Chapter 212: The Fluorescent Path in the Desert
It was another bone-chilling night, and the starry sky tonight was particularly dim. The moon hung alone in the inky sky, its light seemingly faded by the black wind. The entire space was heavy with Death Qi, as if brewing an unknown conspiracy.
No one had slept; everyone stood on the desolate sand, gazing at the night sky and the unknown dark distance.
The atmosphere was eerily oppressive. Somehow, I felt deep down that tonight would not be peaceful. In the darkness, it seemed as if something was lurking, waiting to launch a fierce attack on us at any moment.
Moreover, I believed others felt this ominous presence too, which was why we had gathered together. After all, there is an inexplicable sense of security in numbers.
None of the ninety people from the Spirit Department who had gone out had returned. This unusual situation made me even more anxious. I trusted Jiang Feng and his team's abilities; even without clues, his cautious nature would ensure someone would come back to inform me. Yet, a whole day had passed, and those ninety people seemed to have vanished into thin air!
"What are we doing standing here? After a whole day of travel, aren't you all tired?" Yu Yu leaned against the vehicle and asked in confusion.
"Don't you feel that tonight's atmosphere seems different from the past few days?" Xianxian spoke up, ignoring Yu Yu's question and addressing everyone present.
Before we could respond, we heard Yu Yu laugh lightly, "Different atmosphere? What kind of nose do you have to smell that?"
Xianxian's mention of a different atmosphere was not just a joke; everyone could tell that. I thought Yu Yu wouldn't be an exception either. His comment was merely playful banter. Xianxian didn't bother to argue with him now; instead, she looked ahead and said, "Regardless, we need to increase the number of night watchmen tonight. Fengfeng, have your people come back."
I thought the same way but replied, "I don't think that's possible."
Huh? As soon as I said this, not only did Xianxian look at me, but others also turned their puzzled gazes toward me. I had no choice but to explain that those sent out had yet to contact me again, and I didn't know where they were.
"Is that so? No wonder I haven't seen them since last night; I thought my heavenly eye had gone blind!" Xianxian said thoughtfully.
"Wait, wait, wait! You guys are saying... the people we sent out, how come I didn't know about it? Are we short on people in our team?" Yu Yu said, extending a finger to count the number of people.
No one paid attention to Yu Yu's astonishment. Pei Zi calmly said, "From what I know about Old Ginger, whether or not there are any clues, he would definitely send someone back to inform us..."
Since the Spirit Department gained the ability to let them see whoever they wanted to see, it was clear that Jiang Feng had also communicated with Pei Zi. Although I wasn't present at that moment, their joy at reuniting after a long time was undeniable.
"What if they encountered some danger and got trapped?" Wang Yi said anxiously.

"Feng, look over there!" Just as I was lost in thought, Xue Er suddenly grabbed my arm and whispered in my ear.
At her words, I raised my head and looked in the direction she pointed. Although her voice wasn't loud, the surrounding silence meant everyone heard it, and for a moment, everyone turned to look.
The instant I looked over, I was stunned. I didn't know when it had started, but not far away, what had once been a pitch-black night had suddenly revealed a winding Green Fluorescent Band, resembling a giant glowing dragon that inexplicably made my heart race.
The green glow clung closely to the sandy ground like a stream. It started here and extended far into the distance; the scene was incredibly spectacular. I had no idea what it was made of or where it led. It appeared so suddenly, so strangely, and was so shocking!
"Quick! Follow it!" Pei Zi shouted loudly. We immediately sprang into action. While others packed their things, Xue Er, Xianxian, Pei Zi, Yu Yu, and I quickly got into the car and sped off in pursuit.
"What is that thing?" Xianxian rolled down the window and leaned halfway out to ask.
"Who knows? Let's catch up first!" I also leaned out of the window, looking at the distant Green Fluorescent Band. I thought that with Yu Yu's speed, we should have closed quite a bit of distance by now; however, it seemed like we had only caught up a little bit?
