Under the statue, the most eye-catching feature was a large pool filled with thick, bright red blood. The air was heavy with a strong blood stench, making me wonder if this was the Blood Pool.
Surrounding the Blood Pool were five strange torch stands, each burning with blue flames. In front of the Blood Pool stood a massive stone platform, beneath which were numerous bizarrely twisted small passages, many of which had dark red stains from congealed blood. A wave of nauseating blood stench filled my nostrils as I exchanged a glance with Xianxian, both of us recognizing the surprise and understanding in each other's eyes. We finally realized where the villagers' blood had gone—right here!
As my thoughts raced, I felt as if the statue's eyes moved slightly. After observing for a moment, it seemed like an illusion. Unable to endure the heavy blood stench any longer, I was about to leave when a deep rumbling sound echoed. The blood in the Blood Pool appeared to be boiling, and white eyes emerged from the bottom of the pool. Almost simultaneously, a whirlpool formed in the center of the Blood Pool.
At that moment, the blood in the Blood Pool rapidly receded as if some monster at the bottom was sucking it away!
I noticed that the statue's mouth had somehow opened. A powerful suction force emanated from its mouth, so strong that I could barely keep my balance. My body was being drawn closer to the statue step by step. I thought about investigating further, but with such immense suction, it didn't seem human-made. If I stayed any longer, I would surely get hurt.
With that thought, I exchanged a knowing glance with Xianxian and we ran!
Seeing this situation unfold, we knew it was bad and immediately took off back along our original path. Although the suction was strong and running was exhausting, even when we reached the cave entrance, the suction remained just as fierce—if not stronger. I pulled out my dagger and plunged it into the wall; every step felt like sinking into quicksand.
After much effort, we finally escaped that strange suction force from the Passageway and returned to the barn. Perhaps due to the walls blocking it, the suction here was not as strong. We moved several usable boxes to below the cave entrance; there weren't many, so stacked together they only reached halfway up—but it was enough.
Xianxian took the lead and retreated to a corner of the wall. After a few steps of running start, she kicked off the wall and jumped onto one of the wooden boxes. Crouching slightly, she leaped up completely. I didn't lag behind; just like Xianxian, I used the wall for leverage and jumped onto a box over a meter high, feeling light as a feather as I leaped back onto the original grass.
Xianxian kicked down on a stone slab to cover it and then stepped around to pack down some surrounding dirt until it blended with the environment before we finally left.
The entire Little Yellow Village was eerily quiet—so quiet that it sent chills down my spine.
Not long after we left, we saw a few people gathered by the roadside in a standoff. Before we got closer, a familiar woman ran towards us, while the others looked on with suspicion and then hurried over. "What happened?" Xianxian asked the first to arrive, Snow Princess.
Snow Princess didn't waste any time and said directly, "The police have turned back."
What? I was surprised; I really didn't expect the police to come back. I wondered what they were returning for and whether they would cause us trouble since we had no reason to be there.
"Master Xian, what should we do?" one person asked.
Wang Yi rarely showed a worried expression, patting his bag and saying, "These guys can be easily traced."
Fortunately, they hadn't left behind any firearms or other incriminating items that could raise suspicions. If they had been caught with those, no amount of excuses would help.
"Should we bury it?" someone suggested tentatively.
"Absolutely not!" Dr. Takayoshi quickly rejected the idea, saying, "They will definitely bring police dogs; it could be found. If that happens, everything will be confiscated, and it will all be over."
The group fell silent. I glanced at everyone, thinking that although I had a place to hide firearms, now was not the time to expose them, especially since there were still some who were not on our side.
Xianxian shared this concern and pondered for a moment before saying, "I just discovered a hidden cave with Brother Feng. You all go back and buy us some time; we'll take care of things in East Tibet and then leave."
Everyone exchanged glances as if considering whether to proceed with this plan. Snow Princess snorted coldly and for the first time spoke harshly, "Fairy won't harm you; do as you please. Trust Xian to leave the things behind and hurry to buy him some time." After saying this, she placed her backpack on the ground, gave Xianxian some instructions, and then turned to leave.
Wang Yi and Gao Liang exchanged looks with each other, pretending to be hesitant but not delaying further. They dropped their backpacks and said they would buy us some time before following Snow Princess away.
The remaining people looked sullen, and without saying a word, they put down their backpacks and left.
Xianxian and I exchanged a helpless smile before heading towards the mountain with our backpacks. Once the gazes behind us disappeared, I turned back to take a look. Seeing that everyone had left, I still felt uneasy, so Xianxian and I jumped into the barn one after the other, stowing all our backpacks into The Dead before jumping out and leaving as if nothing had happened.
Sure enough, just after we passed through a small grove, we saw a large group of people coming our way, including many uniformed officers and several plainclothes detectives, along with a few police dogs. Most of our side was present, and one man in police uniform cast a suspicious glance at us before stopping and about to speak when Snow Princess came over. She playfully clung to Xianxian's arm and said, "Where have you been? Why did you come back now? You deserve a spanking!" After saying that, she lightly slapped Xianxian.
Xianxian smiled, not blushing or panting, and replied, "This time, you really can't blame me. Brother Feng and I barely managed to escape. If I had been even a moment later, you wouldn't have seen me again!"
"You're just trying to fool me. With your skills, what could possibly happen?" Snow Princess continued to tease, her gentle face incredibly charming.
"Ahem..." The leading police officer cleared his throat with his fist at his mouth. Only then did Snow Princess realize and cheerfully introduce Xianxian, saying, "Xian, this is Major Ma, who is in charge of the Little Yellow Village Blood Incident."
Xianxian smiled back, "I've heard much about you."
Major Ma returned the courtesy, "You're too kind."
"The young brother mentioned that you two barely escaped. What kind of big trouble did you encounter?" Just as Major Ma finished speaking, an elderly man beside him carrying a briefcase asked.
"Well, it was indeed quite a big deal!" A look of fear flashed across Xianxian's face as she patted her chest in lingering fright. Intentionally teasing the group, she exaggeratedly said, "Can you guess what Brother Feng and I discovered this time?"
