Chapter 253: Water of the Dead
I cannot describe the feeling of being swept away by the water, nor can I express the helplessness that comes with it. It surged like a flood, forcing me to retreat continuously.
I never expected that even in a drought, I could be submerged by water. Fortunately, I had the The Dead cheat device in hand. Before encountering Divine Hand and their group, I had already taken out two Surface protection devices for Lime and Xianxian. As for Divine Hand, with their strength, it wouldn't be so easy for them to drown; at most, they would just suffer a bit more!
As the world spun around me, I suddenly felt my back crash against something hard. I reached out to touch it, thinking I had hit the wall of the Ear Chamber. To my surprise, it felt cold and slippery to the touch, even having a sticky sensation. It felt as if I were touching a decaying corpse...
Startled by this thought, I quickly pushed away that soft and slimy thing. Thankfully, I couldn't see it, but that only made it more terrifying in my mind.
The "flood" brought not only darkness but also corpses that came rushing in from who knows where. Perhaps they were from Tomb Raider, or maybe from some Burial Pit. No wonder the last glimpse of water looked so murky; it seemed mixed with something else. Just thinking about the possibility of corpses surrounding me made me feel even colder with dread.
Occasionally bumping into things sent chills down my spine. Estimating the time and speed, we should have reached the area near the previous Six-Sided Door. Now, all I needed to do was be careful not to be swept into another door!
The flashlight was waterproof, but it wasn't effective here, so I didn't use it. Gritting my teeth, I extended my hands and feet to carefully feel my surroundings. The water's speed had decreased significantly, and the restraints on my limbs were not as strong; it was time to search for an exit.
Just as I was feeling around, a hard object suddenly reached between my neck and shoulders. Startled, I dodged and grabbed onto that moving thing. As soon as I caught it, it began to thrash violently. Not willing to let go easily, I held on tightly. If it was a Zongzi or something else, it was better to hold on firmly; otherwise, with the enemy hidden in the dark, who knew where the attack might come from!
Just as I was thinking this, another hard object kicked me heavily. Caught off guard, my grip slipped, and that thing slipped away!
This place is not suitable for staying long! It's best to hurry and find an exit!
I exerted all my strength to swim upwards, feeling for the bricks above me. If nothing unexpected happened, I should be able to find an exit!
My body gradually became numb from the cold, and even my teeth started to chatter. If I didn't have the protective gear, I couldn't imagine what it would be like now; the scene would be too beautiful!
Finally, just as I touched a hard edge that felt different from what I had felt before, my heart leaped with joy. I reached out to feel around again, and when my hand met emptiness, I knew this was it! So I quickly swam upwards. Just as my hand broke through the surface, before I could even feel joy, someone suddenly grabbed me. When I realized it was a human hand, I was already pulled up.
Once I was up, I felt a wave of exhaustion wash over me. After removing the protective gear and taking a deep breath of not-so-fresh air, I finally saw the person who had pulled me up and couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief; it was Lime.
"Xianxian hasn't come up yet?" I looked around. This was just a smaller tomb chamber, empty and strange, with no one else around.
"No," Lime said calmly, turning his gaze back to the water below. Now that the light shone down, I could see clearly and instinctively covered my mouth and nose. What I didn't expect was that the smell from my hand was even more pungent and foul, making me want to vomit repeatedly.
It was a dark pool of sewage, floating with many decaying pieces of flesh. I couldn't tell how many dead bodies were in there; the stench was overwhelming and the sight nauseating. I truly admired how Lime could still stare at it expressionlessly.
I quickly washed myself off and changed into identical clothes. Then I handed Lime clean clothes and enough water. "I'll keep watch here; you go wash up!"
Lime nodded, and then I took his place, waiting for Xianxian to emerge from the water. I wondered what kind of expression he would have if he knew he had been soaking in this pool filled with corpses for so long—someone who cared about cleanliness even more than I did!
As I thought about this, a hand suddenly reached out from under the water. I froze for a moment before quickly grabbing hold of a figure that was completely blackened and reeking of foul odor.
He threw his blackened mask onto the ground and gasped for air while cursing, "Damn it! That nearly suffocated me; I'm freezing!"
"Here are your clothes on the side; hurry up and wash!" I said disdainfully as I looked at Xianxian. His mouth twitched as he clearly caught a whiff of his own odor and hurried off to clean himself up.
"I think we should leave quickly. I encountered quite a few moving things down there, they should be people, and one even tried to grab my leg. Haha, I kicked it over! Haha~ Let's go, who knows, they might come up here soon. If they see us like this, it could cause some trouble." After cleaning up, Xianxian once again regained the appearance of a graceful young man, but the words coming out of his mouth reminded me of an unpleasant scene!
Forget it, let's not mention it. Who cares? I nodded, "Let's go."
I had already thrown all the dirty clothes into a corner of The Dead. Everyone had been knocked over, and if they came up and saw us in new clothes, that would be bad. After walking a few steps, I thought for a moment and decided to leave behind five bags of Compressed Biscuit and a bottle of mineral water. They weren't really terrible people; they had helped me a bit over the past few days. To be honest, I didn't want to see them die here.
Neither Xianxian nor Lime said anything about my actions. Xianxian just sighed and patted my shoulder, "Let's go."
"Okay." Just as we stepped out the door, I heard another sound from behind, like water breaking through. I couldn't help but smile; perhaps we would meet again by chance!
Most of the original items were unusable, including food, which all had a foul smell. So I threw them into the corner; who knows, they might save someone's life...
What wouldn't a person eat when they're starving? Moreover, the remaining Compressed Biscuit only had slightly smelly and dirty plastic packaging; the inside was perfectly fine!
Xianxian and Lime had switched to another backpack that contained compressed beef, Compressed Biscuit, and a bottle of mineral water. This was just in case; if we really got separated, they wouldn't starve to death.
Yang Bin and the others came out from The Dead again. Thus, the three of us along with a few ghosts headed towards the dark underground...