Maybe it was my impatience; after a while, Yu Yu suddenly slammed on the brakes. Due to inertia, the three of us sitting in the back lurched forward. In that instant, I reflexively grabbed Xue Er to prevent her from hitting me. After bumping into me, her chest began to ache again; however, none of that mattered for now.
It seemed like we had all agreed silently; after the car stopped, we opened the doors and stepped outside.
"Oh my, this..." Yu Yu exclaimed, his mouth agape in astonishment, unsure of what to say.
I could hardly believe my eyes; right beneath our feet, a half-meter-wide Green Fluorescent Band stretched out before us. I crouched down and touched the green glow, but it felt like smoke—there was no sensation at all. If someone were blind, they wouldn't notice it at all.
We exchanged glances and saw the eagerness in each other's eyes. Pei Zi turned to Yu Yu and said, "Yu Yu, could you please go back and bring Wang Yi and the others over? The four of us will move forward while we wait for you."
"Why do I have to go back?" Yu Yu replied with a reluctant expression, his beautiful face appearing somewhat enchanting under the glow.
"Because this mission is very important, and we trust you the most with it," Xianxian added.
Yu Yu scoffed, "I don't see how this mission is that important. I think you're just trying to send me away."
"We'll scout ahead; if there's any danger, we can warn everyone..." Before I could finish, Yu Yu rolled his eyes. "I'm not afraid of any danger."
Seeing his stubbornness left us at a loss. Time was of the essence; who knew when this fluorescent band would disappear?
Just as I was about to suggest that we all go together, Xue Er spoke up: "I'll go get them; you all be careful." After giving me a reassuring look, she quickly got into the car and prepared to head back.
I nodded, and then the four of us—Xianxian, Pei Zi, Yu Yu, and I—immediately followed the Green Fluorescent Band forward.
As for why we weren't driving, it was because it would be hard to spot any clues from the car. Especially in such a bizarre situation, being on foot allowed us to feel and discover more clues.
The idea of fetching Wang Yi and the others was merely a ruse; we didn't know what dangers lay ahead. It was better to keep the noble second young master of the Yu Family out of harm's way so we wouldn't have to explain anything later. However, I was quite satisfied with having Xue Er go instead.
"Did you notice its color is fading?" Pei Zi remarked. I immediately felt that the Green Light indeed seemed much dimmer than before. This was bad!
"Let's pick up the pace!" Xianxian shouted. The four of us quickly ran along the path formed by the fluorescent band.
During the run, I did not feel anything unusual. The air was normal; the temperature was also normal. However, this Fluorescent Path appeared too bizarre. Even if there was really nothing wrong, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off! This strange sensation was overwhelming. Not to mention that we had never heard of Tengri experiencing such phenomena, but considering our purpose for coming here, the timing of this Fluorescent Path's appearance filled me with inexplicable excitement!
The stranger, the better!
If everything remained calm without any incidents, that would truly be worrisome! I wondered where this path led. Would its destination be where we needed to go? Although I didn't believe such a great fortune could happen, I couldn't help but hope.
"Wait!" Pei Zi, who was running in front, suddenly stopped. All four of us were relatively fit, so even after running this far, we weren't out of breath.
"What are we stopping for?" Yu Yu asked in confusion.
I squinted my eyes, sensing the atmosphere around us while listening to the sounds nearby, and said, "There's a noise ahead!"
"Are you sure it's not just the wind?" Yu Yu asked uncertainly.
"Little Phoenix is right; I think I heard it too," Pei Zi said calmly as he looked ahead.
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Xianxian said, reaching for his waist to pull out his exquisite Desert Eagle pistol. After throwing out that line, he carefully moved forward quickly.
We all drew our weapons. Perhaps influenced by Lime, I found that I preferred using a knife over a gun! So, I directly took out my sharp black sword from The Dead. I named it Black Blade. Although I didn't know who forged it or what materials were used, I had to say that this Black Blade was my favorite weapon! It was incredibly sharp and just the right length—not too long or too short—making it very comfortable to use.
The four of us cautiously moved forward as the cold wind howled through the night, yet it couldn't mask the chaotic cries echoing in the darkness. It sounded like human screams and animal wails; the night was as dark as ink, and the cries were like those from hell...
