"Looking inside, we couldn't figure out what was going on above. Let's go out and take a look!" Xianxian seemed interested as he and his brother put their arms around my shoulders.
"Okay." I nodded in agreement. Indeed, we all understood that it was very unsafe outside—absolutely unsafe! Where did the eerie white bones come from? Why hadn't we seen any shipwrecks? During our descent, not only had we not seen a single fish, but we also encountered strange humanoid shadows!
What intrigued me the most were those white bones outside. Where did all those bones come from? Even if they were from shipwrecked crew members, they should at least be found alongside the wreckage.
Although Wuma You and Black Bear were not too keen on diving, there were more people insisting on going down. So, after putting on our gear, we directly opened the door and swam out.
Inside, it didn't feel like much, but as soon as I hit the water, I felt a chilling sensation all over my body, and goosebumps instantly covered me. Fortunately, the wetsuits provided some warmth, and we had worn thick clothes underneath; otherwise, our legs would have cramped up from the cold!
When we swam to the front of the submarine, the underwater situation was brightly lit by our searchlights. One by one, white bones lay quietly on the muddy bottom. Although they remained motionless, I suddenly felt an ominous premonition.
"Are these human bones?" As I spoke, Wuma You had already dragged the large Big Dragon over. Despite visibly trembling, he recklessly approached the white bones in the mud.
"Xianxian, do you feel something off about the atmosphere around us?" Ignoring Wuma You and his group of onlookers, I asked Xianxian beside me.
Although Xianxian occasionally seemed unreliable, once in the water, he didn't rush over like Wuma You; instead, he carefully examined all the surroundings first.
Wang Yi heard my voice and swam back with some tension. "What's wrong?"
I didn't answer but quietly observed my surroundings. Although I couldn't see anything strange, there was an unsettling feeling in my heart. This was a sense of danger honed from multiple escapes in front of death; I trusted this feeling and chose not to act immediately.
"Bones!" Xianxian calmly thought for a moment before suddenly uttering those two words.
Just then, Wuma You let out a scream akin to a pig being slaughtered. I quickly looked up to see him flailing about while vigorously shaking off a white bone from his hand. Beside him, Big Dragon was doing his best to help pull at that bone.
"Damn it! This dead bone actually dared to bite me! Oh no! Pull it! Hurry up! It hurts like hell!" Wuma You shouted repeatedly while Pei Zi looked helplessly and told him to stop making a fuss. However, Wuma You not only didn't stop but flailed even more vigorously.
Perhaps in sync with Wuma You's screams, strange and chilling low growls suddenly echoed around us...
We immediately exchanged glances, almost simultaneously turning our heads to search for the source of the sound.
"Roar... Huh..."
The deep, low growl seemed to possess a terrifying power that penetrated the heart, reaching deep within. At this moment, everyone forgot to speak, standing dazed at the murky bottom of the water, quietly listening.
At this moment, my muscles were tense, vigilantly observing the movements around me, searching for the source of the sound. The ominous premonition in my heart grew stronger, and just then, I clearly saw that the white bones had moved!
"Get into the submarine!" I shouted loudly, regardless of anything else, grabbing Xianxian and swimming back.
"What’s wrong?" Xianxian hadn’t finished her sentence when she suddenly gasped and cursed, then swam even faster than I did.
Yuguo clearly still didn’t understand the situation, sneering and sarcastically saying, "I told you so. Hmph, so-called Tomb Raiding professionals, just a bunch of..." At this point, Yuguo's voice suddenly stopped. I looked back in confusion and saw that the bones that had been stuck in the mud were now floating up one by one and trembling as if warming up.
"If you have the guts, just stand there! Running back is just pathetic!" Wang Yi cursed casually as if it were part of his daily routine, flowing smoothly without pause.
Yuguo spat and swam towards us like a bullet. "Damn it, I'm not an idiot! I’ll go wherever I want; I don’t need your damn advice!"
"Pei Ge! Pei Ge! Help me! This thing won’t let go of my finger!" Wuma You swam over to Pei Zi, shouting loudly.
I took a moment to glance over and saw Pei Zi without hesitation throw a punch. All I heard was Wuma You scream again as that white bone fell down with a whoosh.
