"Who said you don't need to know?" The man scoffed. "I just didn't expect you to escape!"
Beneath the mask, his pitch-black eyes were filled with sarcasm and mockery. I shrugged and smiled nonchalantly. "I'm not an idiot; why would I let you butcher me?"
"That woman—don't you care about her life or death?" the man asked again.
I let out a self-deprecating laugh, suppressing the anger and sadness within me, and replied lightly, "Of course I care, but it's a pity..."
"A pity about what?" The man's tone began to fill with danger as he asked coldly.
"A pity that I absolutely detest betrayal!" After saying this, I casually threw a smoke bomb, and instantly, thick white mist enveloped the surroundings, obscuring all vision.
Taking this opportunity, I dashed away without caring about the direction, as long as I was sure not to run back to my lair. At the same moment, I heard the man's furious roar: "This is your doing! Idiots, you couldn't even search him properly!"
The ones being scolded looked innocent and confused. "But we clearly searched everything; how could there still be weapons?"
The smoke came quickly and dissipated just as fast, but those few seconds were enough! I ran wildly; in the darkness, I could see further. The mist was the same. It was impossible not to be curious or doubtful about my own body's abnormalities, but I believed that one day all the mysteries would be unraveled.
Ever since I entered this line of work, I've always felt something calling me from beyond. At first, it wasn't much, but ever since I acquired The Dead and opened the Ghost Ring, that feeling sometimes became so intense that I almost wanted to run off immediately. But where? I didn't know...
I was nothing but a huge joke! Unwittingly caught up in all of this, unable to extricate myself yet unwilling to withdraw. It's tragic that I didn't even know the secrets within me; I knew nothing at all. The path ahead was blank, yet I could only move forward!
I didn't know how long I had been running. While running, I checked my phone—it was already past seven o'clock, and there was only one bar of signal!
"Enough!" I sneered and immediately dialed Xianxian's number. As soon as the call connected, I shouted, "Where are you now?"
"Fengfeng?" There was a moment of hesitation on the other end before he replied, "I've just arrived at Bear Slope."
Bang... Suddenly, the dirt beneath my feet was kicked up. I turned around to see an off-road vehicle and three black sedans approaching. Not only that, but there were also several people on top of the cars aiming guns at me!
"Hey, gunshots?!" Xianxian exclaimed in shock. Without time to explain much, I quickly yelled into the phone, "Get back, see you later!" After hanging up, I started running towards the area with more trees!
These bastards are really tough to deal with! Although I thought I was running fast, could I outrun four wheels?! Cursing under my breath, I thought to myself that when I get back this time, I'll leave a few cars in The Dead! Yes, what a great idea! Why hadn't I thought of it before?
With a strong sense of urgency, I dodged bullets while placing a few small landmines on the ground. These were made by Wang Yi himself; their effectiveness was definitely not inferior to those used by the military! Glancing back with a sense of schadenfreude, if all goes well, someone among them would surely be hit.
What? You ask why I didn't just throw the landmines over?
Because those four wheels were still some distance away from me. I didn't want to stop and wait for them to come closer before throwing. Besides, the combination of landmines and Big Bang's power is no joke; it wouldn't be good if I accidentally hurt myself here. So it’s better to make a quick escape! As long as there's life left, there's hope; anything is not something one person can accomplish alone. Two fists can't fight four hands; if I'm not careful and get caught up with them, I could end up shot full of holes!
A few minutes later...
As expected, there was a loud bang. I turned around sharply and saw a huge explosion erupting behind me, sending sparks shooting into the sky. Even though I was still some distance from the epicenter of the blast, I could feel a wave of heat rushing towards me.
I took a deep look at the flames and sighed as I turned to leave. In this line of work, it's all about survival of the fittest; there's no room for kindness!
After running for nearly an hour, I finally reached the roadside. After briefly tending to my wounds, I took a taxi to the bus station. Those people wouldn't give up so easily, so it was better to blend into a crowded area! If they didn't want to attract attention from the authorities, they shouldn't dare to act recklessly!
Just as I lay down, barely settling in, I noticed two small sedans coming up from behind. Seeing their reckless approach as if they were eager to crash into me sent alarm bells ringing in my mind—I felt something was off! Their reaction speed is really fast; I didn't expect them to catch up so quickly!
"Driver, take me to the nearest station, please hurry!" I suddenly felt a sense of desperate urgency.
"I'm already going as fast as I can!" the driver replied dismissively.
I felt helpless, worried that they would catch up to us at any moment, and also concerned that they might just shoot without hesitation. In this cramped car, not only was there no way to evade them, but a car accident would also be a huge problem!
