The night was hazy and silent! In this desolate place, with steep cliffs and the abandoned Mountain Temple, it was quite normal for ghostly events to occur, wasn't it?
"Let's get started!" I secretly signaled to Little Black.
In the next moment, a sobbing sound echoed from inside the house. It seemed far away yet close at hand, a mournful wail that sent chills down our spines.
Ah, ah, ah...
Suddenly, several high-pitched screams from women erupted inside the house. "There's a ghost!" Xiao Xiao shouted, waking almost everyone up. They all stood up, alertly watching their surroundings.
Flashlights were turned on one by one, but despite this, the sobbing continued to drift through the air, chilling our hearts and causing panic.
"There's a ghost! Oh no, Tongqi, let's hurry and leave!" Xiao Xiao was fearless in most situations but terrified of ghosts. Most women shared this fear. Besides, given that we were in the Rugged Mountains and Wild Ridges and the temple had been abandoned for so many years, it was normal for something strange to happen.
"How could there be a female ghost in the temple?" Qin Ge asked, still somewhat calm and puzzled.
"Maybe it's a worshipper who accidentally... you know?" Sun Lan whispered.

Little Black was putting on quite a show, crying in a way that was truly unsettling. If I didn't know who was behind it, I might have thought we were actually seeing ghosts!
The sound above suddenly grew louder, and everyone looked up in unison. At that moment, I reached for the Flesh Buddha and focused my thoughts on it.
"Feng, we should leave quickly..." Rophie tightly grasped my arm. Just as she turned to look at me, she screamed: "The Flesh Buddha is gone!"
"What?" I looked over in surprise, exclaiming, "It was just here a moment ago..."
"Damn it, it's really haunted. Forget it, let's go and not waste our energy here," Xianxian waved his hand and called us to leave.
I nodded, pulling Rophie along and calling out to the few frightened individuals. Ignoring the strange and confused expressions of Qin Ge and his group, I pushed open the door and walked out.
Although the dirt road wasn't completely dry and still stuck to our feet a bit, we couldn't worry too much about that. The Flesh Buddha was already in hand, and we couldn't expose The Dead; we had to return on empty stomachs.
However, what I didn't expect was that this Heart Immortal Path was indeed a tomb. Perhaps it was the old monk's tomb, or maybe it was built for someone else, with the old monk as the gravekeeper?
Regardless, this open-air tomb was quite special, located on Ghost Valley; it was unique and distinct.
By the time we returned to Dahuang Village two days later, carrying some food, Lime, Qin Ge, and I hurried back to the back mountain without resting for a moment. Since the others were exhausted, Lime and I returned early to fetch water and food while Xianxian stayed behind to keep things under control; I felt reassured with him there.
As evening approached and we regrouped with everyone, those who had been exhausted quickly devoured the food and water. After wolfing down their meals, they regained their energy and rested for the night. The next day at noon, we finally made our way back to Dahuang Village together.
When it came time to part ways:
"Go back and tell the boss I'm not coming back," Xianxian said to Qin Ge.
"Are you sure?" Qin Ge looked coldly at Xianxian, his expression grim.
Xianxian sneered, "What? Is following me all this way not enough? How much longer do you want to keep an eye on me? I'm making it clear today; I've made my decision. From now on, bridges are bridges and roads are roads. I've done plenty for him over these years; I've repaid my share of kindness!"
"Fine!" Qin Ge glanced at us with disdain, waved his hand, and said, "Let's go." With that, he led his group away.
"Is it really okay to fall out so quickly?" I said with concern as I watched their retreating figures.
Xianxian sighed helplessly with a bitter smile. "I originally planned to clarify things after some time, but having someone follow me around all the time makes it hard to act freely."
Not long after, our group left Dahuang Village and Hengshan.
"We're going to school now, let's play again next time!" Xiao Xiao waved goodbye to us.
Sun Lan patted my shoulder and smiled, "See you next time," before leaving as well.
Since I promised Rophie that I would visit her home, that evening we stayed near the Grand Hotel.
The night was dimly lit, with twinkling lights. It felt like we were drifting further away from city life, and walking on the street made me feel somewhat out of place.
"What are you doing following us?" I glanced sideways at Xianxian, who was dressed flamboyantly.
Xianxian had just permed her hair, looking quite dashing. If she were holding a fan in her hand, she would definitely resemble a dandy. With her hands in her pockets, Xianxian grinned and said, "Aren't we here to catch ghosts? I'm just here to join the fun—oh no, I mean to lend a hand!"
I rolled my eyes helplessly, thinking that even if there were ghosts, could she really see them? She was just here for the excitement!
Rophie chuckled softly. Seeing that Xianxian wasn't taking it seriously eased my mind. I said earnestly, "Kids, we're just here to assess the situation tonight. It's not about catching ghosts; we're not ghost masters!"
Xianxian shot me a glance that seemed to say, "You keep pretending! What's the difference between you and a ghost master?"
I ignored her and continued talking to Rophie to help ease her tension.
"It's on the fifth floor," Rophie said as she stood at the bottom of the building, looking up.
"Let's go." I glanced around; the lights on the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors were off, indicating that no one was home.
Time passed slowly as we climbed the stairs. Soon we reached the fifth floor, the rumored haunted area. I wasn't sure if it was because it was autumn or because no one lived here, but it felt colder. A chilling aura surrounded us as I looked at the deep red security door; indeed, the peephole was broken.
After thinking for a moment, I decided to peek through the hole with one eye. At first glance, it was pitch black inside. As I blinked and tried to adjust to the darkness, I suddenly felt something bump into me—a wave of coldness!
That feeling, that touch... it was truly eerie!
I was surprised inside, but I didn't show it on my face. Suddenly, I felt a cold breeze pass by me. When I turned to look, I saw a red shadow flash into Xianxian. It was clearly mismatched with his height, making it look quite awkward and out of place.
Suppressing a laugh, I casually glanced at Xianxian without saying a word. I pondered in my heart; it seemed that this woman had just tried to possess me? But when she couldn't, she turned to Xianxian instead? Seeing Xianxian curiously pushing me aside to look inside, he didn't seem like someone being controlled. Why did the female ghost want to possess us, and... did she already know we were coming back?
I glanced at Rophie, who looked slightly pale and nervously grabbed my arm, asking, "Did you see anything just now?"
I shook my head, equally puzzled. "It was pitch black; I couldn't see anything. I think that female ghost might have already moved on since you haven't been back for a long time."
"Yeah, maybe," Rophie nodded and smiled apologetically. "It's all my fault for not coming back sooner; I'm sorry for the trouble."
I shook my head. "What are you talking about? It's no trouble at all; you're being too polite."
"Alright then, since there are no ghosts, let's hurry back and eat!" Xianxian suggested after losing interest in a moment.
I nodded and asked Rophie, "What are your plans for the future?"
"I've made plans with Sun Lan to go to her house tonight. After that, they will help me tidy up my room," Rophie replied with a light smile.
"Sounds good; I'll walk you there."
