Chapter 200: Cultural City of Huai'an
Time flies, and in the blink of an eye, we have arrived in Huai'an, Jiangsu.
Huai'an City is a cultural city in China's history, located in the central part of Jiangsu Province, and is one of the twenty-two core members of the Yangtze River Delta.
Huai'an is situated at the intersection of the Huai River and the Grand Canal, serving as the center of Jianghuai culture. Since ancient times, it has been a hub for water transport and a crucial point between the north and south. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was known alongside Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Yangzhou as one of the four major cities along the canal, earning it the title "Canal City."
From a historical and cultural perspective, Huai'an has long been referred to as "Southern Boats and Northern Horses." Historically, people from Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, and other regions would disembark at Huai'an to switch to horse-drawn carriages heading north. Conversely, people from the north would abandon their carriages to take boats southward. Thus, it is evident that Huai'an has always been a watershed between the north and south.
Some may wonder why we chose to come to Huai'an among so many cities in Jiangsu.
This is primarily because Wang Yi and his companions came here. The reason? As they put it: "Since we are in Jiangsu, we must visit another significant figure in our history besides **—Zhou Enlai!"
The Zhou Enlai Memorial Museum was built specifically to commemorate Comrade Zhou Enlai's remarkable achievements. It is located in Peach Blossom Bank in northern Huai'an City, constructed on an artificial peninsula surrounded by water on three sides.
Zhou Enlai stands as a monumental figure of his era who can inspire Chinese youth to strive for progress and study for the rise of China! Wang Yi also shares this heroic sentiment, which is why they came to visit this place.
Moreover, having come to Huai'an and witnessing its development, Wang Yi is considering purchasing a small villa here for future visits. After all, the traffic is smooth and the environment is pleasant; this was my observation after arriving here.
So how did Wang Yi realize he was being followed?
This story begins when they left the Zhou Enlai Museum heading towards Wu Cheng'en Former Residence. Wu Cheng'en is a figure well-known among Chinese people; he is indeed the author of "Journey to the West." The Wu Cheng'en Former Residence has become a famous tourist attraction, welcoming thousands of visitors from home and abroad.
With nothing else to do, Wang Yi and his companions wandered around aimlessly. They stumbled upon being followed by someone. In the following days, they felt a sense of "unfreedom," knowing they had encountered some individuals with unclear backgrounds. Although they were on vacation during this time, they remained vigilant; thus, those people's schemes had not yet succeeded.
...
"Where are you now?" After connecting the call, Xianxian asked Wang Yi.
"Master Xian, have you all arrived? We can barely hold on, I'll send you the address!" Wang Yi's voice was urgent, and it was clear there were sounds of fighting in the background.
Xianxian said they would be there soon, then drove off without revealing where we were headed. Since I was sitting in the back, I didn't ask where we were going; for now, it was best to conserve our energy. I had a feeling that an intense battle was ahead!
By the way, I haven't mentioned that this time we only have three people: besides me and Xianxian, there's only Pei Zi.
Xianxian was worried that Snow Princess might be harmed by those ruthless individuals, so she had Cold Snow take her to Beijing. After all, two girls together would have things to talk about. As for the Black Bear and Big Dragon, they naturally acted as our bodyguards.
I lost track of how long we had been driving or where Xianxian was heading. After several days, we finally reached our destination.
The terrain in Huai'an is relatively flat with no mountains, so the place we arrived at was just a small hill, about one or two hundred meters high. By the time we parked, the sun was setting, and there were hardly any people around. I drove the car into The Dead and let the Spirit Department members out to search for Wang Yi and his group. Xianxian and I continued walking along a small path.
"Are you sure they're here?" I asked Xianxian.
"Should be," Xianxian replied while checking her phone and determining the direction. I leaned over to take a look and saw a map on her screen with a red arrow moving on it. "This..."
"Oh, this," Xianxian smirked. "I put a tracker on him; see how convenient this is!" She said proudly, almost as if she wanted to add "Look how foresighted This Lord is."
Thanks to our combined efforts, we finally managed to meet up with Wang Yi and his group. Wang Yi looked astonished when he saw us, unable to close his mouth. "Master Xian? Brother Feng? And Pei Zi? You all got here pretty fast!"
"I won't tell you that someone put a tracker on you," I said with a smile at Wang Yi. In fact, he seemed to know this himself.
"How long have you been here? What about those people?" Pei Zi asked directly.
