In the inky night, thunder rumbled and lightning flashed, depicting an inescapable fate that caused the entire night to collapse in an instant. The scenery turned pale for a moment, as if the heavens and earth were torn apart, quickly plunging into darkness, with crying ghostly figures having nowhere to escape, their souls stiffened. The vision crumbled delicately, blurred white dots overlapping with massive black shadows, desperately tearing through the night, leaving only the howling wind.
It had been three days since we left Duxiu Villa. We had been exhausted from traveling and seeking without success. From Cui Ming, we learned that we had barely covered half the distance; at this pace, it would take at least another week to reach our destination!
Tonight's storm came so suddenly that we were caught completely off guard, drenched to the bone. A group of nine shivered with purple lips from the cold. Fortunately, Cui Ming was familiar with the mountains and quickly found a cave where we gathered around a fire to dry our clothes.
According to Cui Ming, this cave was likely left over from the Anti-Japanese War; there were many such caves in these mountains. Luckily for us, we found this one; otherwise, with the heavy rain, we would have caught a cold after being soaked for even longer!
The clothes in our packs were also soaked through. In front of so many people, I couldn't reveal the existence of The Dead and could only dry them by the fire.
As for food, we had run out two days ago due to our hurried departure. However, fortunately, Lime and I managed to catch a small wild boar yesterday, which was enough for us to last three or four days.
The aroma of roasted meat wafted through the air; Cui Ming was an excellent cook, and not only did the meat shine with oil, but it also tasted fantastic.
Outside, the wind howled and rain poured; inside the cave was a little world of its own.

Before Lime could respond, Rophie nervously asked, "Besides the wind and rain, is there any other sound, Feng Zi?"
I shook my head and reassured her before walking to the cave entrance. The rain fell heavily, drenching everything continuously; in the distance, everything was blurred by darkness. I stared intently into the distance where several dark figures seemed to be moving. A deafening thunderclap echoed as lightning suddenly struck down, illuminating half of the sky in an instant. I didn’t close my eyes; in that moment, I saw that indeed several dark figures were rushing toward us at high speed!
My heart tightened, unsure whether the newcomer was friend or foe.
Rugged Mountains and Wild Ridges, with thunder and torrential rain, it was a night of darkness and danger!
I had never believed in the inherent goodness of humanity; whether good or evil, there were always bandits lurking in the mountains! Our group of nine included three women, and there was a shadow of at least a dozen people approaching through the rain!
It was impossible to extinguish the fire now, as I knew they were coming towards the light! The target was close, so I quickly alerted everyone to stay vigilant and informed them that a group was heading our way!
"Could they be going to Small Yellow Village like us?" Tong Qi asked.
"Maybe," I replied, keeping my eyes on the newcomers.
"Feng." Someone tugged at my sleeve, and I heard Rophie’s anxious voice beside me.
I smiled slightly at her, holding her icy hand and reassuring her, "Don't be afraid; I'm here." No matter who they were, they wouldn't harm anyone here! I glared sharply at those shadows and felt grateful for the soul within me; without it, I would have been dead long ago. Without it, I wouldn't possess such skills and strength, nor would I have the courage and composure I had now!
At the same time, I was thankful to have met Lime and Xianxian, such strong individuals. Strength begets strength; I no longer considered myself weak. On the contrary, I would use all the power at my disposal to protect those around me! To unravel all unknown mysteries!
Though my hand was tightly held, I had no mood to savor the sweetness in my heart.
In an instant, the shadows were less than five meters away from us. Amidst the lightning, we saw a group of people drenched and in disarray. "Just borrowing this place to escape the rain!" One shouted as they rushed towards us without waiting for a response. We were forced to split into two sides as they charged into the cave.
"Damn it, how can this rain just come out of nowhere!" A rough voice exclaimed as he threw down his backpack and began cursing. I frowned; that voice sounded somewhat familiar!
"Who are you?" Tong Qi asked warily while protecting Xiao Xiao.
There were twelve newcomers who instantly filled the cave. Since their backs were turned to us, we couldn't see their faces, but judging by their figures and styles, there was only one woman among them.
"Ahem, we arrived just in time without introducing ourselves." One person stepped out from the crowd. His thick short hair was soaked by the rain, revealing a shiny bald head. A black diamond earring sparkled in his ear, and his sharp phoenix eyes were dark as ink. The corner of his mouth curled into a smile that seemed both inviting and mocking. Even drenched and disheveled, he exuded an extraordinary demeanor that suggested he had received excellent upbringing; every movement was sharp yet cold.
"This Lord is... oh dear, Little Phoenix!" The newcomer’s eyes lit up as he jumped in front of me. In an instant, his composed image shattered completely.
I rubbed my forehead, really not wanting to admit that I knew this person!
"Where have you been for the past three months? You didn't even reply to a single message!" I asked angrily.
"Hehe, I changed my phone, so I forgot your number. Come on, don't get physical; my subordinates are watching. Can you give me some face?" Xianxian jumped behind Lime.
I withdrew my hand. This guy didn't even say a word when he showed up, making me worry for nothing.
"Fairy, why don't you introduce your friend?" At that moment, a tall woman stepped out from the group. Her thick curly hair cascaded down to her waist, her figure was curvaceous, and her delicate features were complemented by a beautiful smile that exuded captivating allure with every gesture.
Xianxian stepped out from behind Lime, adjusted his clothes, and once again resumed his gentlemanly demeanor. "Is there any need for an introduction? You already know who you should know." Rolling his eyes, Xianxian spoke dismissively to the newcomer.
"Brother Feng, it's good to see you again, haha." Another burly man walked out from the back. His voice was clearly the same as the first speaker's. I glanced up and immediately recognized him; it was Wang Yi, one of Xianxian's associates. We had gotten along well during our time at the Impossible Staircase and had shared some life-and-death experiences together.
Two more people followed Wang Yi out, both of whom I recognized: Doctor Gao Liang and Zhao Yang, who wore glasses. The others were unfamiliar faces.
"Little Phoenix, Lime, let me introduce you." Xianxian pulled over the beautiful woman with a proud smile and said, "This is my lover, Snow Princess. What do you think? Isn't she beautiful?"
After saying that, he stared at my hand and then slowly shifted his gaze to Rophie, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Little Phoenix, who is this beautiful lady next to you? You move pretty fast!"
