Chapter 229: Cultivator, Modifier
What is real? What is illusory?
"Bang bang bang..." Waves of gunfire echoed in my ears. I turned around abruptly, listening intently to the gunshots that seemed so close.
The gunfire continued. When I turned back, the view above the Flower of Life had completely vanished, as if it had never existed. Without thinking too much, I immediately ran down the stairs. As I reached the "door," it opened automatically, and I followed the direction of the gunfire.
There were only a few of us who had come here; it was very likely that they were the ones firing!
I couldn't wait to see them and share everything I had seen, known, and guessed with them for discussion!
Since entering the tomb, I had begun to think that the Divine Sign referred to immortality, but now it seemed that this might not be the case!
Since coming into contact with the Azure Dragon Organization, I had learned about the secrets hidden in this world. Especially after arriving at this place, I seemed to have encountered even deeper secrets! These secrets were things I had never heard of or encountered before; everything was unknown, everything was so astonishing!
What secrets did Qin Shi Huang know? Why did he resist?
Human civilizations are merely food in the mouths of planetary controllers.
Is what your eyes see truly real?
Is everything you see the truth?
In fact, what is perceived by the naked eye is a limited illusion; the true reality is a combination of the spiritual realm and the Material Realm.
This world contains far too many things we do not know! Endless conspiracies! The rebellion of Cyborgs! The control of the controllers!
God Alliance, Divine Decree Project... what is History really like!?
Who is controlling this game called Earth? Who is playing it? The so-called History of humanity is not entirely true!
Having absorbed too much information at once, my thoughts have become a bit chaotic. I desperately want to find a place to sort through all the events, from the evolution of immortality to the deeper secrets of the present. I can no longer stop my quest for exploration!
I cannot bear to live in an Illusory World any longer. I cannot stand living like an idiot, lost in a daze, while turning a blind eye to the deeply hidden truths!
As the situation twists and turns, gunfire grows closer. At the same time, I see a faint light shining ahead. I eagerly run toward it, but unexpectedly, another gunshot rings out. I feel a swift rush of air coming toward me, and in that moment, I instinctively step aside and shout, "It's me! Don't shoot!"
"Hey, Fengfeng!" Xianxian excitedly calls out and then scolds the person next to him who fired the gun, saying, "Don't startle me like that! If you hurt my brother, I'll take you down!"
"Tch." The person scoffs dismissively at Xianxian's threat, showing no concern at all. "If you could take me down!" As I approach, I see there is no one around and curiously ask, "What are you shooting at?" I look around again to confirm there is nothing.
Xianxian playfully pats me on the shoulder and grins, "Just because there's nothing doesn't mean we can't shoot! Besides, didn't we find you?"
I twitch my mouth; what does it mean to say they found me? As if I had gone missing! However, I don't have time to criticize him right now and ask, "How did you two end up together? Have you seen anyone else?"
"I haven't seen anyone else. But this is a long story; back then I..." Just as Xianxian is about to recount his experiences and how he met Yu Yu, I quickly pull him toward a corner and say, "If it's a long story, then let's skip it. As long as you're okay."
"Hey! How can you do that? You want to hear it one moment and then don't let me talk the next!" Xianxian glares at me unhappily as if I'm some kind of villain.
I chuckle lightly; it was just a casual question. I didn't force him to answer.
"Feng Xiao Ge, where did you come from?" Yu Yu asks as he puts away his gun and walks toward us. Seeing his relaxed demeanor and the hint of vigilance in his eyes, I know he is not an easy character.
"What do you mean where did I come from? My home Fengfeng is definitely real!" Xianxian firmly supports me.
I realize that Yu Yu is doubting whether I'm real or fake. After all, I've seen the bodies of Xianxian and Pei Zi. The illusions here are too powerful; if he doesn't doubt me, then I would have to doubt him instead. However, having someone like Xianxian who unconditionally believes in me is indeed a great blessing!
But Yu Yu disdainfully glances at Xianxian and says, "How do you know he's real? Didn't you say that before? And what happened then? Do you remember?"
"What a mess." Xianxian rolled his eyes and started to play dumb. "This Lord says he knows, so he knows. This Fengfeng is definitely the real deal!"
I shook my head and smiled. It seemed they had also noticed the "fake goods." However, just as Xianxian believed I was genuine, I believed he was too, simply because of a feeling.