I turned to Wang Yi, who was scratching the back of his head with a grin. "It's been a few days. There are more trees here and fewer people, making it easier to move around. As for those guys, they probably ran off somewhere hidden!" Speaking of this made Wang Yi angry. "Master Xian, they have some weapons and aren't weak; they've all trained! If it weren't for not wanting to attract attention, I would have taken them out already!"
"Don't worry; they won't escape!" I crossed my arms and gazed into the unknown distance; I wanted to see who they really were!
"Alright, everyone take a break; I'm sure we'll find out where those people are hiding soon," Xianxian yawned, laid down a mat on the ground, and leaned against a tree to rest.
The meaning of Xianxian is clear to everyone. Who is looking for it? Naturally, it's the people from the Spirit Department. There are over ninety members in the Spirit Department, and I have mobilized all of them. Moreover, due to Jiang Feng and He Cheng, the cohesion among the members of the Ghost Alliance has strengthened, and they have been divided into several small teams, each full of enthusiasm. As soon as they heard I had a mission, everyone was eager to get started, looking quite invigorated.
"It's really convenient to have such a team!" Pei Zi said enviously.
I smiled, "Brother Pei, if you need anything, I can send someone to support you at any time!"
"Haha, that would be great!" Pei Zi laughed as well. "If the day comes when I need help, I won't hold back!"
"That's the best!"
...
Although it was supposed to be a rest, after such a long journey and with my various frustrations, I just couldn't fall asleep. So, I began to close my eyes and rest. I remembered that Lime liked to close his eyes and relax whenever he had nothing to do. Although I didn't know if he really cleared his mind when he closed his eyes, I could say that my thoughts were still chaotic, and I couldn't calm down.
Finally, when I received a signal from someone, I suddenly opened my eyes and immediately woke up, ready to move out!
"We've identified a few suspicious individuals, but they are all asleep now!" This was what the person who came to report said. I relayed this to the others, and Xianxian immediately agreed: "Of course! Just look at what time it is; if they weren't sleeping, how could they have the energy to confront us?"
"Do you think they'll be startled when they see us?" Xianxian said mischievously. Suddenly realizing something, he turned to Wang Yi and asked, "Do you think they have weapons?"
"Yes!" Wang Yi nodded affirmatively. "They have knives and guns!"
"I see..." Xianxian said while walking and stroking his chin. Suddenly, his eyes lit up as he looked at me and grinned: "Fengfeng, can I borrow something from you?"
Raising an eyebrow, although I had an idea of what he wanted, I still asked, "What?"
"Come on, you must have guessed it already!" Xianxian's expression became even more peculiar and... mischievous. Unable to stand his expression any longer, I quickly thought of something small that appeared in my hand—a dark mass that seemed to blend completely with the night like ink. However, Xianxian happily reached out for it, holding it up to his face with a grin and saying: "Little Black, you must listen to this Lord's commands later; otherwise, you won't be allowed to go back!"
"Master Xian, who are you talking to?" Wang Yi asked with a puzzled yet curious expression. Pei Zi also raised an eyebrow, looking at me and Xianxian, clearly wanting to know as well.
"Ha ha, didn't this Lord just call out a name?" Xianxian said triumphantly, laughing mockingly.
Wang Yi scratched his head, feeling even more confused, with several big question marks appearing in his mind: "Little Black? Is it Little Black? Who is Little Black?"
Xianxian did not answer immediately but instead asked mysteriously, "Do you remember that time on the Heart Immortal Path? It was right after we discovered the Flesh Buddha?"
"Oh! I remember!" Wang Yi nodded. "That night, we seemed to have encountered something unclean!"
"Did you really think it was something unclean?" Xianxian smiled mysteriously, instantly piquing Wang Yi's curiosity. He hurriedly asked, "Master Xian, what exactly happened? You have to tell me! It's making me itch with curiosity!"
"Here." Xianxian clapped his hand and spread it out in front of Wang Yi and Pei Zi. Both of them leaned in to look. After a while, Wang Yi puzzledly said, "There's nothing here!"
Xianxian unhesitatingly slapped the back of Wang Yi's head: "You’re being careless. Look more closely; how do I usually teach you?"
"Yes, yes, yes!" Wang Yi gritted his teeth and stared for a moment longer before finally raising his head and saying, "Master Xian, are you talking about that little clump of black thing in your palm?"
"Is it a bug?" Pei Zi also asked curiously.
Just as Pei Zi finished speaking, Little Black voiced its dissatisfaction: "You're the bug; your whole family is bugs..." I could hear Little Black's angry curses, but those three probably only heard the pitiful cries of Yinyin.
Wang Yi was startled and almost jumped up. Pei Zi, however, seemed much calmer and suddenly looked up and said, "Could this be..."
