The waiting time was excruciating, and soon rhythmic snoring echoed in the room.
We all sat against the wall. Despite wearing thick clothing, I could still feel a chill creeping up my back and beneath me. Inside the "room," aside from the massive ice block in the center and the strange ice figures appearing in the northwest, there was nothing else.
Looking at those four lifelike ice figures, I couldn't help but wonder if the ice figures we had seen earlier also originated from here. If so, why had they ended up in that deep cave?
While I was lost in thought, a clear female voice suddenly rang out, "It's solved!"
Upon hearing this, everyone got up and walked toward Cold Snow. At that moment, Cold Snow's expression was no longer her usual cold demeanor; instead, she frowned, looking troubled as if the calculations had surprised her.
"What does it say?" everyone asked eagerly.
Cold Makeup did not respond immediately; instead, she gazed at the suddenly appearing ice figures with a complex expression. "Although not everything has been deciphered, the general meaning is like this."
Almost everyone held their breath, quietly listening as Cold Snow slowly spoke.
Crimson Lips opened and closed as Cold Snow's tone remained calm, yet we felt "a chill run down our spines." Cold Snow didn't say much, but one crucial piece of information emerged: Bagua divination—divining the future!
Divining the future sounded like a magical thing! Throughout our lives, we had heard or seen various mythological stories where fate could not be defied, yet Diviners could predict future events and alter destiny. Yes, this was merely a myth. Perhaps one day you would hear someone claim they could foresee the future, and you would either disbelieve or scoff at them.
Just like now, what they heard was this shocking and exhilarating yet unbelievable news!
"No way!" Black Bear and the others swallowed hard, their faces filled with astonishment.
"Did they really predict we would come?" Wang Yi also looked surprised but remained relatively calm since he had seen more of the world.
Cold Snow looked determined. "It can't be wrong; what is written here is a prophecy! It predicts that a thousand years later, these people will come here!" As she spoke, she pointed at the ice people with a resolute expression.
A prophecy, predicting the future! Did the ancients already foresee that we would arrive here? At this moment, I was at a loss for words. However, thinking of The Dead, I felt a sense of relief; the stronger those individuals were, the more interested I became!
"So what about the outcome? Does it say what our Afterwards will be?" After digesting this fact, Black Bear eagerly asked.
Cold Snow shook her head.
"Then what is the purpose of these four ice people? Why are there only three?"
Cold Snow continued to shake her head, indicating that it wasn't written above, and she didn't know.
"Forget it; let's just take it one step at a time!" Xianxian said with a hint of resignation.
I nodded and looked at Pei Zi, who seemed lost in thought. I couldn't help but ask, "Brother Pei, are you thinking of something?" It seemed that ever since Cold Snow revealed those words' meaning, Pei Zi had fallen silent.
"Hmm?" Pei Zi looked up at me, smiled lightly, and said, "No, I was just wondering whether this place is naturally formed or artificially created."
As soon as Pei Zi finished speaking, I heard a sharp intake of breath. "This place must be naturally formed! How could it possibly be man-made? No way! Absolutely impossible!" Black Bear shook his head vigorously, showing an attitude that he wouldn't believe it even if someone tried to convince him otherwise.
Pei Zi merely smiled at this and did not respond.
"Hey, Brother Qing, where are you going?" Wang Yi's voice suddenly brought us back to reality. Everyone turned to look at Lime, who had already shouldered his backpack and was holding a sword, ready to leave.
"What are you doing here?" Lime retorted with a question. Although there was no obvious impatience on his face, I could tell he found the current situation quite dull!
That made sense; we had been here for so long without anything unusual happening besides the appearance of the ice people and that prophecy. It seemed that staying any longer would just be a waste of time.
We packed our things and continued deeper inside. This time, we used the same method as before. The ice here, while not very solid, still required a lot of effort to break with tools like knives or shovels, and explosives were not an option, so we had to rely on fire!
Water and fire cannot coexist, and similarly, ice and fire are two extremes. When these two extremes collide, it always results in mutual destruction. Thus, the fire extinguished and the ice melted.
There was only one way leading to this Ice Cave, which was the slope we had slid down earlier. Therefore, if we wanted to leave, we could only carve out a new path from this Ice Cave since retracing our steps would be futile.
