"Are you sure you want to bring those people along?" Xianxian asked, walking beside me and tilting his head.
I shrugged helplessly, signaling with my eyes that there was nothing I could do. They insisted on coming, and besides, you didn't stop them either!
We exchanged glances and sighed; it couldn't be helped!
Apart from me, Xianxian, and Feng Zi, a group of followers trailed behind us.
Time moved forward a bit, just as we decided to confront the Mountain Ghost:
"That despicable Mountain Ghost, don't worry, Feng Zi, I'll help you!" Tongqi declared confidently, patting his chest.
I twitched my lips; before I could object, Xiao Xiao and the others chimed in. They even dragged Rophie into it. No matter how we persuaded them, they wouldn't listen. I realized they just loved to join in wherever there was excitement!
As if that wasn't chaotic enough, Special Police Ma Jielian looked at the sword in my hand for a moment and said with a smile, "It's our duty as police to eliminate threats. Although I don't have a sword, I can still provide cover with my gun!"
Come on, don't just speak for yourself without giving us time to refuse!
"Xian Xiao..." Dr. Zhang suddenly stepped forward. I opened my mouth just as Xianxian walked over a few steps and awkwardly said, "Uncle Zhang, you don't want to join in the fun too, do you?"
"What are you thinking?" Dr. Zhang shot Xianxian a glare and stepped in front of us. "This old body of mine can't handle such trouble."
"Then what about you?" Xianxian started to ask, but Dr. Zhang interrupted him with a worried expression. "I think that Mountain Ghost is quite formidable. You all need to be especially careful; don't let it get too close!"
Xianxian smiled broadly and reassured him, "Don't worry; we'll be careful."
"I'll go too!" At that moment, another person stepped out from the crowd. I turned to look and realized it was Cui Ming. Cui Ming's father had mostly recovered and could get out of bed. Before I could refuse, his father came out, looking anxious and said, "Xiao Ming, with your strength, going there is just asking for death!"
Whether it was anger or embarrassment, Cui Ming's face turned bright red. "I am also a member of the Village. It is our duty to eliminate the Mountain Ghost that has harmed us. We have troubled others enough; how can we not contribute at all?"
"It's fine." I forced a smile. In truth, Cui Ming joining us would not only be ineffective but could also lead to negative consequences. Of course, I wouldn't say that out loud, so I advised, "It's not about having more people making us stronger. If we're not careful and let that Mountain Ghost absorb blood, it will only increase its power. So it's better for just a few of us to go rescue. Besides, there are many others in the Village, right? As a member of the Village, you should take care of everyone."
"Right, leave capturing the Mountain Ghost to us! You all have taken care of us a lot these days," Special Police Ma Jielian interjected firmly.
...
Thus, our group of three turned into a team of ten. Among them was a tall man with dark skin and cold eyes that shone with intelligence; he was a member of the Fairy Team whose name I did not know yet. He didn't seem to be one for socializing, while the others appeared to follow his lead.
"Tongqi, I know you all are just here for the excitement, but since you're here, you must listen to orders when the time comes. Otherwise, don't blame me if something goes wrong!" I reminded them as we walked.
Tongqi smiled and teased, "I didn't realize it; just a few days have passed and your tone is starting to sound like a big Boss!"
"Really?" I chuckled; I guess I had been too naive before.
Xiao Xiao chimed in, "Yes, definitely! It feels like you've become a different person."
"Hey, Fu Song! Look over there; that's Fu Song, right?" Just as Xiao Xiao finished speaking, she called out again while pulling Tongqi aside to look.
I glanced in the direction she pointed and indeed saw Fu Song rushing over.
"Fu Song, where have you been these past few days?" Tongqi asked.
"With Brother Feng," Fu Song said and followed behind me.
Everyone was astonished, especially Li Hui, who pointed at me in disbelief and asked, "Are you sure you didn't call the wrong person?"
"No," Fu Song replied succinctly and fell silent.
"What is going on?" Rophie tugged at my sleeve, asking curiously.
I glanced back and saw that the others were looking at me with a mix of curiosity and disbelief. I could only smile slightly and explain, "We had a fight, and I won."
"Just like that?" Li Hui still seemed unwilling to believe it, but a look of understanding began to appear in his eyes.
"Fu Song, say something! Did Feng Zi force you?" Sun Lan rushed to Fu Song's side, staring at my back as she asked.
I couldn't help but laugh. Do I really seem like the type to force someone? Although initially, to some extent, I did push him into it, now it was mutual consent. Even if he were truly forced, I could guarantee that any man would never admit it; it's not just a matter of principle but also a crucial issue of pride for a man!
Sure enough, Fu Song looked at Sun Lan in confusion and asked, "Why would he force me? He is stronger than me, so naturally, I call him big brother."
Sun Lan was momentarily speechless, pouting in frustration as if regretting something—though I had no idea what that was. "Alright, you win."
Over by Xianxian, he was talking with Major Ma. I only caught bits of their conversation, which revolved around the matter of the Mountain Ghost. I was glad someone was diverting Major Ma's attention; after all, fighting was fine for me now, but socializing was still something I wasn't very skilled at—I wasn't the type to easily warm up to others.
With Fu Song's arrival, the atmosphere on our side became somewhat strange.
Little Black quietly nestled in my pocket, occasionally letting out a soft whine. Thankfully, it was quiet; otherwise, I'd have no way to explain if it startled someone. The deeper we went, the more I felt the temperature around us dropping continuously. A chilling wind blew through as the sun seemed to vanish suddenly, as if we had jumped straight from autumn into winter.
The mist from my breath dissipated in front of me, and the sound of heavy breathing echoed around. The bare tree trunks shed their leaves, leaving only a few behind, as the heavy rain had washed away much of the foliage. The air was damp, and I felt a strong sense of oppression and resentment in this place!
It was getting closer!
Without needing Little Black's reminder, I knew that the Mountain Ghost must be hiding somewhere nearby.
Suddenly, a gust of wind whipped up a cloud of sand and stones, forcing me to squint. Almost simultaneously, three screams rang out in succession. Startled, I quickly turned around. Just at that moment, a shadow zipped past me! Meanwhile, Tongqi and the others were blown off balance, and I clearly saw that three girls were missing!
Turning back again, I saw Sun Lan, Rophie, and Xiao Xiao suspended in mid-air, flailing desperately as they struggled.
“Xiao Lan!” Li Hui shouted from behind, and I could also hear Major Ma organizing a few people to move forward.
There was no time to think too much; two figures beside me dashed forward almost simultaneously. Without needing to look, I knew it was Xianxian and Lime!
The three girls were separated by some distance, and Sun Lan happened to be right in front of me. Without hesitation, I ran straight toward her; as for Xiao Xiao and Rophie, Xianxian and Lime would be able to save them.
I had no intention of hiding my abilities; after all, being skilled was not something unusual. With my skills at hand, it would make things easier in the future. As I saw Sun Lan about to crash into the tree ahead, I lunged forward with all my might and managed to grab her foot just in time. Then I pulled her back forcefully; Sun Lan staggered a few steps backward, and I aligned myself beside her.
“Feng Zi!” Sun Lan cried out, holding her head with a face full of fear and surprise.
“Are you okay?” I asked as I wrapped an arm around her waist. With one foot pushing off the tree beside us, we made a sharp turn in mid-air. Drawing my sword, I plunged it fiercely into the ground; instantly, the blade sank three inches deep. No matter how strong the pulling force was, I held tightly onto the hilt. After a moment, the suction gradually weakened, but I knew that the next wave of force would only be stronger!
