Although we were setting off, we were just wandering aimlessly.
The space here is vast, yes, extremely vast! Everywhere there are crystal-clear ice blocks, and everything that has been sent here has turned into frozen specimens, covered by thick layers of ice. We haven't bothered to dig any holes; we've already wasted too much time!
"Is this really the bottom of the sea? What kind of structure is this!" I couldn't help but exclaim. Damn it, looking up I can't see the blue sky or white clouds, but there is indeed light here, as if we are in the North or South Pole.
"Who cares what kind of structure it is? We'll just blow it up when the time comes!" Xianxian said disdainfully.
I smiled helplessly, "Do we really have to be so violent!"
Xianxian snorted coldly, "That's just how willful I am! What’s wrong? Come bite me if you have an opinion!"
"OK, I won't discuss this topic with you anymore!" I conceded; at this moment, I really wasn't in the mood for jokes.
He Cheng and the other six people were carrying guns and backpacks, all eagerly surveying their surroundings. It seemed like it was their first time out in a long while.
"Have you guys never been out before?" I asked as we walked.
He Cheng smiled helplessly, "Of course we wanted to come out; it's just that for some reason, we couldn't."
Couldn't get out? I frowned in confusion. "Could it be the effect of the ice layer?"
"I think that's very likely!" Xiaofan nodded repeatedly.
I nodded in agreement. Logically speaking, there should be no fewer than a hundred people who have perished here. I don't believe that all the souls sacrificed here have been transcended. So since we haven't seen any other 'things,' it can only be explained that the objects here are very special, especially this ice; perhaps this ice has sealed the souls of those inside, preventing them from coming out.
"Old He, Old He, there are a few people ahead!" Sun Cheng suddenly flashed in front of us from ten meters away, his purple face gleaming with joy.
"People? How many?" I quickly asked, and both Xianxian and Lime looked over as well.
Sun Cheng raised his finger and said, "Two!"
"Lead the way!" As soon as the words left my mouth, Xianxian dashed forward. I had no choice but to quicken my pace and follow Sun Cheng. Sure enough, it wasn't long before I saw two figures lying on the ice ahead. One was slightly larger, while the other appeared smaller and thinner. Due to the diving suits and mud, I couldn't immediately tell who they were.
"It's Wang Yi and Black Bear!" Xianxian had already crouched down to check their identities.
"Hurry and change their clothes!" Xiao Fan said nervously from the side.
I nodded. Even without checking, I could see that their condition was dire; they were frozen and unresponsive, their bodies stiff and icy to the touch.
Without hesitation, I took out warm water and poured it over Wang Yi, who was completely naked and had a purple face. As the warm water hit them, the frozen muscles and mud began to steam. At that moment, Guo Fan, Sun Cheng, and a few others came over to help. After a great deal of effort, Wang Yi and Black Bear finally regained a bit of warmth.
I believed that if we had arrived even a moment later, these two would have frozen to death! I couldn't imagine what would have happened if we hadn't encountered Lime or if we hadn't had the artifact The Dead!
There was no signal for our phones here, no food or water; aside from freezing to death, we would starve! Fortunately, I had prepared plenty of food in advance, enough for everyone here to last more than a month. However, afterward, we would need to find an exit; food and water would eventually run out!
After wrapping them up completely like Zongzi from head to toe, I handed them over to Liu Quan and He Cheng, who dragged them away. I thought that if there were others here, they would surely be frightened by the sight of two people lying on the ground like Zongzi, sliding forward without any strength; such a high-difficulty maneuver looked quite bizarre.
Even Xianxian couldn't help but tease them a bit when he saw it, while Lime remained indifferent as usual.
I didn't know how long we walked; aside from these two individuals, we hadn't seen anyone else. Moreover, it was frustrating that there seemed to be no way out; everywhere looked the same—just wrecked ships and indistinct shapes of mud people encased in ice. In short, we were completely at a loss!
"How about calling for help from everyone here?" Sun Cheng suggested.
"That might work," I replied. "But with this thick layer of ice, the time and energy required to break through is unimaginable. So..." We could only rally a portion of people!
"Fengfeng." Xianxian suddenly leaned over with a mischievous grin. "Do you talk to yourself like this on the road? Wouldn't someone think you're crazy?"
"Crazy your sister! I'm perfectly normal!" I shot him a glare before running up to Lime with a smile. "Lime, I'm going to trouble you again!"
"Not a problem," Lime replied lightly.