Some people pretend too well, but they are still fakes. Just like some things, no matter how real they seem, there will eventually come a day when the lies are exposed.
"Let's not talk about that for now. Xianxian, have you heard of the 'Flower of Life'?" Although I hadn't sorted out my thoughts yet, it wasn't bad to analyze things together with him at this moment.
"Flower of Life?" Xianxian blinked and thought for a moment before saying, "I don't know! Never heard of it..."
Xianxian generally wouldn't lie to me, except for deliberate lies that were obvious. So since even Xianxian didn't know about it, it seemed like a big deal! Perhaps noticing my serious expression, Xianxian also put away his joking demeanor and looked at me with a serious face, asking, "What did you discover?"
"Yes." I nodded and was about to speak when I saw Xianxian wave his hand at Yu Yu and say, "Young Master Yu, my Fengfeng and I have some private matters to discuss; you can step aside."
However, Yu Yu lazily sat down on the ground and glanced at us. "How can you treat your lifesaver like this when I am considered your savior?"
Xianxian's mouth twitched, seemingly quite helpless towards this person. Although I didn't fully trust Yu Yu, I didn't sense any hostility or bad feelings either, so I said, "It's fine; having more people to analyze things is good."
Seeing me say this, Xianxian didn't insist on making Yu Yu leave. So I recounted how I separated from Xue Er, met Luo Yu, and what happened after entering the Black Gate.
"What? Your finger got half eaten by the door?" Xianxian incredulously reached out to grab my severed finger. My right index finger was still wrapped in gauze by me, and the bloodstains had once again soaked through the gauze without me noticing.
"That's not the key point!" I said helplessly as I pulled my hand back and carefully described what I saw on the Round Gemstone. During this time, both Xianxian and Yu Yu didn't say a word; however, their expressions grew increasingly incredulous and serious as I spoke.
"God? Cultivator? And Cyborg? Hehe, are you guys writing a novel?" After hearing this, Yu Yu laughed while holding his stomach.
At this moment, Xianxian didn't retort Yu Yu but looked at me seriously and analyzed, "So you're saying that those 'Cultivators' resisting the God Alliance are actually the Demon Clan? And those who have been modified... could it be!!?" Xianxian suddenly seemed to realize something and looked at me in disbelief.
I nodded. If the God Alliance existed, then those Cultivators resisting under its oppression were very likely the Demon Clan!
Cultivator is merely a term, as the hints above have already indicated. Those so-called Cultivators are actually just stronger than ordinary humans! Achieving immortality is nothing but an illusion in the eyes of ordinary humans! Under the oppression of the God Alliance, the Demon Clan is striving to enhance their abilities, escaping from the control of a certain group of people. A more fitting term for them would be—Awakened Ones!
As for those who have been modified...
The God Alliance hopes to create beings with similar abilities and thought processes to themselves, to replace them in certain tasks, which initiated their research. Those who were successfully modified gained powerful brains, but what about those who failed? Human vitality can be weak or strong, but it should not be underestimated. For those who failed in modification, if they did not die, what would they become?
Like Xianxian, I also think of those Living Dead—Shara!
Legend has it that Shara were contaminated by some kind of “Exotic Foreign Substance! We all know they were originally human and considered themselves deeper Grave Robbers connected to the Divine Sign! But now it seems they resemble what we now refer to as Modifiers!
As for whether they are successful or failed modifications, it remains uncertain for now. However, I lean towards believing they are the ones who failed.
Because it was mentioned that Modifiers learned some techniques from the God Alliance, and knowing they were merely used for experimentation, they developed bold ideas of rebellion! Those who dare to challenge such a powerful force as the God Alliance and drive them off Earth must possess considerable strength. Therefore, I believe that those who directly took up arms against them are the successful modifications, while the failed humans are the “contaminated” Shara.
Successful modifications and failed ones are certainly different. Currently, we only see the Shara, but what about another type of person? What do they look like? Where are they now, and what plans are they preparing?
At this point in my analysis, another major question arises—what about Luo Ruyun and their group...
We can imagine that those modified in that era became Shara, but what about Luo Ruyun and their group? They are modern individuals, yet they too have become Shara! Why is this happening? How much more is there that we have yet to notice?
Things are becoming increasingly bizarre; everything feels chaotic...
