"Fairy, didn't you just tell me that Little Phoenix can not only see ghosts but also control them?" Snow Princess couldn't help but tease.
Sure enough, the other three gasped in disbelief, taking a while to recover before praising me profusely. I chuckled and said, "You're too kind; you Xianxian are quite impressive as well." If I didn't compliment him a bit, I felt like my back would be burned through by that naked gaze; even with my back turned to them, I could strongly sense it!
"Hehehe, keep it low-key; just knowing it in your hearts is enough," Xianxian laughed shamelessly.
"By the way, Brother Feng, Master Xian told us before that you are going to establish a faction?" Wang Yi asked, staring at me intently.
I nodded. No wonder Wang Yi had been staring at me like he was on adrenaline when he first saw me; it turned out Xianxian only mentioned part of it and hadn't fully informed them.
"I've already thought about it; the organization will be called 'The League of Shadows', and our main force will consist of ghosts from the Underworld. As for other members, we need quality over quantity for now; you all can keep an eye out. Regarding the base, I'll find one later; there's no need to worry about safety. Unless an atomic bomb comes to blow us up, no one can enter without our consent," I said with a smile, curling my lips.
"Is it the formation that Master Xian mentioned?" Wang Yi asked excitedly.
"Yes, the Guardian Alliance Formation!" I laughed, narrowing my eyes slightly. "No one can stop us!"
As for the matter of The Dead, I believe that Xianxian hasn't told anyone, not even our closest allies; we absolutely won't reveal a single hint.
It is wealth!
It is also disaster!
I believe that as soon as the outside world learns even a little about The Dead, or suspects anything regarding it, our future days will be filled with turmoil and strife. No matter what we do or where we go, there will be endless disturbances and conflicts!
Don't say that our strength is not strong now; even if we become powerful, the enemy will have countless ways to kill us. Even if we don't die, we will still suffer greatly, never finding peace!
Xianxian and I both understand the consequences, so we would never speak of it. As for Lime, unless someone is killed, he will eliminate anyone who knows, heh heh heh, it seems these two brothers are quite reliable.
Finally, regarding the main force of The League of Shadows, the ghosts! The world of ghosts is always simpler than that of humans. Ghosts can not only keep my secrets but also lend us a helping hand. Humans, on the surface one way and behind the scenes another, are inscrutable and unpredictable. If someone resorts to underhanded tactics behind your back, you might even end up being grateful for it. Therefore, I trust ghosts more than humans! This is also the main reason I am willing to accept Ghost Ring.
Moonless Night with Strong Wind, we venture deeper and deeper; the trees in the forest become denser, making it hard to see the path beneath our feet. The waist-high weeds seem to indicate that this place is rarely visited, as if no one has been here before.
“I heard from Village Chief that there seems to be a temple in this mountain. I wonder if we might happen upon it this time,” Snow Princess murmured behind me.
“What do you want to go to the temple for? To burn incense and pray or to become a nun?” Xianxian teased.
“Bah! You go become a monk; I don’t want to be a nun!” Snow Princess retorted stubbornly.
Everyone laughed, “Snow Princess, if Master Xian really became a monk, wouldn’t you cry your eyes out!”
“Shh—”
I stopped in my tracks and signaled everyone to be quiet. The moonlight was hazy, the shadows of the trees danced, and the sounds of insects were faint and indistinct. Behind me were shallow and uneven breaths; a chilling wind swirled around us, and everything was eerily silent. I couldn't help but frown; just now I seemed to have heard something—why was it gone in such a short time?
“Brother Feng, did you notice something?” Wang Yi asked quietly.
I shook my head and replied softly, “I thought I heard something just now; everyone be careful.” After saying that, I continued walking forward.
A soft voice came from behind, "Master Xian, did you hear any sound?"
Xianxian lightly responded, "It was fleeting. Listen carefully and report any movement immediately."
The atmosphere suddenly became tense; the previous laughter seemed to have happened a long time ago. The surroundings were eerily quiet, making it feel even more sinister!
After a long while...
"Are we lost?"
"That's possible..."
"Why do I feel like I've walked this way before?"
"You're imagining things. We've been walking straight; there's no way we could have come back."
"Exactly, everything in the mountains looks the same. Don't be so jumpy."
After those words, the surroundings fell into a prolonged silence once again.
As dawn broke, the temperature in the forest suddenly dropped. Mist gradually spread, slowly thickening and making the already unclear path even more obscure. Holding hands, we stumbled forward until we could barely see anything!
"Stop!" I halted, sensing five breaths behind me, not one less.
It's definitely true that we're lost!
Not only are we lost, but we're also trapped in this thick fog!
There aren't that many coincidences in the world, so I suspect something is at play here. As soon as I voiced my thoughts, everyone else nodded in agreement.
At this moment, I couldn't see my hand in front of my face; it was impossible to move forward. I had no idea what lay ahead or behind me—everything was just a white blur. Since I can remember, I've never seen fog this dense; it feels illogical. Can such thick fog really form in the deep woods?
"This is so damn strange!" Xianxian exclaimed, clearly annoyed. "Isn't it a bit too coincidental for this fog to come out of nowhere? It's like it's deliberately trapping us!"
I was about to say that she just noticed it when suddenly I felt the air tighten, as if something had rushed past me. Startled, I looked ahead and before I could warn anyone, I saw a massive claw reaching for me. Don't ask how I saw it; I just did.
Surrounded by branches and foliage, there was no way to dodge it, and I was caught. My body felt light as I was swiftly lifted into the air. The wind sliced against my face like a knife, and all I heard was Xianxian's startled cry, gone in an instant! My arms were tightly gripped, and my breath became shallow, feeling as if I were about to suffocate.
The invisible white claw seemed weak but was actually hard and powerful. I couldn't break free; all I could do was force myself to calm down and think rationally to make a choice.
Now that it's confirmed this creature is responsible for the fog, there are weapons in The Dead that I could use to strike at this giant hand at any moment. But what happens after that? In this thick fog, it's impossible to tell east from west, let alone that I've already separated from the others and have no idea if they are facing the same situation.
Right now, all I'm waiting for is an opportunity.
I want to see where this thing intends to take me.