"Are you sure you want to trouble him alone?" Xianxian toyed with the dagger in his hand, a teasing expression on his face, as if to say that This Lord was quite strong and could easily break through these obstacles. However, This Lord was in a bad mood right now, so come and ask me!
I chuckled a couple of times, holding my stomach as I said, "I just remembered that I'm really hungry. Let's eat first." Saying this, I took out a small pack of food and handed it to Lime, then sat down beside him to eat.
Xianxian was instantly dumbfounded, wailing, "What about my share? What about my share?!"
I raised an eyebrow and smiled innocently, "Are you hungry too? I didn't notice."
"You! You..." Xianxian's face turned red with anger, pointing at me but unable to say a word because he had already made a move to snatch it.
"Hand it over, or I'll... humph..." Xianxian grabbed my collar and waved the sharp dagger in front of me, as if saying that if I uttered a "no," he would stab me. His actions were almost like a robber's, eyes gleaming with intensity as he threatened.
"I won't give it!" I rolled my eyes, acting as if I were unbothered.
Xianxian was furious. "Fine! Fine! You'd rather die than yield, huh?"
Yes! I smiled without speaking.
"Good, very good!" Xianxian repeated "good" three times before extending his right hand and smiling sweetly, "Hand over the bread; I'm going to work!"
"Okay." I made a gesture and tossed Xianxian's portion of food to him. After catching it, he smacked his lips repeatedly while eating and glaring at me resentfully. I sat on the ice, lowered my head to nibble on the bread, completely ignoring his gaze.
Xianxian mumbled over there; after finally eating and drinking enough, it was time for us to take action. The three of us plus six Ghost Town members picked up our weapons and began to chip away at the ice in the not-too-big nor too-small cabin or submarine.
Heaven is fair; being human has its advantages, and being a ghost has its benefits too. Humans cannot see ghosts, but ghosts can see humans. Humans cannot touch ghosts, yet ghosts can inflict some level of damage on humans. Thus, even ghosts have their own significance for existing.
Each person was responsible for one area. Soon enough, first Lime went, then it was me and Xianxian, followed by He Cheng and his group. We all chipped away at the ice blocks and found frozen corpses inside each one. Although their numbers varied, so did the ghosts'. After some discussion and agreement, fortunately, everyone expressed their willingness to cooperate with The League of Shadows.
A total of ninety-four corpses were discovered, but there were only eighty-nine souls that had not yet reincarnated. Adding Jiang Song and He Cheng along with a group of Six People, there are currently ninety-six souls in total!
This time, it can be considered a blessing in disguise; who would have thought that the Spirit Department would either not recruit any ghosts or suddenly recruit over ninety at once!
“Master Xian, cough, cough, Brother Feng, Brother Qing, wait, wait, how did Brother Qing end up here?!” Wang Yi sat up, looking at us with surprise and excitement. From his face, which had turned from purple to a healthy red, it was clear he was recovering well, although he still looked a bit pale and weak.
“Oh, he naturally came to rescue us!”
Xianxian excitedly walked over, her eyes filled with admiration as she patted Wang Yi heavily on the shoulder. After making him cough from the force of her patting, Xianxian laughed heartily and said, “I knew you were tough; you came back to life even after being frozen like that! Not bad, not bad. If I lost such a capable subordinate, I wouldn’t know what to do!” Although her words were half-joking, Wang Yi grinned foolishly in response and nodded eagerly.
Moments later, a surprised howl broke the air. “Master Xian, where did these clothes come from? And these, these, and those?!” Wang Yi pointed at the clothes he was wearing and then at the food, water, and tools on the ground, his mouth agape in astonishment and disbelief.
“Oh, this?” Xianxian pointed at the broken ice with an indifferent expression. “Most of it was searched from inside. Of course, you Brother Qing played a crucial role in this. Hehe~”
Wang Yi swallowed hard, seemingly struggling to digest this reality. He muttered, “This can’t be a dream, right?” After saying that, he stretched out his arm to look at his hands and body in confusion. “I clearly remember being sucked into the mud by an extremely strong force; why am I not covered in dirt? Hey, we can’t be dead already, can we??”
Xianxian went up and slapped him on the back of the head, asking, “Does it hurt?”
Caught off guard by the slap, Wang Yi was momentarily stunned. Once he regained his senses, he nodded vigorously and exclaimed one word: “It hurts! Haha, looks like I’m really not dead!”
The feeling of surviving a disaster can only be deeply understood by those who have walked on the edge of death; there’s no need for excessive words—so long as one is alive, they can continue moving forward!
