The Fat Boss squinted his eyes and took a closer look. First, he seemed puzzled, then he simply cupped the item in his palm and brought it closer to his eyes. After examining it, he was taken aback and immediately handed the Glowing Pearl to me. I thought he wouldn’t accept it, and just as I was about to speak, I saw him hurriedly walk to the door and close it, turn on the light, and come back to me with an excited expression, asking, “May I ask if this item is Living Play?”
Living Play refers to newly unearthed artifacts, a term used in the Tomb Raiding community. Fortunately, I had prepared by studying online beforehand, so I only paused for a moment before responding. Seeing the gleam in Fat Boss's eyes, I merely smiled lightly and pretended not to understand, saying, “This is just a pearl I found while climbing; it’s not some Living Play.”
Fat Boss scrutinized me carefully, his small eyes sparkling as if trying to determine whether I was lying. I didn’t know the identity of this Boss, so it was better not to reveal my Tomb Raiding background too easily; otherwise, being discovered could lead to serious consequences!
I looked at him calmly. When he remained silent, I reluctantly said, “It’s fine if you don’t want it. I just came by to take a look; if I can sell it, great—just trying to make a little money.”
With that, Fat Boss grinned widely and suddenly said generously, “Of course I’ll take it! Such a good item is worth having. However, please wait a moment; I need to make a phone call. I'm just an agent for purchases!” After saying that, he gestured for me to sit down.
“Alright, thank you, Boss.” I expressed my gratitude. Indeed, one shouldn’t judge a book by its cover; at first glance, this Fat Boss seemed amiable and straightforward, but the shrewdness in his eyes told me he was no ordinary person!
Before long—just two or three minutes later—Fat Boss emerged from the inner room with a beaming smile on his face. “I haven’t introduced myself yet! My surname is Jin; I've been in this business for over thirty years. If you have any good items in the future, feel free to come find me—I’ll definitely give you the best price.”
Looking into Boss Jin’s keen eyes, I realized he had already sensed something. Without confirming or denying anything, I nodded and said, “Boss Jin, my surname is Feng; just call me Mr. Feng.”
“Good! Mr. Feng, let’s get straight to the point: how much do you want for it?” Boss Jin smiled slightly.
As for the price, I had checked online before; a single Glowing Pearl could range from five hundred thousand to several million. The one in my hand was quite small, so its price should be lower. But then again, this was a natural Glowing Pearl, an ancient artifact! So I raised my hand and gestured nine with my fingers to indicate nine hundred thousand.
Boss Jin grinned and shook his index finger. Thinking that I had quoted too high, I was surprised when he said: “I’ll offer you one million. Would you prefer a bank transfer or cash?”
One million! This tiny pearl was actually worth that much! Wow! Finally not broke anymore! It seems that Boss Jin knows how to do business as well. “Thank you for your kind offer, Boss Jin!
"Ha ha, in business, you have to make your customers happy," Boss Jin said with a warm smile, looking completely different from the sharp-eyed person I had seen earlier. He cheerfully asked me, "Feng, do you have any good goods?"
Are you so sure that I have good goods? I teased as I looked at the amiable old man across from me. After a moment of thought, I took out a piece of light green beast jade. During these few days, money was being poured into The Dead without restraint. No matter how much I spent, I didn’t feel distressed about it—not because I had plenty of money but because my life was the most important thing! Having crawled back from the brink of death, I understood what truly mattered. Money would eventually come back; life only comes once.
With everything prepared, I found myself at a loss for what to do next. My injuries had healed well, but now I didn’t know where to go.
After three busy days, I wandered aimlessly and unexpectedly found myself at my school. Looking at the familiar yet strange university, it felt as if I had returned two years back to that innocent time. Although I had only attended this university for a year, many friends were there with me—we had gone from middle school to high school together and finally entered university together. It had only been a little over two years since we parted ways, yet everything felt so different now.
At least, I could no longer go back.
Watching the students come and go made me feel out of place! Shaking my head, I turned back; instead of wasting time wandering around aimlessly, it would be better to return and learn a few tricks from Lime.
"Feng Zi, is that you?" Just as I turned around, a pleasant voice called out from behind me.
I turned around and saw a person with jet black, thick long hair casually draped over her shoulders, the ends slightly curled. Her large eyes sparkled with life, and her unadorned face was quite delicate and beautiful. Looking at her outfit, she wore a lightweight plaid top paired with cropped pants, perfectly showcasing her leg contours. She appeared confident and elegant, and the rich mix of styles perfectly highlighted her gentle temperament.
"Rophie, long time no see." After a moment of surprise, I smiled at her. Rophie and I were high school classmates; she had a good personality, was cheerful and generous, and was quite beautiful—she had once been my goddess. But now, seeing that she hadn’t changed much since I left, I suddenly felt how childish my past behavior had been.
"Hey, Faye! Which handsome guy have you met this time? Hurry up and introduce us!" A somewhat familiar female voice came from behind me. I turned around consciously to see a girl with fluffy short hair and an oval face adorned with a mischievous smile. She wore ankle-length jeans paired with a black jacket, exuding a completely different sense of androgynous beauty compared to Rophie. Beside her stood a boy slightly taller than me, dressed in trendy attire. Ah, familiar faces indeed.
"Xiao Xiao, Tongqi, long time no see." I greeted them with a smile as well.
"Feng Zi!" Xiao Xiao pointed at me in disbelief after looking for a while. Tongqi was surprised for a moment before excitedly coming over to put his arm around my shoulder. "Bro, you haven't come back to see us in so many years! Have you forgotten about us?"
I chuckled awkwardly and quickly denied it. "How could that be? I've just been busy lately and didn't get the chance to tell you guys." They probably didn’t know about my family situation, so it was better that way.
The four of us found a café and reminisced for a while. Xiao Xiao excitedly said to me, "Feng Zi, we’re going hiking in a few days; you should come with us!"
"Hiking? Where to?" I was thinking about how to decline when Tongqi said, "We're planning to climb Nanyue Hengshan. I heard there’s a Ghost Valley there; haha, this time we’ll go see what ghosts look like!"
Oh, they want to see ghosts! Let’s see if they can still laugh after encountering one. I suppressed the urge to tease him and heard Rophie chime in, "Yeah, are you going with us?"
Looking into Rophie's beautiful eyes, I couldn't help but nod. After all, there were no leads at the moment; it might be better to go with them. Stubbornly searching for clues might not yield results anyway; relaxing might lead to unexpected discoveries.
However, none of us anticipated that this trip would yield such strange outcomes...