I couldn’t help but smile slightly, no longer doubting Pei Zi's "special" identity. Just based on his decision-making ability and calmness in this critical moment, it was clear he was not an ordinary Tomb Raider.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my back. I turned around to see a piece of black bone pressed against me. No, that wasn’t a bone! I stared in shock at what was on my back, almost forgetting to react until Xianxian slapped away the black "bone" on my back and icy water surged into my body. Only then did I fully come to my senses.
Damn!
The wetsuit had been bitten through by that black thing! In just a few seconds, my clothes were completely soaked, clinging to me uncomfortably cold. At this moment, not only me but several others also began to scream in horror.
There was no time to think too much; I used all my strength to swim towards the submarine's Hatch. Water had already reached my chest; if I didn’t hurry, it would soon flood into the protective Surface dome. At that point, with blurred vision, escaping safely would become even more difficult!
However, misfortune often comes in waves!
Just when our group had finally managed to reach the Hatch, a sudden and powerful suction force came from below, almost pulling us in an instant!
I tightly held onto the outer parts of the submarine, and the others did the same.
"I'll go open the door; you get inside first!" Xianxian said before reaching down.
I was about to say "no," but suddenly, icy water surged into my mask, and I instinctively closed my eyes, unable to breathe at that moment!
What to do? What to do?
Calm down! Calm down!
Forcing myself to open my eyes, water rushed in instantly, cold and painful! I could hardly suppress the fear of going blind!
The immense suction was relentless, pulling me downward. Breathing became difficult, and my eyes stung from the water. Was this the end? Shaking off those thoughts, I slightly adjusted to the current situation and looked down, seeing Xianxian struggling to move the gate. Thankfully, his diving suit hadn’t been torn!
Looking at the others, Pei Zi’s diving suit had a hole in the back, and bubbles were rising from it, indicating that water was flooding in! Wang Yi and Wuma You were surrounded by white bones, almost completely engulfed!
I couldn't speak; I could only stare at them anxiously.
The feeling of suffocation grew stronger. I knew that if I continued waiting like this, I would soon run out of breath. So I shifted slightly, preparing to help Xianxian move the gate.
But at that moment, I suddenly realized Xianxian was gone!
Panicking, I looked around—nothing! The suction intensified suddenly; my hands slipped uncontrollably, and I fell back into the water. The overwhelming pull surged towards me, threatening to tear me apart. The only sensation was the bone-chilling cold that left me shivering without strength.
The suction from below felt like a whirlpool; I couldn’t control my body as it spun downward—sometimes head up, sometimes head down. Finally, after all this turmoil, my last breath was exhausted!
Before I could take a sip of cool water, everything spun again as water filled my nose and mouth. I could feel it—I was on the brink!
In the next moment, I felt the mask on my face shift slightly, and then I sensed a loosening around my neck; the mask must have fallen off. However, at this point, it didn't matter much whether I had the mask or not. If it weren't for this overwhelming willpower, I might have already fainted.
Despite the despair ahead, we still have to believe that hope and miracles exist, don't we?
Those without hope are pitiful, and I don't want to become that pitiful person. So, no matter what happens around me, even in the face of death, I still choose to believe in miracles, even though I have no strength left in my body.
Suddenly, something was forced into my mouth. I clenched my teeth tightly against it, but the force was too strong; it burst into my mouth, and I was compelled to drink a mouthful of cold water. After that, I suddenly felt a breath of oxygen, as if a seriously ill person had found a remedy. I held onto that thing and inhaled deeply.
Then, I opened my eyes.
Lime...
Lime??
Lime!!
Was it confusion? Surprise? Joy?
In that instant, all I felt was the urge to cry. I didn't know why, but when I saw Lime's calm eyes, tears welled up! The tension that had been gripping me slowly eased at that moment; Lime truly had a reassuring aura!
Perhaps it was his consistently calm and fearless attitude, perhaps it was the powerful energy emanating from him, or perhaps it was his demeanor of someone wise beyond measure. In any case, when I saw him at that moment, I felt that I wouldn't die; there was still hope!