Fortunately, although these people were criminals, they still didn't dare to openly shoot on the road. However, with two cars following closely behind us, I could still feel the pressure; it was clear they were waiting for me to get out so they could launch a coordinated attack!
My phone in my pocket began to vibrate. I took it out and saw it was Xianxian calling, so I answered.
"How's it going over there? Still alive?" Xianxian's voice came through.
"Sorry to disappoint you, I'm still very much alive!" I replied.
"That's good to hear. Hehe~" Xianxian laughed shamelessly before asking, "Do you want me to send some people to help you?"
I chuckled lightly and teased, "Sure, but do you even know my exact location? How would you come help me?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end before I heard Xianxian's annoyingly smug voice, "You might as well fend for yourself. This Lord is starving; I'm going to grab a bite first and then we can talk. Haha~"
"Go die!" I cursed just as the call ended, leaving me with the echo of someone's laughter in my ears.
The sky had already darkened, and the road was no longer empty; pedestrians and vehicles were gradually increasing. As I saw the station getting closer and closer, I handed the driver a hundred-dollar bill and said, "No need for change, stop the car now!"
The driver looked at me suspiciously but complied and stopped the car. I opened the door and dashed out. At the same time, two black sedans came to a halt as well; their doors swung open simultaneously, and several strong men rushed out from inside.
I let out a cold laugh and rushed into the station, heading straight for the subway without a second thought. Seeing several long lines over there, I couldn't help but frown; waiting in line wouldn't work. It seemed I had to think of another way!
"Excuse me, beautiful, could you help me?" I boldly approached the front of the ticket machine, ignoring the strange looks from others, and flashed a bright smile at a woman who was inserting coins.
The woman turned around in confusion, her initial displeasure suddenly disappearing as she nodded blankly and shyly smiled, "What do you need?"
"I have an urgent matter, so..." Given the pressing situation and the fact that several people were chasing me, I had no choice but to use my charm!
"Uh-huh, uh-huh!" Luckily, I encountered a reasonable girl; my first attempt at using charm actually succeeded!
After tapping a couple of times, I took the ticket and smiled at her, "Thank you so much! I'll treat you to dinner sometime!" Seeing that the other group had already noticed me and was rushing over, I thanked the girl and ran into the station!
Despite attracting many curious glances from passersby, I quickly validated my ticket and dashed inside.
"Damn it!!" Watching the subway speed away, I couldn't help but curse under my breath. I rushed here in such a hurry but still missed it by a step!
"Hey, look who I've run into!" A clear male voice with a magnetic tone came from beside me. It sounded somewhat familiar yet strange.
Turning suspiciously to look, I saw a man with refreshing jet-black short hair, dressed in simple black and white athletic gear that accentuated his tall and slender figure. What stood out most was the large black sniper goggles on his face, almost covering half of it! Below his prominent nose, his lips curled into an enigmatic smile that was hard to decipher!
"Divine Hand!" I exclaimed in surprise; I never expected to see this formidable rival in such a place!
"Oh? Have you gotten yourself into trouble again?" The smirk on his lips deepened as he asked teasingly.
"You..." I pointed at him in disbelief. Although we hadn't interacted for long, Divine Hand's consistent aloofness and arrogance were deeply ingrained in my memory. But now, something felt off.
Suddenly, a thought crossed my mind: didn't Xianxian once mention that Divine Hand might have Dissociative Identity Disorder? Could he be like me? No, I believe in Dissociative Identity Disorder, but if he were like me, I really wouldn't buy it!
"How did you get here?" I asked calmly, suppressing the strange feeling in my heart.
Divine Hand suddenly laughed, his large black goggles facing me as he cheekily asked, "Why can't I be here?"
I twitched my lips; this conversation seemed too unproductive. So I smiled and said, "You can be here, but I have something to do, so I'll be on my way!" With that, I walked straight ahead.
"Stop!" Just a few steps in, two people suddenly surged from all directions, surrounding me. Cursing under my breath, I had no choice but to halt and watch them warily. If it came down to it, I wouldn't mind using force!
"Divine Hand?" A rugged-looking man pointed at Divine Hand and asked cautiously after a moment of surprise, "What are you doing here?"
Divine Hand's mouth twitched suspiciously as he replied coldly, "Why can't I be here?!" Repeating it twice made even me feel the chill in his words.
It seemed they knew each other! I glanced at Divine Hand thoughtfully; his character was the hardest for me to gauge. So where is that car? Why isn't it dead yet?
Looking at the group, although they seemed somewhat wary of Divine Hand, they still coldly warned, "Let's not interfere with each other's business. I advise you not to meddle in our affairs! Otherwise..."
"Otherwise?" Divine Hand crossed his arms and stared at the speaker with a half-smile, his tone already laced with coldness.
