on opening the Black Box without saying a word. Seeing their serious demeanor, we didn’t want to disturb them too much.
What we needed now was mutual trust. To achieve our respective goals, we had to cooperate closely!
At that moment, one of the black-clad individuals calmly said to us, "This door requires an array to open. The Box of Ten Thousand Bones contains the specific method to Open the Door."
"Then anyone who gets this box can open the door?" Wang Yi asked curiously.
The individual shook his head and replied calmly, "Not anyone; others won't be able to use it at all."
When he said "we," he likely meant all members of the God Alliance. Xiao Zian then asked, "Why can't others use it?"
"They can't open it." The exchange felt surprisingly harmonious…
"If we force it open?" Xianxian asked, and after a moment added, "For example, if we used something from the outside to smash it open, would that mean the door is no longer locked?"
Xianxian's question was one we all wanted to know. The person remained expressionless, as if he could see through everything, and said to us, "Not to mention that ordinary people wouldn't do something so foolish, even if you destroyed it, the door could still open; it would just be more troublesome."
Indeed, who would smash such a precious thing with an axe? Once we obtained it, we treated it like a treasure, afraid of damaging it.
Xianxian shrugged indifferently; he was just asking and wouldn't be foolish enough to break it.
As time passed, the Box of Ten Thousand Bones in their hands transformed into something entirely different, resembling an assembled toy. The Box of Ten Thousand Bones was taken apart, revealing various small components that resembled skulls or bones—strange and diverse.
The people seemed to have used some unknown power. One of the men in black waved his hand, and a black object flew onto the door. Miraculously, that object stuck to the Black Gate without falling off.
Thus, the black components were gradually inserted into different places. Finally, we heard them chanting a series of words that sounded like either a spell or something else. The objects on the Black Gate emitted a soft glow; though described as soft, it felt warm against our skin yet was also very dazzling.
Instinctively closing our eyes, after a few seconds, the light faded away. A distant and muffled voice seemed to come from an ancient place. Then, the black door split in two and began to open from the center.
We all watched this scene in disbelief; it was truly astonishing. Such power and events seemed like everyday occurrences for these people—completely unremarkable and not surprising at all.
If ordinary people living in this society were to witness this, they would likely be terrified; after all, such occurrences are usually categorized as supernatural events.
This is because science cannot study or explain them.
Because of the unknown, they become supernatural.
Because of misunderstanding, they are not believed.
Because they have never been heard of before, we are seen as outcasts.
Once the door opened, nearly all of us widened our eyes in disbelief and astonishment!
My goodness, how could such a thing possibly exist in this world!
A faint Green Light emitted a gentle glow like fireflies. I recalled a while ago when we were in the Ice World—me, Lime, Xianxian, and Pei Zi encountered an Ice Coffin.
The Ice Coffin is situated on a platform-like structure, surrounded by a deep pit with no footholds, resembling a vast chasm with no way to cross.
Perhaps upon seeing this scene, you would say, "It's different!"
Yes, it is different!
What I want to convey is that ahead of us lies an enormous Black Pit. When we approach the edge and look down, it seems endless, like an abyss—massive, overwhelming, and awe-inspiring!
This is also a circular pit. Even standing outside its circumference, we can feel the irresistible powerful aura emanating from it, especially from whatever lies within that abyss!
"Tree of Life!... right?"
For a moment, I even thought I was dreaming because a towering and colossal tree shot up from the Abyss! It resembled a gigantic building, making us feel so small and weak in its presence!
The source of the Green Light was all over the tree, radiating a dim Green Light everywhere. Although we couldn't see its true form, the visual impact it had on us was beyond mere shock. This was also why we could directly perceive the existence of such a massive tree before us!
I do not know whether this "tree" is a naturally occurring living entity or constructed from some material.
However, at this moment,
Everyone was collectively in a daze. To call it an ancient tree would be an understatement; I even had a gut feeling that this tree might be older than any known species in this world...
