Xianxian was not the only one being pulled; Dabao had great strength, and I felt as if my feet were weighed down by a thousand pounds. During the climb, I relied heavily on strong willpower and instinct. Now that Dabao had appeared, I had already lost the strength to resist, so it was better to let one die than to let two die. With that thought, I prepared to unload The Dead onto Xianxian, but just then, my left hand was grabbed by someone, and I saw Lime's face. He glanced down at me and coldly said, "Are you really going to give up?"
No, I don't want to!
With the pulling force from both Lime and Xianxian, we were stuck in mid-air. Once I calmed down, I looked down at Dabao and said, "I can help you now, really."
Dabao remained silent, still glaring at me with hatred, a low growl escaping his throat like that of a beast.
"I mean Fengfeng, it can't be your precious brother again!" Xianxian said in exasperation.
I suddenly found it ironic but nodded anyway. Thinking that Xianxian probably couldn't see me, I said, "It's Dabao."
"Calm down and get him inside first," Lime instructed.
"Okay." To be honest, seeing Dabao like this made him seem possessed and completely uncommunicative. However, capturing a ghost for the first time was indeed quite challenging. After several unsuccessful attempts, the weight on my feet only grew heavier.
"To capture a ghost, you must act without hesitation and believe you can!" Lemon reminded me.
I nodded; my feet felt lighter. I knew that Dabao had been captured. I understood that The Dead could capture ghosts; I just hesitated at the thought of whether capturing Dabao would mean he would directly go over there...
A hand patted my shoulder; it was Xianxian, gritting his teeth as he urged, "What are you waiting for? Hurry up and go!"
After this brief interlude, we finally climbed up. As soon as I reached the top, I collapsed onto the ground, gasping for breath. After resting for a while, I finally had the energy to survey my surroundings. First of all, this place was still shrouded in darkness; the only light source was the wolf-eye flashlight in Lemon's hand. Below us were the black hands we had used to climb up, and above us—above us was a bare wall!
We were merely in a "fault"! It resembled the middle part of a half "凸" character.
I know that being able to climb up here is a stroke of luck amidst misfortune. Most people would run far away upon seeing the wall covered with Ghost Hands, but only someone like Lemon would have the audacity to use the Ghost Hands to climb up. Now, the situation is such that we are at a dead end in front and behind us, leaving us with no choice but to search for an escape to the left or right.
After replenishing some food and water, the three of us decided to head left. It is said that the Ancients hold the left in high regard, so hopefully we can find a way out that way!
With our direction set, we began our long journey.
As I walked, I sensed the movements within The Dead. Dabao started screaming wildly as soon as he entered. I called out to him several times, but it seemed he couldn't hear me, remaining as sensitive as a wild beast. I could only watch anxiously from the side.
Once he had vented enough, he finally began to calm down, and I tried calling out to him again.
I thought he would ignore me once more, but to my surprise, he slowly lifted his head and murmured blankly, "Mad Zi?"
Seeing that Dabao was a bit more alert, I quickly replied, "It's me. How are you feeling now?"
Dabao shook his head to indicate he was fine and weakly asked, "Why can't I see you?"
"I can't explain that right now. Do you remember what happened earlier?" I tried to ask.
"What happened?" Dabao remained seated on the ground, speaking in confusion. "It feels like I've been walking for a very long time." After a pause, he tiredly added, "I... I didn't want to leave you behind."
"It's all in the past; I'm fine, aren't I?" It seemed Dabao didn't remember what had just happened. I thought back to how abnormal he looked at that moment and realized I almost fell due to guilt... Shaking my head, I hesitantly asked, "Dabao, do you remember how you came down?"
Dabao shook his head and fell silent...
I didn't disturb him further and began to think seriously. First of all, the manpower and resources used by the Demon Clan to build this Underworld must have been top-notch; it would be impossible to construct something this large without any supports or passages. Since that's the case, there must be hidden paths or some traces left behind. I refuse to believe they could destroy everything completely without leaving a single trace!
“Shh—” Lime suddenly stopped, signaling us to be quiet. My Heart skipped a beat, wondering if he had found a way out, only to see Lemon pressing his ear against the wall, listening intently. Xianxian and I quickly followed suit, putting our ears to the wall.
At first, I couldn't hear anything, but gradually, I seemed to catch the sound of something scraping, like nails against the wall or something hard being scratched. The sound that reached us was already very faint, so it wasn't jarring, but it pierced my heart!
“Is someone on the other side?” I whispered.
“How do you know it's a person?” Xianxian replied softly.
“We need to get out of here quickly, now!” Lime suddenly said. He didn't seem like the type to joke around, so at his command, the three of us mustered all our strength and ran forward.
As we ran, I heard Xianxian ask from behind, “What did you hear?”
Lime answered without hesitation, “The sound is getting closer; they’ll be through soon.”
My heart sank. Did Lemon mean that the sound I heard was something digging through the wall? “What are they?” I quickly asked.
“Definitely not humans,” Lemon said with certainty.
I was immediately at a loss for words. Not knowing for sure left me uneasy, but thinking about what I might find out made me even more anxious. Indeed, sometimes it’s better not to know!
“Have you found a way out? How long do we have to run?” Xianxian asked.
“Given the situation, we can't just break a Tomb Hole anymore…” I said nervously. I had planned to break a Tomb Hole if we couldn't find an exit, but now that something was coming through the wall, that plan was completely ruined.
Sure enough, as soon as I said that, Xianxian laughed at me. “Unless you want to die faster.”
The sound of digging grew closer, and my heart raced faster. I quickly said to Xianxian, "Don't you have a flashlight? Hurry and turn it on."
"There's only one left. Are you sure you want to use it now?" Xianxian replied anxiously.
"Of course! If we don't use it now, when will we?" I said immediately.
A few seconds later, a beam of light appeared behind us. I quickly took it and handed it to Lime. With an additional light source, the surroundings became a bit clearer. In the quiet abyss, I could only hear the chaotic footsteps of the three of us and the faint sound of digging.
With a thud, it seemed something broke through the ground! I didn't turn back to look; instead, I focused even harder on the front, scanning for any possible escape route. The sounds of breaking ground grew louder and closer. Silently, we three shared an unspoken understanding and didn't say a word. I felt as if my feet were moving faster.
After running for a while, Xianxian suddenly said, "They're catching up! I'm going to stop and block them for a moment..."
"No way!" I quickly rejected.
"Why?" Xianxian asked hesitantly.
"Because!" My heart leaped with joy as I exclaimed, "Because I see the exit!"
"What? There's an exit? Fengfeng, you know you can't let me go to my death..." Xianxian clearly didn't grasp the situation and thought I was trying to comfort him, so he started rambling behind me.
"Shut up!" I decisively interrupted him and said firmly, "I see it right ahead; just push a little harder and we'll make it."
