"By the way, why do I feel like this place looks familiar?" Wang Yi scratched the back of his head, puzzled.
Snow Princess chuckled lightly, her smile enchanting. "Isn't it all like this in the mountains? Don't be so suspicious."
"Is that so..." Wang Yi seemed a bit confused.
After hearing Wang Yi's words, I took a serious look at the surrounding geography. Although the terrain in the mountains is generally similar, there are still differences. We had trekked through mountains and rivers, and everyone was exhausted, hardly paying attention to the landscape around us. Yet, seemingly oblivious Wang Yi was the first to voice his doubts, which made me think that one shouldn't judge a book by its cover.
"There is indeed a hint of familiarity..." After observing for a while, I concluded.
"I told you!" Wang Yi immediately became proud, saying with excitement, "I have a good intuition!"
"You’re going to puff your chest up to the sky!" Xianxian shot him a glance before asking Cui Ming, who was walking ahead, "Cui Ming, where is the Mountain Temple located?"
Cui Ming didn't even turn his head and replied, "Ghost Valley."
"What!?" Not only was I surprised, but Xianxian and the others were also taken aback, especially Wang Yi, who rushed forward and grabbed Cui Ming's shoulder, turning him around with a fierce expression and asking, "Where did you say it is?!"
"Uh, Ghost Valley... What's wrong?" Cui Ming blinked innocently, looking confused.
I sighed and facepalmed; we had taken quite a detour!
Wang Yi didn't respond to him and went off to pound on a tree in frustration, his fists making it shake violently.
"Hey, what's going on with you guys?" Tongqi asked curiously.
"Didn't I tell you? The last time we came back from Ghost Valley!" Xianxian said with an expression of mixed laughter and tears.
Last time we only took one day to return, but this time it had already been four or five days! And we still hadn't arrived! This meant we might have taken a huge detour. As I thought about it, I couldn't help but laugh; everyone around me was so amusing!
"You didn't get lost again, did you?" Sun Lan looked at Cui Ming with an expression that said 'I knew it.'
Cui Ming's cheeks turned red as he hesitated for a long time before saying, "I've only been there once; I only know the general location."
"It's okay; we haven't lost anything these past few days. We came here just to enjoy the scenery," I said.
Xianxian agreed, "Well, since we know that the Mountain Temple is in Ghost Valley, let's hurry up. We might even get there tonight." Everyone nodded in agreement and continued on their way. Over the past few days, everyone had noticeably quickened their pace; indeed, climbing had its benefits.
Our goal this time was right above Ghost Valley... the temple was on the mountain, and coincidentally, the base of the mountain was Ghost Valley. Cui Ming later said that this Mountain Temple had been built to ward off evil since its inception.
I nodded, and at that moment, Lime's gaze seemed to flicker, but he didn't say anything. I didn't think much of it and continued our journey through the afternoon. By nightfall, we finally reached the border of Ghost Valley.
Although the moonlight was bright, it was still dark, so we couldn't see even a small temple, let alone a palace or a large Buddha statue. The mountain was high, the trees were dense, and there were no caves around, which meant another night spent sleeping outdoors.
"I can't believe it! How is there only this little food left? It's not even enough for me tonight!" Wang Yi said with a frustrated expression as he sat by the campfire.
"Should we go back?" Rophie suggested, her brows furrowed with worry. "If there's no one in the temple and we run out of food, what will we do in this desolate mountain?"
"What should we do? I really want to see the ancient temple, but are we really going to starve here?" Xiao Xiao said with a worried expression as she rested her chin on her hand.
Seeing everyone's troubled faces, I felt uncertain too. The weather was getting cooler, and there had been few animals around. If we didn't go back or find some food soon, we might really starve. After all, they were ordinary people; while our group of practitioners could run back to Village in a day, they would need at least two days to return without food or water.
"How about this..." I looked up at Xianxian and suggested, "Some of us can go look for food while leaving others here to protect everyone."
"Alright," Xianxian nodded. "We have no choice; we can't just sit here and watch ourselves starve."
"Feng, I'm going with you!" Rophie suddenly stood up and looked into my eyes with determination.
I was about to refuse when she added, "Since I can't sleep anyway, I might as well go find food. If you refuse me, I'll go alone."
Missy, can we not make a fuss? I really couldn't understand why Rophie, who was usually gentle and obedient, was being so headstrong this time. However, since she had put it that way, how could I refuse? So I reluctantly nodded in agreement and said, "Then you can come with us."
"We'll split into four groups; you two will be one team," Xianxian pointed at me and Rophie before indicating Lime and Fu Song. "You two will be another team. Fu Song, remember to bring him back safely."
"Brother Qing is much stronger than I am!" Fu Song didn't catch Xianxian's implication but still nodded.
Xianxian didn't bother explaining; after all, she knew her brother's shortcomings well enough. She simply said to Fu Song, "Just stick closely to him."
Fu Song nodded in agreement.
Finally, Xianxian looked at one person and said, "Let's team up together."
The person paused for a moment before looking at Xianxian and nodding in response with a single word: "Okay!"
The person referred to as Xianxian was indeed the one he had brought along. Although their presence had been quite weak these past few days, they never took the initiative to engage with others and always exuded an aura that discouraged interaction. Naturally, we had no intention of approaching them either, so we treated each other as if we were invisible. This time, when Xianxian suddenly mentioned him, not only was that person surprised, but I was also a bit taken aback.
“Master Xian, what about us?” Wang Yi said, a flicker of displeasure in his eyes, clearly indicating that he thought it was safer to bring any of us rather than him.
“Xianxian, how about I go with you?” Zhao Yang stepped forward and suggested.
“Enough,” Xianxian waved his hand. “It’s not like we’re going into battle. Why is everyone worrying so much? Qin Ge is also our brother; what’s wrong with me going with him?” After saying that, he added, “Since you all want to go, the last group will be Wang Yi and Zhao Yang. Remember, you must return within three hours regardless of whether you find anything or not; we need to set off tomorrow. The rest of you should take care of yourselves. Although Mountain Ghost has been eliminated, who knows what might appear in these Rugged Mountains and Wild Ridges.”
Everyone nodded in agreement.
As we were about to leave, I glanced at Xianxian. From the moment he chose that person named Qin Ge, I had guessed a little about his intentions. But was this risk too great?
Don’t worry!
Xianxian gave me a reassuring look that said not to be concerned before he and Qin Ge disappeared into the darkness.
“Little Phoenix, Faye, be careful!” Sun Lan approached us with a worried expression.
“Don’t worry, we’ll be fine,” I reassured her.
Sun Lan nodded, and then I took Rophie and left as well.