Having learned from our previous experience, we made ample preparations this time. Wang Yi took the lead again, and one of the flamethrowers was already in his bag for safekeeping. Although Black Bear and Wang Yi had already recounted everything that had happened along the way to the others, everyone still expressed surprise and awe upon seeing the flamethrower.
"Sun Cheng, go to the back and take a picture of that," I said directly to Sun Cheng, who was currently in The Dead. He was happy to take on this task, so he nodded, put his phone in his pocket, indicating he was ready to act at any moment. Seeing this made me smile slightly as I let him go without anyone noticing.
It wasn't that I didn't trust Cold Snow not to deceive us; it was just that for certain things we didn't understand well enough, it was better to check multiple times to feel secure. What is in our hands is the most reliable.
This place was filled with ice, particularly strange red ice blocks. The people from the Spirit Department couldn't penetrate these ice blocks and thus had no idea where the exit lay ahead. We could only proceed without any clear direction.
This world had already overturned our normal worldview, making typical human thoughts and ideas completely useless here. However, I didn't think we were special individuals. While we might seem somewhat unique in certain aspects, overall, we were just ordinary people living in this Vast World.
The sound of dripping water echoed repeatedly amidst the surrounding silence; apart from the chaotic footsteps, there were uneven breathing sounds. Time passed second by second, yet there was still no end in sight; it felt as if this place could never be excavated!
Until Wang Yi's flamethrower ran out of fuel, the oppressive atmosphere could no longer maintain silence. "Are we going to keep digging like this?" Yuguo seemed exhausted, his lips slightly purple from the cold. In fact, everyone's complexion was poor; despite wearing thick clothing, we mustn't forget that this is an icy world. No matter how many layers we wore, there would always be tiny gaps in our clothes through which the cold could seep in.
"Is it possible we'll never reach an end?" Black Bear's eyes revealed traces of despair and fear.
"Actually, I've been thinking," Xianxian's voice suddenly broke through. "What could be above us?"
"Above?" I raised an eyebrow. "Are you suggesting we should head upwards?" I pointed at the ice blocks above us. It was clear that saying such a thing sounded ridiculous because with our strength, breaking through the ice above us was impossible. But no one laughed; perhaps we all wanted to explore what lay above.
Xianxian's lips curved into a faint smile as her bright eyes opened wide. "How would we know if we don't try?" She looked at Wang Yi with sparkling eyes. Although she didn't say a word, Wang Yi hesitated after seeing such a gaze and awkwardly asked, "Master Xian, do we really have to do this?"
"How do we do it? What should we do?" the uninformed individuals quickly asked.
However, neither Xianxian nor Wang Yi offered any explanation. They simply exchanged glances, one with eyes shining with determination and the other filled with confusion and a hint of worry. When Xianxian revealed a smile that was neither fully a smile nor a frown, I already knew what she was planning. Still, at this moment, it was indeed a method worth considering.
As they stared at each other, Wang Yi ultimately conceded. He sighed and nodded resolutely, "If this approach is beneficial for our current situation, then we have no choice but to proceed!"
To the others, Wang Yi's words seemed quite perplexing. Pei Zi looked at me with confusion, hoping I could provide some clarity. "This..."
"Xianxian wants to blast a way out!" I said to Pei Zi with a smile.
As soon as I finished speaking, Xianxian laughed, "That will require your help, won't it?"
When Xianxian said this, she was looking at me with her fox-like eyes sparkling with mischief. Just as everyone was about to ask more questions, Xianxian patted my shoulder and said, "You should contribute all the gunpowder and kerosene you have!"
"What do we need kerosene for?" Black Bear asked in confusion.
Wang Yi seemed exasperated and replied curtly, "What else would we use it for? Naturally, it's for the ignition. Do you want to be buried alive?"
"So it seems we only have this option left?" Yuguo asked with a frown, clearly worried.
"I actually think Immortal Brother's method is quite good!" Pei Zi said with a gentle smile, admiring Xianxian. "The flamethrower has limited capacity, while the ice here is infinite. Continuing straight like this isn't a solution. Although using explosives would be very destructive, at least we still have an option!"
